My problem with violence is not the presence of it as such in the series (I'm obviously not that sensitive), but the fact that it doesn't actually serve any real narrative purpose. Almost the entire series is violence for the sake of violence. That`s all. Just because Gooseworx likes it. Especially in relation to women.
(And let's not pretend that there isn't a whole field of entertainment that directly targets violence against women)
TADC is not a dark comedy where we are supposed to laugh at the bad guys. Two ordinary women receive most of the violence: one of whom was a victim of domestic violence even before the events in the series, and the second becomes the main victim of bullying and at the same time suffers from depression and has suicidal tendencies.
Violence is not there to be a plot element, not for the characters to confront it or rethink what is happening to them. Why did Kaumfo have to attack Ragatha like that if they barely even interacted, what's the point except to throw Ragatha against the walls? Tearing Ragatha apart, (adding plush organs to her, apparently just so that they fly out of her with a new injury), throwing knives at her and so on, there is no point in all this, Ragatha never thinks about what is happening to her, she never comes to the conclusion that all this pain is not deserved by her, she is shown as a victim of domestic and then circus violence, but never reflects on it, never comes to the conclusion that he deserves better treatment.
Bullying Gangle is played out as a joke most of the time. Including the fact that Gooseworx uses her of all people to stand up for Jax. And no, it's not because it's the psychology of the victim, and Gangle just copes with the fact that Jax is bullying her, because nowhere in the show is it shown in this way, because Gangle is also not allowed to give free rein to her emotions and somehow reflect on what is happening to her. This is just so that once again Jax can be relieved of responsibility and the plot can move on.
Also, violence against characters is actively hushed up by other actors, players continue to call Gangle by the name that Jax gave her to humiliate her, no one is outraged that Jax spreads lies about others (for example, everyone allows Ragatha to believe that she drunkenly ordered Gangle to commit suicide, although they know that this is not the case, especially Gangle knows), about how she gets into other people's bedrooms, and so on. Especially our main character, who is extremely "empathic". The only one who says anything about it is Ragatha, and that's basically a couple of unflattering remarks.
The fact that the characters are supposedly insensitive to pain in the circus seems to be just a ploy to avoid a real discussion of the problem and remove responsibility from those who use this violence against others.
