Me who just got done listening to The Magnus Protocol episode where a trans character voiced by an actual trans woman said out loud as part of natural dialogue “I’m openly trans” and reading Kill Six Billion Demons where a character has a whole arc about being trans and transitions on page despite never using the word trans: Yes actually, you can make your character trans in the narrative without making it infuriatingly vague, based in gender essentialist stereotypes, and appropriating a song about a black man’s love for his daughter by having it be covered by a self admitted racist.

I know it's episode 9 era, but that scene with everyone on the couches in episode 8 still irks me so bad because what do you mean Jax pushing the red button doesn't matter?? What was the point of that entire moment if it was just going to be swept under the rug and resolved by the power of friendship in less than 5 minutes? I get that they had to deal with Caine, but that only feels like an excuse to not give Jax any consequences.

It's not even that I hate Jax (I do, but that's not the main reason I hate this scene lol), it's just that this moment was built up in episode 7 and ended up barely impacting the story at all. Jax could've pressed the blue button and nothing about the story would've changed. Caine would've still had his crash out and even when Jax presses the red one, no one is allowed to be upset about it. Not even Gangle, Ragatha, or Zooble, who are Jax's main victims are allowed to be even a little bit upset at him about it. Suddenly, everyone has to be friends now because Goose wanted them to and that's it?

Imagine how much more interesting it would've been to have the gang to argue and get divided, get tortured by Caine, and THEN have their "we're all in this together" moment. It doesn't solve every problem with the episode, but it at least would've been more believable and less boring for a show that's supposed to be for adults.

The characters are so awkward with each other that you probably wouldn't know that they had been stuck in the circus together for years if it wasn't explicitly said by jax in the pilot. I don't like that they keep getting paired up like high school cliques and gossiping about each other instead of actually interacting.
