watched nolan's the odyssey.

this is a first draft. this is someone who only heard about the odyssey through pop culture. this is ragebait.

the only two positives: lupita as helen/clytemnestra. her three minutes of screentime were phenomenal. too bad she had to share the screen with jon berthwhateverthefuck. that man cannot act.

circe grabbing at the soldiers faces and basically molding them was cool too.

also the transphobes throwing a hissy fit over elliot page are so ridiculous he was there for seven minutes max and he did a phenomenal job.

that's it that's all the good stuff.

then circe agrees to turn his men back just bc odysseus said sawwy and pretty please. actually ridiculous. and why was she living like a brokey.

im sick of these "realistic" takes on fantastical stories. nolan is allergic to whimsy and the rest of us have to pay for it. i was so upset the sirens and scylla weren't even shown, charybdis was just a tiny whirlpool, even the pjo show did a better job. the cyclops eye looks like a pussy. the gods were just not there at all, and don't say athena, as if she did anything useful with her 3 seconds of screentime.

no underworld, no hades, no hermes, no zeus, no poseidon, calypso was genuinely pointless, and why did the horse look like that.

this man clearly wanted to make a war movie and ruined all the magical aspects of the myth.

im irritated.

so glad i finally finished l'arte della gioia / the art of joy by goliarda sapienza after watching the show.

modesta constantly addressing beatrice when she's with carmine, mattia, joyce and nina... she really was her greatest love oh my beadesta :(((

i enjoyed the third arc the most. joyce is easily modesta's most interesting love interest, because she's what modesta could've become if she didn't fight back and let herself stay limited within the confines of what's expected of her. their reunion in the end was so bittersweet, you don't expect her to end up like gaia when you first see her but that's the only destination that makes sense when you succumb to cowardice.

i love modesta. such an incredible terrible wonderful character. i love her and all her terrible decisions.
