there seems to be two camps of thought in tomarrymort:
Voldemort is the only special one. Genius. Innovator. Dark Lord. Old and POWERFUL. Harry can never be his equal. Harry is just a kid who gets lucky sometimes. He is not especially powerful, or smart or talented or interesting. Voldemort only takes an interest bc Harry just so happens to be his horcrux. Voldemort will always have the upper hand and always win. Harry is Voldemort's prey and Voldemort cannot help but be a predator to him. Also tied in is the idea that Voldemort will never compromise or change his ways. He will never soften for Harry. Thus Harry must be the one to surrender his ideals, his freedoms and his loved ones. Voldemort surrenders nothing.
Both Voldemort and Harry are special to each other. Harry has his own skills, quick thinker, magically powerful, his empathy is a strength not a weakness. Harry has Voldemort on the back foot sometimes. Voldemort has to change for Harry. Voldemort is willing to change and compromise. Also tied in is the idea that Harry can change Voldemort as much as Voldemort can change him. Harry can and does stand his ground with regards to his morals and people he loves and cares for.
One of these is more aligned with canon than the other. And I suspect one of these needs to flatten both Harry and Voldemort to fit into its interpretation. I suspect that one is likely to make Harry more unduly forgiving/submissive/stupid than he is in canon in order for Voldemort to be more smart/powerful/unbeatable.
It's interesting though, bc canonically, Voldemort does lose to a 17 year old kid. Yes, the all powerful dark lord, not only loses, he loses to the comparatively weak and inexperienced Harry Potter.
Just musing aloud.
