Can’t remember where I read it, but I saw a post that said something about how whenever there is a story about a man who turns into a monster it is understood that the monster isn’t his true form, and the story is usually about uncovering his “true self” from within, but whenever the story is about a woman who turns into a monster it is the opposite in that her monster form is seen as her “true form” that gets revealed for everyone to see (and judge). Basically when a man is a monster people will try and find the good in him, but when a woman is a monster people see it as her true self being revealed and she not given the grace or nuance of being anything more
