I have kind of a niche political view on tumblr, which is that I think misogyny is bad even when itâs just hurting women
and I donât even think it needs to have a singular benefit for men for feminism and the abolition of patriarchy to be worthwhile
in fact the abolition of patriarchy could be a net loss for men and I would still think that feminism and the abolition of patriarchy was worth it

it's totally fucking crazy making how many transmisogynists these days will try to gaslight you about "trans men transition towards a privilege of power" having "always been a TERF talking point" btw. literally not something that any TERF has ever said because it violates the fundamental argument that gender positionality is immutable and is in direct opposition to the core thesis of trans exclusionary radical feminism but if you suggest trans men have any advantage over trans women you'll get called a TERF in the same breath as someone defending the concept of "afab oppression"

Way too many people who don't experience these axies of oppression: "Oh, so you're a hate group? You hate men? You know hating trans men makes you a terf, right? if you're a man, and you see someone say something to the effect of "men are misogynistic assholes" your reaction should not be "but I'm not a misogynistic asshole" it should be "I will do everything I can to not be a misogynistic asshole."
Instead of treating that statement like a personal attack to deny, you should treat it like a challenge for you to overcome. Instead of denying your complicity in patriarchy, prove your commitment to feminism. Instead of trying to prove that you've done nothing wrong, focus on doing something correct. I know that you can, if I didn't think men could do better, I wouldn't be wasting my time on the criticism.
Believe it or not, I actually want you to prove me wrong. I want men to surprise me with their feminism, to overcome that challenge, I would be delighted for men to prove that they are capable of more than complicity. If you think that you are, all I ask is that you prove it.
sometimes i talk about how awful it was to feel trapped by my daily makeup routine and how i couldnât leave the house without putting on a full face and it played a major role in the misery of my high school experience because i had to spend so much extra time getting ready in the mornings and that followed me into my early 20s as well and it was hell and it was so incredibly liberating to go through the slow and uncomfortable but ultimately essential process of getting my bare face back and having makeup be an optional accessory instead of a mandatory uniform. and the response always tends to be ah yes of course, because of your trans and your masculine. and itâs like aha so close! actually! I think if I ended up being a feminine cis woman I also still would not deserve even a second of that shit! I think trans women and nonbinary people and every human alive should have the option to leave the house without a single cosmetic product ever touching their face! but thanks for playing!
for real tho it feels exhausting that ive seen this whole "woman should be allowed to abstain from X beauty standard" -> "i perform X beauty standard, am i evil? do you think im evil? please forgive me i came up with a dozen excuses đ„ș" since like 2015 (and i know its been going on longer than that) like girl thats not the poiiiiint
look me in the eyes. repeat after me. "i face societal pressure to perform this beauty standard. i should not face that pressure. i conform to this standard. i am rewarded for performing to this standard. i need to respect women who do not perform this standard. this is not about whether or not i am a sinner for wearing makeup."
I understand what many girlies are trying to say when they describe trans women as âwomen you can freely abuse in publicâ but cis women also very much get abused in public with no recourse. A theoretical sympathizer might exist where there may be less for trans women, but cis women do in fact get abused in public without people stepping in.
Letâs be specific and detailed in our criticisms of transmisogyny. Cisness doesnât protect you from public abuse but transmisogyny does ensure less general public sympathy. Thatâs a lot less loaded and nuanced than âtrans women experience public abuse that cis women never do because everyone values the safety and wellbeing of cis women.â Thatâs clearly not true whereas âtrans women receive less general public sympathy for the abuse they experience in private and in publicâ is 100% true.
from what i've observed, i do think there is some pressure for women in not explicitly feminist leftist circles to affect a kind of "cool girl" posture for the benefit of the men in the movement

i'm still a leftist but in my experience women are viewed as expendable in leftist spaces, spoken over, treated as stupid, on a level that is astounding. you can get away with an enormous level of vitriolic hatred for women if you couch it in the right terms
yeah they think it's bourgeois and childish and that you are bourgeois and childish if you are a feminist. sometimes the ones that want to act like Allies to Women will act like it's cute (read: naĂŻve) that you're a feminist and expect you to be flattered by that. otherwise you're stuck up and obnoxious for acknowledging rape culture, caring about your own safety, and not believing in bullshit like "rich women don't experience misogyny"
