Getting a bit crowded in here...
... or why it isn't a good idea to browse ebay after midnight (see picture)
So all of a sudden I have become a Seth MacFarlane fan. I'm not sure what really happened except that his acting in Orville episode 2x04 literally blew me away and so for the past week I have been sitting here, browsing youtube until (very!) late at night watching interviews and concerts. I already did a bit of that last year when I watched the first season of "The Orville", but then the 12 episodes were over and I kinda forgot about him. Shame over me. Now Orville is back and so am I.
Before the Orville, I literally had not ever heard of him. I knew that I did not like "Family Guy" and never bothered to learn the name of the man behind the scenes. At first I was very wary to try the Orville for that reason, thinking it would be more of the same. Then I ended up falling in love with it very quickly.
I am pretty sure I watched the Oscars he hosted in 2013 as I watch them every year and from the clips I could still find I am also pretty sure I liked all the old fashioned Broadway singing and dancing bits but again the name never registered with me. I am living behind the moon with such things. Plus "Family Guy" is dubbed in Germany anyway so I would not even know his voices.
But the real swooning for me always starts when someone sings. Happened with John Barrowman, happened with Hugh Jackman, and here is Seth, doing Frank Sinatra songs with a big orchestra. Having even learnt from the same trainers that trained Frank. What's not to like? It's just amazing how one guy can have two so different sides in him. And he plays the piano too, there are some clips on his Instagram. I did not stand a chance. Plus he's born in the same October 1973 like me, just a few days after me! It's fate I tell you!
I don't even know which songs to recommend as I love them all so here is just one of many. Search for more on your own risk. Don't say I haven't warned you.
Apparently that was a BBC proms concert in Royal Albert Hall in 2015 (the year I went to the UK for the John Barrowman tour. Looks like I missed another great gig but there is a DVD from this evening which I plan to get): Come fly with me
There are also four CDs which I need to get yet. Looks like he chooses songs that are not too well known, there are some new for me to discover.
I have ALWAYS loved Frank Sinatra. When I say always I mean past 1989 of course when I was introduced to him. But even before I have always loved musical showtunes, just did not know where they were from as in our East German TV shows they added new German lyrics to the original songs. But I loved the big orchestra and stage and stairs that lit up when the singer came down and the big ballett scenes. So for me it's always nice when someone else shares this love and brings back a bit from the good old times. It's like ten years ago when I discovered John for the first time. So much to catch up with and trying to do all at once.
And like John Seth is always so positive and beaming and smiling and charming in the interviews. Well-spoken too.
After the Larry King interview I even went and got the two "Ted" movies from the library. First time I heard of that was when John sang the "Everybody needs a best friend" in panto and I loved the song instantly (it has a very classic Broadway feel to it) but never watched the movie as I thought it might not be for me from the description. Turns out I rather liked them. Yes there are crude jokes but underneath is a very nice story and I did care about the characters and was amazed how much emotion Seth put into this little teddy bear. I've certainly seen worse movies.
Yes I know I’m late but here I am, not really knowing what to do with myself. Exciting times. Anyone else?
