Mere seconds pass before Allen's eyes flutter shut and he falls into what Link can only assume to be a blissfully dreamless sleep. As per usual, the Inspector does not remain idle for long. For the time, he occupies himself with peeling the damp cloth draped over Allen's forehead off, subsequently flipping it over to the cooler side.
Link would be lying if he said he completely understood the exorcist's reasoning behind having him stay at his side as he slept-- after all, Link could be putting pen to paper, finishing reports, filing papers-- but as quickly as the thought had come, the Inspector shook the urge away. He had given him his word that he would stay with him, and he intended on keeping that promise.
In a moment of weakness, Link allows himself to sneak a glance at the other as he slept. He had witnessed the sight many times before-- but never had his sleep seemed so peaceful, so natural. The pure, unfiltered vulnerability in his expression succeeded in giving the exorcist much softer, younger features. For once, he actually looked his age.
Subtly, a soft smile lifts at corners of Link’s lips, followed by a slight wave of heat that stems from his neck and rises to the rest of his face. He was glad that Allen had finally received the rest he deserved.
He's not exactly sure what it is that hits him in that moment-- maybe it's the rhythmic rise and fall of Allen's chest that has his vision blurring and his eyelids attempting to force themselves shut. Before he has a chance to stop himself, Links body begins to sway, and with a muffled plunk, the Inspector's head dips down into the sleeping exorcists lap.
Link was in heaven-- he was sure of it. Warmth kissed his forehead. His shoulders felt unbelievably relaxed, as though all the tension had been drained from his body. What was more, his mind was quiet-- calm, even, quelled of any and all worries and concerns.
His brow quirks as a sound reaches his ears, but it's too far, too distant for him to abandon the comfort of sleep. Instead, he rubs his cheek on what he assumes to be a pillow and mumbles something incoherent in response.
