"Hi Professor! I don't really know if any of my Pokemon can Mega evolve, but I'd be willing to help! I have a Scyther, a Skarmory, and a Beautifly."
Hemlock nodded along, searching through her stones before pulling one out. “Currently, I’m afraid not--however, if I also give you this,” she said, pulling out a Metal Coat, “and you let Scyther keep hold of it for a bit, that problem should be solved. Only if that’s what you want, of course,” she added, passing Izumi a Scizorite.
A research project, that was all. Monkshood Haven, home to the mysteries and secrets of Digitalis, where was studied the legends of the two moon pokemon and the mysteriously unnamed third entity. The new moon, the full moon, and the space between them.
Pouring over the ancient documents, Aster took notes in his journal on the rituals and legends involved in the story. Cresselia and Darkrai could both be summoned using similar rituals at the temple in the middle of the lake using differing artifacts, both of which were housed in Monkshood.
Aster had been given special permission by the town as well as Professor Hemlock, and even the Champion himself to investigate these legends and see if they might be of aid in preventing whatever calamity might be coming at the hands of the sinister Team Eclipse. At the very least, he had to be sure they were still there.
Following the events at Mayapple, Aster had been found hiding in the back, the whole thing blowing over for him as being assumed to have been frightened. He was holding several rare megastones, which he claimed to have grabbed instinctively as everything began to fall apart. He even had a couple of keystones with him.
Now, in the absence of the moon over Monkshood tonight, Aster had done his job. There was some sort of commotion outside. He knew he wouldn’t have much time left. Which Pokemon had they wanted to summon? He grabbed one of the talismans, running toward the exit, an alarm had been triggered and he knew they would come to check on him soon.
In the hallway, he slipped the talisman into the pocket of a passerby, the Admin responsible for tripping the alarm, the two parting ways as he went to cover his tracks. When security arrived, he explained that he had wanted to take a walk to think and hoped he had merely tripped the alarm accidentally. He and security went to check on everything, finding one of the talismans missing. Aster feigned surprise, agreeing to stay in the room in case they came back while all the exits were checked. He sent pictures of his notes to his boss, and even photographs of the original pieces.
Ai approached the desk nervously. "Uh...I want to do what I can to help, but I don't think I have any Pokemon that can go Mega..."
Hemlock smiled at the girl before her. “You still have that egg I gave you, correct? Then take good care of it and I think you’ll be just fine.” She passed the girl a Gardevoirite and wished her well.
Following his brother's lead, the younger twin called back his Sylveon and let out his Absol. "I believe she's the only one eligible. My brother was just here..." He wasn't sure why Kouichi had decided to help, but figured that the other was more bored than anything. Still, he couldn't help but go along with it.
Hemlock nodded, searching once more for the appropriate stone. “You’ve got a special one there,” she commented. “Ken of the Elite Four has a Mega Absol too.”
Finding the Absolite she was looking for, she said, “There we go,” and held it out to him, only to realize her mistake. She walked over it to him and placed it directly in his palm. “Thank you and your brother both.”
It was weird going into a place without his twin by his side. But the people outside had told them that it had to be one at a time. So he had went in first to see Professor Hemlock. Once he was standing with her he didn't say anything at first before letting out his Bannete out. "A mega stone for him..." He said quietly. He wasn't much of a talker. Usually Kouji did the talking.
She beamed at him. “Of course.” Hemlock was out from behind her desk in seconds, rummaging through the labelled containers throughout the room before pulling one down off the shelf. Returning to the front, she held out a Banettite. “Use it wisely.”
~Anyone who participated is eligible for a Mega Stone! In order to receive it, send an in-character ask to this blog requesting for what Pokemon you’d like the stone for.
~Elite Four members already possess Mega Stones for one of their Pokemon, and they cannot receive another. Team Eclipse members will have had theirs stolen for them, and do not need to send in a request for one.
Professor Hemlock had been calmly appraising the situation. Marking her decision to get involved with a nod, she tossed a Pokeball into the air, releasing her Aerodactyl. His sharp screech stopped most activity in the hall. “Could everyone stealing perhaps stop what they’re doing?“
Zorana, collecting herself, brought out her Druddigon, trying to follow her mentor’s lead. “Just try it, pal,” she snarled at the closest grunt.
Hemlock glanced at her fiery assistant with fondness before scanning the area for Aster, finding no trace of him. She could be concerned later, now was the time to get things under control. Most attention was now on her, bar a few grunts battling some audience members, and someone far in the back.
“Why are you doing this?” The question came out measured, only the barest hint of anger and curiosity in her voice.
One of the men nearby snickered. “Boss’s orders, that’s what. Eclipse will remake the world! We just need some firepower to make it happen.”
Clearly having gotten what they came for, the Eclipse members began moving out, dropping whatever battles they were engaged in and running with the Mega Stones they’d managed to collect.
It took some time for everyone’s Pokemon to be put away, and the police to question the attendants. Once that was dealt with, however, Hemlock had a statement to make, and with it, a request. “Please put this on the local news stations, both TV and radio,” she added before speaking.
“My sincere apologies to all who came here today hoping to learn and see the exhibits. I do not often honor trainers with Keystones and a Mega Stone of their own, but I think now is the time to make an exception. Anyone who is willing to fight against this mysterious Team Eclipse will receive a Mega Stone as my blessing. Please, get to the bottom of this darkness threatening our region. You may come to me at any time for this gift as long as you express intent to aid in learning their goal and putting a stop to this.”
~Read the previous post (titled Trouble in Mayapple, Part One) and write something in response! Your muse can be in attendance or hear about it on the radio/through some other means.
~On Friday 4/15, Part Two will be posted, and those who wrote something for Part One will be eligible for a reward once that’s concluded! The reward will be revealed in Part Two, and you must send an in-character ask to Professor Hemlock to claim it.
The exhibition hall was packed, and Hemlock’s assistants were busy as ever, answering the questions of curious kids as they wandered the room’s expanse. Aster seemed distracted, and when not directly questioned, he was far more quiet than usual. When the two took their seats at the front of the hall in preparation for Hemlock’s speech, Zorana eyed him with a frown.
“What’s up with you today? I thought you were excited for this.”
Before there was a chance to respond, Professor Hemlock took the stage to an array of clapping. As soon as the applause died down, she began to speak:
“Thank you all for coming here today for the Mega Stone Showcase. It’s an honor that so many are in attendance. For those who don’t know me, I am Professor Hemlock, resident Pokemon expert here in the Digitalis region. Some of my work has focused on Mega Evolution, and that is what I am here to discuss with you today. Now--”
Just then, a flash of noise and light rocked the entrance. Several screams echoed even after the burst of sound had finished. Zorana was on her feet, head turning every which way to figure out what was going on. Aster had rushed to the emergency exit.
Meanwhile, Hemlock was trying to calm the crowd, only to lose total control as a dozen people in strange uniform entered through the smoke. One of them had a megaphone, and was shouting “Everyone stay where you are and nobody gets hurt!” Several were moving towards the display cases, breaking the glass and pocketing the Mega Stones that had been on display.
“Hello, everyone! For those of you who don’t know me, I am Professor Hemlock, resident Pokemon scientist of the Digitalis region. Many of you do know me, seeing as I often give out starting Pokemon to beginning trainers. I’ve called you all here today because my assistant Zorana has brought something to my attention. Her fellow assistant and dear friend, Aster, has recently become enamored with the organization called ‘Team Eclipse.’ Their motivations are unclear to me, but it is my sincere hope that those gathered here today will help me get to the bottom of this darkness facing our region.”
