Canadian artist Laurel Johannesson. I love the dreamy nature of the "through-water" shots.

One of the first images from Mars Curiosity Rover inside the Gale crater just after landing. Awesome.
!! New Metric !! ... outstanding.
And the limited edition Synthetica Stereobox looks great.
A collection of my favorite artists for the Art Takes Times Square exhibition in New York City.
The most beautiful / compelling collection, as decided by the Artists Wanted panel will win "The Judges Prize".
“Voyagers”
“Voyagers” is a permanent audio video installation by The Light Surgeons for the National Maritime Museum’s new Sammy Ofer Wing.

Q. Is the desktop metaphor going to continue to dominate how we relate to computers, or is there some other metaphor you like better?
A. To have a new metaphor, you really need new issues. The desktop metaphor was invented because one, you were a stand-alone device, and two, you had to manage your own storage. That's a very big thing in the desktop world. And that may go away. You may not have to manage your own storage. You may not store much before too long.
The minute that I don't have to manage my own storage, and the minute I live primarily in a connected versus a stand-alone world, there are new options for metaphors.
Who said this?
It was Steve Jobs in the Feb 1996 Wired interview by Gary Wolf, that's over 16 years ago folks. Before the commercialization of the web, before returning to Apple.
Amazing ...
P.S. Why did I find this? Because I am working on a new media arts piece and going through all my old Wired magazines.
Virtual Emotions 12.1
I am expanding the use of my Roland DXY-980 plotter in the media arts. This was a piece I created for Propeller's Black & White Ball exhibition.

I've noticed a lot of city-based typographic/design art out there. Here are my three favorite Toronto pieces so far.
City Neighborhood Posters from Ork Posters
Airport Runway Screenprints from Nomo Design
Typographic Toronto from Ben Brommell
Niagara Falls, in addition to the two currently operational hydro-electric plants (one Canadian, one US), has four decommissioned plants. Michael Cook has explored and photographed all of them. You owe it to yourself to explore his exploration, it is wondrous.
I have a piece in the show and will be at the reception.
Last year's was a great time and the 2nd annual should be even better.
I've been lax in my posting ... so here's a follow-up to The Kinetic Approach project. I was honoured by Celeste Prize 2011 New York as a finalist in the Live Media & Performance category. The trip to New York and the exhibition at the Invisible Dog Art Center in Brooklyn went very well. I met some great people, saw some incredible art and performances in the show, and reacquainted myself with NYC after not visiting for a very long time. I would say "finger-drumming virtuoso" is a gross understatement. Jeremy Ellis going absolutely insane on the new Maschine Mikro from Native Instruments.
This is what 1000 frames per second gets you. Incredible detail and insight into the owl's hunting method.
Plots from The Kinetic Approach will be in the Square Foot Show at the A.W.O.L. and Twist galleries, Toronto, August 5 - 21, 2011.
One piece is guaranteed but all three may be displayed. The pieces are generative abstract renderings of mathematical constructs, 11" x 11", archival ink on Washi - Gampi Torinoko White HM.
Titles:
Polar plots of Legendre polynomials - 2011.07.22
Fractal trees - 2011.07.23
Recursive fire patterns - 2011.07.24
I have started production at the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto with my generative media installation - The Kinetic Approach.

I really want to see this film, I think I'll head down to the Open Roof Festival for the screening on July 14. The band Catl for that night looks great too!
Amazing web site as well - http://www.nationalparksproject.ca
