Cyber Bullying

I know the semester is almost over, but I came across this while researching for my final paper. It makes me wonder how much of cyber bullying or trolling is one-sided.

I know the topic is old but I still found what she said to be 100% true.
If Lanier says that everything we do is just recycled and not new then he is technically contradicting himself. By definition, something new was made because it wasn't there before even if it was partially the same as something else. Right?
What a wonderful article! This demonstrates how hard it is to control our privacy on FB.
This is a great report on how Twitter's trending topics work. It reminds us about the power of the algorithms of SNS' and how they filter information.
After viewing this page I was struck by the power of the internet. Although telepresence debatably makes our life less personal, a few of these photos brought me to tears, making me realize hat there is some value of the connectivity through the internet. Without the internet, I never would have seen these photos, and these events would stay just a news article. Although it is strange to connect with people I don't even know, and to feel emotions for something I cannot even begin to relate to, it is still incredibly powerful.
In addition, number 38 is relevant and shows the spread of technology throughout the world in places we would not expect it.

The social network has been adding functions to make it more useful, although many on the site are unaware of them.

How Twitter took over the life of one middle-aged convert. This is an interesting example of the Net problems of the middle-aged and an example of how the technology can dominate the user. It's the hive mind/crowd in action.

Companies like Google, Facebook and Twitter could be major players in an increasingly vital debate over how people represent and reveal themselves on the Web.
Do you think the government would act differently if the Internet didn't exist? How so? Do you think they have structured some of their actions based on the influence of the Net? Or has the Internet not been a threat to them?
Absolutely governments of the world would act differently absent the internet. The internet has changed the operations of national and international politics. For example, here's an article from "On the Media," about a public program to monitor the mood of the world. We should be careful observers of exactly how governments and governmental institutions react to and use the Net.
Online dating profiles show how attraction, trust and deception play into the quest for romance.
