there’s a clear pause following the other’s words and pietro can’t blame her. he’d gotten out of there for the exact same thing, more or less. he’d needed to stand up and stretch his legs out. he didn’t plan on going for a ran – there was no point now; it was too late and he would only be called back the moment that something else happened. it felt like it was never ending, a back and forth until someone either gave in or they find a compromise. only pietro knew that neither of those things were going to happen.
“i don’t blame you,” he answers after a delay, voice quieter than it had been before. he barely manages to repress a sigh of his own. “it’s all… getting a bit too much in there. i don’t know how anyone can deal with it on a regular basis.”
this is the first time since he ‘woke up’ that pietro has allowed himself to be pulled into something to do with the avengers. wanda has all but begged him to do so, needed him to be there with and for her. he hadn’t been able to say no.
She sighs, looking to the speedster with a wry smile. “The shit is finally hitting the fan.” She comments, leaning against the railing and staring out at the open field that surrounded the compound. “I guess we shouldn’t have expected anything else after everything that’s happened.” Rachel tries to be logical about the situation, but even her voice betrays just how much she disagrees with the Accords.
Tony claimed they needed to be put in check, but all Rachel saw were strings the government was just waiting to attach to her. All she saw in the future was her freedom of choice being stripped away, and being turned into a weapon or worse an experiment. HYDRA had already done that, and the scars still lingered. Both mental and physical.
“I’m not even an Avenger, and I’ve gotten dragged into this.” She chuckles bitterly,, casting a glance in Pietro’s direction. Somehow she figures he understands that sentiment a little too well. “I won’t sign it though. Not if I have a choice in the matter.” She turns back, eyes on the open field once more as her knuckles turn white from her grip on the railing.
