When a Christian foundation interviewed college nonbelievers about how and why they left religion, surprising themes emerged.

"I am on a mission to show you from Scripture that if all you have is a decision for Christ and no delight in Christ, you don't have Christ. We are not saved by mere decisions. We are saved by the sovereign work of God by His Spirit causing us to be born again, which brings into being a new creature who has new affections for God and less affection for the world. That's salvation. Salvation is not my brain doing what it can do by itself. My salvation is a miracle wrought by the Holy Spirit upon me doing what I cannot do for myself bringing into being a new John Piper who has affections for God and is falling out of love with the world. So I'm not bringing you a message of happiness as the icing on the cake of decision. But rather I want to persuade you that if you understood saving faith aright, then delight in God would be a part of the cake, not just the icing, not the caboose at the end of the train and not just something dispensable for stoical personalities"

The Power of Words
The Great Sea Serpent. Â As depicted in the Natural History of Norway, so it must be real! Right?Â
Ok, maybe 1755 was a bit before peer reviewâŚ
You have to completely lose yourself in something, even if you have to lose yourself in something else 45 minutes later. If you try to multitask in the classic sense of doing two things at once, what you end up doing is quasi-tasking. Itâs like being with children. You have to give it your full attention for however much time you have, and then you have to give something else your full attention. The secret to multitasking is that it isnât actually multitasking. Itâs just extreme focus and organization
Joss Whedon, who recently shared his life-wisdom with graduating seniors, joins in the effort to debunk the myth of multitasking.
Losing yourself is, of course, a function of having found your purpose and engaging in fulfilling work.

âI got a fan letter from a young lady. It was a suicide note.
So I called her, and I said, âHey, this is Jimmy Doohan. Scotty, from Star Trek.â I said, âIâm doing a convention in Indianapolis. I wanna see you there.â
I saw her â boy, Iâm telling you, I couldnât believe what I saw. It was definitely suicide. Somebody had to help her, somehow. And obviously she wasnât going to the right people.
I said to her, âIâm doing a convention two weeks from now in St. Louis.â And two weeks from then, in somewhere else, you know? She also came to New York - she was able to afford to got to these places. That went on for two or three years, maybe eighteen times. And all I did was talk positive things to her.
And then all of the sudden â nothing. I didnât hear anything. I had no idea what had happened to her because I never really saved her address.
Eight years later, I get a letter saying, âI do want to thank you so much for what you did for me, because I just got my Masterâs degree in electronic engineering.â
ThatâsâŚto me, the best thing Iâve ever done in my life.â
You donât have to be famous to save someone. Maybe you just need to invite them out a few times.
I saw this interview and it was absolutely heart wrenching.
not my dream house but i'd love to visit and take a look around. there's something just fantastical about this. there must be a beautiful library lurking there somewhere.
