“blue??” sounds her inquisitive echo, dark eyes averting thoughtfully while lashes bat in that same manner. all her life, she’d only done natural colors - the safe ones; brown, black, and she was blonde once - but never something adventurous like blue. though a cautious person, darae would be a boldfaced liar if she ever once claimed not to be attracted to adventure. she tries to envision herself with blue strands atop her head … and it actually doesn’t look bad. a nice, dark blue - but no too dark so that it cannot be recognized in its true hue.
“where’s this idea coming from??” she asks, head tilting curiously. she had been thinking of dyeing her hair for a comeback down the road, but she hadn’t thought of blue. now, she can’t get it out of her head. her juniors always seemed to push her toward new ideas and experiences that she would otherwise overlook completely, she notes - an aspect of her life for which she is grateful. she may not be the most open person, but those she does trust are always valued in what they suggest.
sitting back in her chair, she can’t help but chuckle at herself. she felt almost as though the younger woman had just planted a seedling in her mind, and soon it’ll grow to be a massive tree - with blue-toned leaves. of course.
“i guess i’ve never really thought of doing anything outside of - you know, the ‘normal’ colors.”

what had began as a joke has apparently become a concrete desire of jaena’s. darae had never imagined she’d hear the young rapper actually come and ask to learn the snippet of choreography from a song she had released ages ago. the move had become somewhat ‘iconic’, but nothing of a dance craze - mostly because it’s so difficult to do.
a tiny smile forms on the otherwise stoic woman’s features; her entire face engaged in the subtle expression as even her become crescent-like. something about this is enough to make her feel special. despite the years of fame, and all of the experience that had come with it, darae had never gotten used to someone genuinely admiring her. it felt like a dream every time she stood before thousands of cheering fans. part of her still believes that it is, and while life has given her plenty of downs, the ups make it worth persevering. moments like these, though jaena probably thought it to be nothing, remind her just why she is still here, still fighting.
“you want to learn it, huh?? after all this time ...” she fronts as though she really has to think about it - like an old witch pondering whether she should teach her signature spell to her young apprentice. but the answer is already decided in her mind, and in one fluid gesture, she gives a simple nod, her earnest little smile becoming something of a smirk. she’s already getting into the skin of her stage persona.
“alright, i’ll teach you. but this stays between you and me - it’ll be our secret.”

ever since sunwoo had become a trainee, darae had some kind of hunch that he had been a fan of hers. to think about it made her feel conceited, almost - but the signs were all there; it took him almost two weeks to be able to talk to her without stuttering through his sentences and even longer than that to be able to be in her presence without visibly creating a new layer of skin made entirely of his sweat. at first, she thought he was just going through the trainee jitters and starstruck by all of his sunbaes - but this sort of behavior seems to have lasted longer and more intensely when it came to her. and the thought of this makes her feel very soft - honored to have a special place in his heart.
it just goes to show that some things really never change entirely.
she’d been coming casually and mindlessly down the hallway, a squeezable bottle of water in her left hand and her phone in her right. initially, she hadn’t even noticed sunwoo ( despite his being a giant compared to her ) as she made her way toward the main exit of headquarters - but he catches the corner of her vision, and she finds herself stopping to offer him a smile. it would be entirely rude to notice him and just walk by without so much an acknowledgement of his presence, but since it’s sunwoo and she has a soft spot for him, she figures her time would be better spent in his company, at least for a few minutes, instead of running out the door to go home and lie down for the rest of the day.
as she approaches, he says something that at first, she doesn’t quite understand. there seems to be some english tucked into his sentence, and while she speaks said language impressively well, he’d spoken far too quickly for her to grasp what he’d said to her - no matter what language he’s speaking. eventually though, she pauses - thinking she has something as she mentally backtracks, and then glances down at the object in her non-dominant hand.

she looks at him dumbly for a moment, her naturally sleepy-looking eyes paired with her slightly downturned lips may have intimidated him enough to speak again, trying to undo whatever the effect of his words had been - but darae isn’t upset or unimpressed at all. just taken off guard - surprised, is all she is.
eventually, she shakes her head, her eyes closing and a tight smile forming on her face as she tries to suppress her laughter - though she still ends up giggling just a little, out loud.
“that was funny.”

