Soul Train

original concept art this time you guys!! :)

not sure what to name her yet but she’s the protagonist of a new story im coming up with ✍🏽 it’s loosely inspired by cry of fear/afraid of monsters and twdg and a couple of valve games

its called soul train — tldr basically the protagonist gets caught in a drive-by shooting and is rushed to the hospital in an ambulance only for the ambulance to be forced to stop right in front of the hospital by an oncoming train, causing her to flatline, hence the soul train lol. she wakes up in purgatory which manifests as a never-ending train that never stops moving and she has to fight purgatory demons which manifest as her fears/anxieties to make it to the conductor car and escape to wake back up irl. if it were a game it’d probably have multiple endings like cry of fear, maybe branching paths in the game where you can try to go to the caboose or the conductor car and achieve different endings that way. i’d also probably make it choice based like telltale/twdg but those two genres might clash together, or they could be an interesting mix depending on how it’s executed 🤔 i might make some concept art of the potential endings when i have time. the main themes of the story would possibly be bravery/courage and the strength to realize you are mentally ill and need help.

also if you don’t know what a soul train is, it basically refers to the situation when an ambulance is stopped by an incoming train and the person inside passes away because of it. its a common speculation that it happens because the person inside wasn’t supposed to make it.

ALSO forgot to mention 😬 the reason she has the alternative bloody design is because the longer the stays in purgatory the more she dies, and the more she begins looking like a corpse. she’s essentially on a time limit

been debating on posting this simply because i know a good chunk of the twdg community goes INSANE for kenny (me included) but i hate how a lot of people within the community ignore the complexity of his character… everyone loves to act like kenny is some godlike savior but he really isn’t. kenny is not a good man by any means. sure he’s a family man, and that’s definitely a good quality to have (especially when taking care of an 11 year old little girl and a newborn) but everyone ignores or defends the fact that he emotionally manipulated clementine in favor of his own ideals. im not glazing jane either here don’t get me wrong she was pretty awful too, they were both terrible candidates to be her caretaker. kenny was not at all portrayed within season two (in my opinion) to have genuinely had clementine’s best interest at heart. it could be the fault of the writing, which it honestly is considering how most of season two’s writing is a complete dumpster fire, but manipulative behavior aside is the main thing i dislike about him. (besides his flawed ‘affinity’ relationship programming with lee in season one). my favorite scene involving s2 kenny is where he takes the blame for the walkie at howe’s. that scene is literally the ONLY scene in the entirety of s2 where we see an adult actually take accountability for something and comfort clementine. i really wished they portrayed that version of kenny more. everyone conveniently forgets ALL the time, not just in season 2, and excluding season 1, that clementine is a CHILD. not just someone under 18 years old age, but a CHILD. clementine is a BABY. i understand clementine as the player character has to do a majority of the objectives within the game for the sake of gameplay but cmon bro

okay anyway you guys aren’t here for my rants im sorry lol take my kenny sketch he was super fun to draw actually (i still prefer him over jane tbh)

much different from my usual content but i wanted to take the opportunity to rant about these two

within the twdg community there’s such an issue of a lack of understanding and empathy, especially when it comes to characters who are minors/children like ben. it’s easier to understand someone’s dislike for nick since he’s an adult and is perfectly capable of understanding his actions, but everyone forgets that ben is literally a teenager who was just trying to do his best in the most god awful situation you could put a teenager in. i also really hate how he was dumbed down in the crawford episode for the sake of plot convenience. i really feel like he was out of character within the latter half of s1, as he was presented as the type of kid who always had everyone else’s best interests at heart, but then his character is just boiled down to being a coward. him leaving clem behind on the streets of savannah was his biggest ooc moment in my opinion. i did really enjoy his scene where he snapped at kenny, though. his VA did a great job. i wish they’d explored his friendship with clementine more, they were so adorable together ): he could’ve had the most goated character development. i mean, imagine if he was clem’s new proposed “guardian” in s2 instead of kenny or jane.

and don’t even get me STARTED on nick. the writers just screwed the poor guy over for the most part. his guilt and humanity is well written but it goes absolutely nowhere beyond episode 2. he was presented as a secondary protagonist with the matthew situation but depending on if you save his life in episode 1 or 2, he literally just stops existing and is killed off screen in the lamest possible way. not to mention luke, his supposed best friend of 20 years couldn’t give less of a crap about his death. he makes a sad face and says “damn” and nothing related to nick is ever acknowledged past that. nick could’ve also had some super awesome character development. it would’ve been unbelievably way more interesting if HE was the one that lost his shit and beat carver’s face in instead of kenny. or luke, but that’s a rant for another time. they could’ve went the more predictable route and had him become a parallel to pete and become close with clementine in a big brother sort of way, and that would’ve been infinitely better than what we ended up with. i love ben and nick so much and it upsets me when i see casual fans or people within the community failing to understand their characters and boiling them down to “thank god this guy died he was annoying af 😹😹😹”

some AU clementine stuff… there’s a lot to it but basically it’s if omid had lived instead of christa (and actually made it past episode 1) and carver having a more significant influence on clementine depending on player choice. i really feel like the game doesn’t explore the concept of how disturbing it is that an 11 year old girl knows how to manipulate and intimidate people if it’s what she needs to do to survive. we get her line about rebecca’s baby but it comes off more as sassy than anything and has been memed to death, and she doesn’t really get the opportunity to do something else like that to the nth degree
