The scales

How selfish have I been not to have noticed it all happening. I was more concerned with dealing with my own demons. I should have protected you. My heart is hurting because I know you are too. I just wish I knew about this sooner, so I could have told you how it was all lies. You’re beautiful just the way you are. 

And the other thing, I would have encouraged the distance. I had a gut instinct but, surely it couldn’t be true? Maybe it still isn’t true, but the events you recalled does make the situation seem a tad bit odd. Maybe she isn’t all that she makes out to be.

I know you won’t be reading this, but I’ll remind you it everyday. You’re one of the most smartest, funniest, most loyal, honest, brave, driven and most beautiful person I know, inside and out. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. You’re worth more than the numbers on the scale and your dress. Don’t forget that. 

I know I can’t fight your demons for you, but I will hold your hands through this. And know this, you’re not going to face it alone.

My therapist and I decided that from now on, when I’m thinking something negative about myself, I’m going to imagine that Donald Trump is saying it, because it’s really easy for me to just tell him to fuck off.
