various tv, film, and theater producers for the last 50 years smacking themselves in the forehead like fuuuuck how can we make it easy to understand why carrie is alienated from her peers and callously bullied at school WITHOUT making her a hideous fatass like in the book

What would have happened if Count Binface actually won? Would they have conceded?
No, he'd have been the duly elected MP for Clacton. They'd have had to work out how he could be sworn in while wearing the bin.
The comedian under the bin is actually a very switched on and politically minded guy, so ironically, he would have been an amazing champion of local causes. But he would also have done so in character as an intergalactic space lord

genuinely I'm so sick of people wanting all fiction to be ethical. can we all just get a little gross with it. the point of fiction is that it's not real. we can be unethical in fiction; same goes with being perverted with fiction, being unrealistic with fiction, and being grotesque with fiction. not all fiction has to be ethical, not every character has to be ethical, and that's okay. can we stop with the puritanism. be gross. be unrealistic. be whatever. if I don't like it it's not my business as long as we're all clear that its fictional.
via ered.bsky.social, the only kinds of unethical fiction:
people in the replies are going "what about books glorifying unethical things" and "what if it's propaganda" and you, my friends, are who this comic was made for
pet rent is a stupid and exploitative fee along with rent in general but it's kind of obnoxious seeing Pet Parent™ types complain about it by saying that landlords should charge additional child rent instead as if that's not, like, something landlords would be chomping at the bit to do to impoverished and especially racialized tenants if it was anywhere in the vicinity of legal

i confess i don't really understand what people mean when they say they cannot find good books to read anymore. like. go to the shop or library and choose a book??
the problem generally seems to be something along the lines of 'everyone on tiktok is telling me to read books i think sounds bad' and its like ok i do not think those people have your best interests at heart
"if somebody gave birth in your house would you let them stay there?" Well first of all America is a bit bigger than my house. Like if there was a person who was proportionate to the Continental United States like I am to my house I feel like we have bigger problems than birthright citizenship.

Not to oversimplify a complex issue, but i think we could reduce the number of deadly car crashes by increasing wages and having shorter work weeks.
Hi! I was wondering if you had any Welsh puns/wordplay you liked specifically? Excellent blog btw
Oooooh, the first one that comes to mind is this one:
Pili Palas is a small zoo and tourist attraction on Ynys Môn with a few meerkats, birds and, most importantly, a butterfly house. Why is this important? Because the Welsh word for "butterfly" is pili-pala, and the word for "palace" is palas - put together, we have the Butterfly Palace!
Come to think of it, businesses and organisations in Wales are love a good bit of wordplay, with LGBTQ+ (or LHDTC+!) ones going particularly hard:
Paned o Gê is an independent queer bookshop (currently online-only but hopefully finding a new home soon), and the name is a pun on paned o de ("cup of tea") and gê (borrowed from the English "gay").
And Cwiar na Nog is the Urdd's LGBTQ+ community, with the name being a pun on cwiar (borrowed from the English "queer") and Tír na nÓg, Irish for "Land of Youth" and a popular concept here in Wales too. It's particularly apt because the Urdd is specifically an organisation for children and young adults!
I will definitely think of more, but that's all for now - diolch for the extremely fun question!
