what's honestly brilliant about cowboy bebop, among the infinite things that are brilliant about it, is that a lesser show would've developed a romance between spike and faye just because they're the male and female leads, and in a lesser show that would've been tropey, boring nonsense.
but because this series is better than that, it takes its time to really develop these two characters as mirrors of each other — or, as i keep saying, the same person in different font. faye who doesn't have a past, spike who doesn't have a future, each ghosts existing and hovering outside of time in some way, occasionally colliding (clashing) somewhere in the middle. that ghost parallel is even made explicit, as well as many others (e.g., "i'm not the cautious/delicate type"). faye and spike are the only characters who meet gren; it's faye who meets julia, not jet, and it's spike who chases after faye when she's trying to get the truth out of whitney.
the movie adds to this with vincent, who is a foil for both spike and faye, and it's no accident that they're the two characters who actually spend significant screentime with him (and also both get their shit rocked by him, so that's fun).
and it's in this, the ways that the stories of these two are inextricably linked by the narrative, the way that this is given time, space, and care to develop, the way that plays out in how they interact with each other, that you begin to see the potential for something there. part of the tragedy, of course, is that this potential will never be realized — and this is how i still have brainworms about this approximately 15 years after i watched cowboy bebop for the first time.
like people forget that weird girls grow into weird adult women. it doesn't just go away. and no you don't perish when you turn 25 or automatically turn into a nonweird wife and mother like some kind of Pokémon end evolution, you end up like me.

Sometimes I think about the irony that light such a femme fatale even though he's (gestures vaguely). all of his plans are literally "oh, I'll seduce so-and-so before brutally betraying them once they've outlived their use :] god women are so shallow and silly" and then the moment his plan can't use that (like with near) he's screaming and crying on the floor
Killing raye penber? seduce a woman to go on a date with.
killing naomi? gain her trust then discard her.
killing L? befriend him then discard him.
killing L? seduce a woman then discard her.
KILLING L? seduce a woman then discard her SHINIGAMI! the entire yotsuba arc revolves around this same premise as well!!!
"how should I get my fans to kill near?" gain their trust then manipulate/throw them at the wall. mikami? takada? the task force? take a BIG guess buddy. oops! all pawns!
And then mello and near show up, the ONLY two characters Light can't tide over and GUESS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN HE GOES AGAINST THEM!!! hint: fucking dies
Lol I always thought Light was a perfect example of a "Male Fatal". And you mentioned Mello and Near but there's also two men he failed to seduce into victory: Matsuda (he had the poor guy wrapped around his finger during the whole series until the Soichiro fiasco, and he still got the guy feeling guilty about his death at the end of the manga) and Ryuk (I can hotally see him trying to pull a Rem with him, him climbing his leg and grabbing his belt and all)
This was made specifically for me
The struggle is real, people...
One piece is so gay and like it’s so in your face omfg. We got the dude who likes to put shit in his mouth. The lesbian ready to rob every man in a mile radius. The bisexual boywife. The trans man who loves body mods. The all-knowing pansexual. The queer elder who plays music for everyone. The whole fucking revolutionary army… like ALL of them?!
Mind you, the one leading it all is the most asexual character in existence.

Friendly reminder you're allowed to kill anyone who perpetuates the myth of Argentina being entirely white
sanji in a pink apron checking out zoro lifting weights and leaning so he can look at him more and then proceeds to ragebait him is VERY important to me