sukja isn’t that tall. in fact, she’s closer to the shorter side - though she is taller than darae herself, that isn’t exactly hard to achieve. still, the smaller woman holds on tightly, too tightly, apparently, to her longtime friend as she’s carried to her own apartment. this is already embarrassing enough for her, having hurt herself while dancing - despite poking at her own age all the time, she really isn’t old at all - nowhere near old enough to be getting minor injuries doing what’s long since been routine.
granted, it’s just a sprain. she’ll be fine tomorrow if she relaxes the rest of the day and keeps it on ice ( which, if left to her own devices, she most likely will not - a fact of which both women are well aware. ) she just wishes her former groupmate hadn’t been there while it happened. the strong and graceful glides across the floor and brief leaps above the ground, the moment’s distraction, and the wrong landing. if her short yelp hadn’t been what caused the younger woman to spring into action, it had to have been the way her legs gave out and she barely caught herself with her arms before her face collided with the wooden floor.
she may be a renowned dancer, but she still has her moments. a woman as troubled as she, it may not come as a true surprise, once it’s really thought about. and sukja is one of the few people in her life that knows the details - knows what she’s gone through - what she goes through, still.
despite her protests and pleas ( and the frequent ‘i’m fine’s ), the rapper had scooped the vocalist up and sees to it now that she gets home safely. knowing sukja, she won’t stop there, either. it is ironic, though - darae does her best to take care of everyone she cares for, yet expects no one to care for her.
“i just don’t want you to drop me,” huffs darae, though her grasp does let up, “or to fall. being off the ground makes me nervous.”

“pageants??” she echoes, eyebrows arching and dragging up lazy eyelids with them. she had just entered the practice room, duffel bag suspended along the curve of her slender shoulder as her hand grasps the thick anse, ready to lift it from its place so she could access the contents. but as jumin addresses her, she stops mid-motion. what a bizarre thing to say - it catches her off guard, hence why she’s frozen for a solid few seconds.
had he said something prior that she’d missed while going over her routine in her mind? it’s likely - she may be a woman, but multitasking isn’t always her metier, as per the legend ( probably devised by men ) so claims. at any rate, the petite female drops her bag to the finished wooden floor and nears him, placing a mild hand to his forehead; testing for warmth. “hoobae, are you okay?? i’d expect random babbling from your groupmates, but not you -” though there lies some affectionate teasing in that jab at his members, the concern defining her countenance does not falter.

the older woman’s eyes narrow - the telltale sign that her ‘opposition’ is in the right, especially in this instance. she had tendencies to be brash and impulsive; and when the other highlights her momentary hastiness to jump to a faulty conclusion, she can’t stop herself from being flustered.
to hell if she’s going to look like she is, though.
“is that any way to talk to your unnie?” she diverts, fingertips brushing wisps of dark fringe away from her forehead, “you’re right, but still. i don’t like throwing too many things away. i mean, yeah it gets kind of cluttered, but it’s worth something. maybe not a kitten, but even then … i think this should stay. the place is hygienically clean so what does it matter if there’s stuff everywhere? it’s just me who lives here, anyway.”
as she’s speaking, she gracefully maneuvers through her living room - or, what’s left of it. there are boxes of books, clothes, even stuffed animals that darae had held onto for far too long, but had not the heart to throw out. besides, it keeps her company, in spite of its inanimation. it’s comforting.
“see? i get around fine. no problems here. no reason to get rid of anything.”

“why are you doing this to me??” she asks dramatically, rolling her eyes at her junior prior to thin arms crossing over her breast. “you know this old woman is indecisive. or at least, you should know by now, right?”
truthfully, darae detests hypothetical reasoning … there always appeared to be something hiding in the shadows that she had not the energy nor the will to uncover - for it was more often than it was not something she wished not to engage with any of her senses.
but she knows the probability of eugene trying to toy with her is very low - near to naught, in fact. thus, she lets her unconditional defenses fall back, her sharp and angular features appearing far softer than ever they did naturally as chocolate-hued irises again settle on her labelmate’s visage.
“between having bad hair for the rest of my life or having nothing but hideous clothes, huh?? you always were the most shallow genesis member,” she jokes, shoving his arm, “but if i had to pick, i’d go with the hair. if you’re wearing nice enough clothes, no one but your enemies will remember how bad your hair looks. and their opinions don’t matter, anyway.”
