i love being a light multi-shipper
idk if anybody else did this meme yet but i at least wanted to make my own version so credit to anybody that did it first i apologize if so🥲
ryuklight except ryuk jokingly calls light "the apple of my eye" and light thinks its the corniest thing to ever come out of his mouth
do you guys think this actually happened
I legit had so much fun drawing ryuk. what a cutie this shinigami is
honestly ryuk & light’s relationship is so important to me and my enjoyment of death note fan content (or even canon media, like adaptations) really depends on their portrayal of them. it’s not really a shipping thing because i don’t really view their relationship in a romantic sense, but i also don’t know if i view it fully platonically. whatever they have going i just think that ryuk & light do have a connection that neither of them tend to acknowledge and maybe aren’t even fully aware of but it’s important to them, personally, as well as them as characters.
they’re basically each other’s closest, most secure/reliable relationship, and i think that brings them both some amount of comfort even if they don’t really realise it.
i think the reason they’re so secure in their relationship is because the rules are clear from the beginning: we’re both using each other to further our own goals; ryuk is a neutral party audience member in this situation, light will eventually die at ryuk’s hand. so then they don’t really have any reason to be at odds with each other because they know the other’s goals and intentions and how they align.
this especially applies to light, bc ryuk isn’t really all that bothered by that kind of stuff. again, he’s a spectator. but light — literally everyone is either for or against him, a pawn on the board, or in l’s case, the opponent. ryuk is the safest option to confide in or speak to because he knows ryuk isn’t part of the game.
that, plus the fact that they’re kindred spirits in that both were plagued by boredom and ennui that was greatly alleviated, basically eliminated (at least for a time) by their meeting, and that they spend pretty much all their time together for years on end, and i think you can kind of understand what i mean.
like it’s not necessarily romantic but i think it’s a level of closeness that would feel too intimate to share with anyone other than a partner for a lot of people, yk? but that’s just my opinion
moonapple in my book..... beautiful
Until Dawn
A short Light & Ryuk comic (can be read as gen or romantic)
by Yoko Fujitani, @/fujitaniyoko on Twitter, as part of the multi-author anthology Death Logic 1!
I like to think that Ryuk killing Light has a romantic undertone that perhaps only makes sense in Ryuk’s mind.
But it’s almost like he’s possessive of Light’s life. Ryuk possessed him and accompanied him, and this literally prevented other Shinigami from taking Light’s life (as per the rules); he unwittingly became Light’s bodyguard against the other Shinigami, and Light had no idea.
Light was the only human Ryuk ever saw up close, the one he was so close to and who became part of his life. The other humans Ryuk killed were just numbers; Light was... like the prey he was guarding. And Ryuk wrote his name in his note, only he could do that.
And when Ryuk took Light’s remaining years of life for himself, it was as if he were swallowing his life, sharing Light’s remaining years. Now he was living Light’s life, living years he only had because Light existed, and for a few years, they became one.
And Light was going to die anyway, but Ryuk couldn’t just let him die; he had to be the one responsible. And for Ryuk, since Light was going to die anyway, then he should die soon, because he didn’t want to delay this mourning.
