to add a more personal note, i dont understand why people insist im 'degrading them' by saying its a slur. thats what it is, that is its history, its current usage, and that is the truth.

what is degrading is having to be called a slur in order to access services you need to survive. and knowing that jf you say anything your access to those resources can potentially be removed or at best, permanently altered, bc of lies that people perpetuate about the q slur and about people who say its a slur. its not from terfs, its from lgbt people who have felt it's bite and dont want to feel thar from our own community

I think the term queer especially in the context of queer studies and queer academia is a useful term. I know that LGBT is also a useful umbrella term, but I think queer is good too and it's been reclaimed in such a bright and vibrant way, as well as having a fair amount of visibility and usability.
