She loves to see it. She adores seeing this. Let them fight over an alliance, and the benefits of using a weaker Pokémon become clear.
They underestimate her Mudkip. Shamus would turn on her first chance he gets, and Nero is trying his darnest to keep an alliance from forming. Which means they’re preoccupied with each other. Which gives her a chance to strike.
“Sorry boys. I know I’m popular, but I’m not falling for any of this! Another Whirlpool, right in between them!”
This time Mudkip forms a Whirlpool of pure water- but with a twist. As it is aimed for the space in between the two opposing Pokémon, the water of the Whirlpool absorbs the light and power from the Morning Sun Dazzling Gleam combination, reflecting it around the pit and hopefully harming both opponents.
Nero was using Togekiss to target Incineroar. Whoops, looks like he triggered the host, in a trolling contest. Is that a bonus? He thought. Hopefully, worry about that later.
The attack missed! Incineroar dodged it!
Shamus knew Nero would be looking at him when his attack failed, so the fire trainer pointed over to the host and laughed.
However, that wouldn’t last long because not only did Diantha reject the alliance proposal, but she had her eyes set on both their Pokemon! The dazzling gleam was reflected right back. Unfortunately for Shamus, luck wasn’t going to be on his side twice and the move struck the fire tiger and knocked him down into the mud.
Shamus glared, now turning his attention to Diantha.
“You’ll regret this! You should’ve accepted my alliance! Hope you enjoy becoming the target! Incineroar, change of plans! Focus on Mudkip! Time for our ultimate Fire Warrior move! Flare Blitz!”
Fire engulfed Incineroar and the fire tiger leaped high up and then dove down at fast speeds down at Mudkip!
While the attack was in progress, Shamus turned to Nero.
“I know we had our differences in the past round, but since she obviously thinks she’s too cool for us, how about we form an alliance instead?”
Of course Shamus just wants an alliance to stop the water attacks from the Mudkip from affecting his Incineroar. Once again, he has no second thoughts about betraying the alliance on his final turn should Nero accept the offer, but just one round not being the focus was all he needs.
fuck this. FUCK THIS. first his most badass move gets dodged and reflected in such a shitty, sparkly way, and now the guy who laughed at him when he dodged it is trying to make an alliance?
he balls a fist and turns his attention back to the field, watching as flare blitz plows straight ahead at mudkip.
“couldn’t have gone for darkest lariat? why would i be allies with someone who uses a fire move on a water pokémon?” he says snarkily as the move travels to connect, but he’s focused on something else entirely.
wait for it…wait for it……
“now! grass knot and dazzling gleam!”
almost as soon as flare blitz either hits (or doesn’t), togekiss flaps its great white wings. there’s a bloodred flash designed to hit both opponents and distract from what’s coming next–and then great VENUS FLYTRAPS with sharp teeth shoot out from underneath incineroar’s and mudkip’s feet, growing to massive size by togekiss’ command and by the richness of the soil underneath, each one stained a sickly shade of brown and crimson.
