is it just me or does it seem like Ishida sui plans on bringing back all the dead characters from the main story. I mean he has already brought a couple back.

I noticed that the fandom has read Touka’s talk in a very different light than I have, so I’m going to put this here for discussing purposes.
While on the one hand I do agree that Touka has changed a lot from the violent, hotheaded and rash teenager she once was, I can’t totally agree that she’s undergone a complete character development, yet.
Sure, she may be telling Akira that violence for the sake of revenge is wrong, but not because she realizes that violence is inherently wrong in itself, but because she doesn’t want to be left alone again as a consequence.
The act of wating for Kaneki itself is the biggest giveaway that she, despite her words of wisdom, is still living in the past, too. She’s still that scared little child that was left with nothing else to do than watch other people walk away from her:
Which is probably another reason why she can empathize with Akira so well.
Regarding your Matsuri omake translation I just thought to inform you that you should have probably left note about last part because I believe last part was meant to be reference to "Hana no Ko Lunlun",your translation of ルンルン is correct because it does mean "happy" but it actually could be translated to Lunlun as well and I do believe Ishida was doing reference with Matsuri because if you look at plot of that series it matches Matsuri a lot, just informing in case you didn't knew :)
Hi. Thanks for writing to me, but sometimes a banana is just a banana. Not every word Ishida writes is a literary reference. And I, being born in the 80s, obviously watched Lunlun on TV growing up: Matsuri is in no way an orphan who genuinely likes helping people, has a gentle heart and marries a fairy Prince. Matsuri is, in fact, so removed from Lunlun I’m struggling to see what similarities you might be referring to.
Also, “happiness” is in that omake because the joke is that Matsuri came to Urie to propose marriage (via sex) and left happy and the reader has to decide whether it means Urie and him had sex or if Matsuri’s gone so far the shoujo hole he finds just sleeping next to the person he likes happiness. The dirty/pure punchline is the joke, not that Ishida was hiding an anime in there.
Haha, I know.
“Sneaking part” is where it was written in way that is meant as “sneaking to make love to person” that sort of night visit.
Anyway, think Lunlun figure would be more Urie while Matsuri would be prince.
But that’s beyond point. Main reference would be that plot revolves around finding magical flower, new ruler (prince who left his throne to his younger brother in end so he can marry Lunlun) which is that reference I mainly mean of because Matsuri is someone who was meant to be like that Washuu prince who might have succeeded (like Marude himself said that he might have been better option instead). Hope I made the reference bit now clearer between two (no one said they’re 100% same XD, just similar matter if you look at it a bit).
Like I said, I wasn’t correcting your translation since ルンル ン does mean to be in euphoric mood, happy pretty much (and as I said at start, I know regarding “making love” matter). Simply merely suggesting that perhaps it can be added in side note like that extra info.
Unsure is this anonymous specific ask, anyway I see you're looking into finding a meaning behind Uta's name so thought to throw "Uta Codex" your way to look it up,as for his name in general I can personally say it's name usually meant for females mainly(It's also used in Nordic countries as female name again) and way his name is written in katakana ウタ is way female's first name is written (詩 would be one of ways to write it as male name)...but don't interpret that wrong way, just adding it there.
Ah, thanks for the addition. It’s less a search and more a journey my asks are taking me on.
I’d never heard of the Uta Codex, but I’m always game for more Donato connections, even if they might just be coincidental.
I’ve mentioned before that Uta has a good deal of gender play going on so it makes sense that is name is unisex with a female tilt. Though in my understanding names being written out in Katakana is done for all sorts of reasons. It is, historically, more common with female names, for reasons associated with literacy rates and a preference for sons, but these days, as far as I know, it’s a matter of being “cool” and “hip” as much as anything. (Higemaru’s first name, Touma, has several traditional Kanj spellings, and his family is plenty educated, but it’s given to us in Katakana.)
It also seems to be something Ishida uses for Ghoul names, even when there is a possible Kanji writing of the name, which might have something to do with lack of literacy among ghouls. It’s even more common in ghoul aliases, even when they are Japanese words.
Uta, of course, almost certainly has no problem with Kanji himself I mean dude has a tattoo in Latin-greek on his neck from Martial. He strikes me as rather well read.
I think his name is in Katakana more in the “hip and trendy” sense. It fits with the rest of the Clowns, too.
Name is mainly written in kanji because it’s believed that name written in kanji is meant to be more meaningful.
For rest of Clowns, as far as those with male sex go .... actually ... their names are mainly written in katakana due being names of foreign origin that can’t be written in kanji in first place (like Donato and Nico, though Donato is Russian so his name isn’t meant to be written in kanji for starters). But anyway, as far as these two Clowns go, they don’t do it to be trendy for certain. It’s simply the only way their name can be written as in Japanese. Roma and Itori are females so with them that “question” isn’t much there.
Now Touma is well, ....male name. So no matter how it’s written it shall be seen as male name. He doesn’t have same “case” as Uta’s name does.
Uta on another hand (I couldn’t write much in ask regarding it) is not that common name but it’s mainly meant for females and way his is written is way you would write “Uta” name for someone who’s female. As for his gender play, main two cases I at least can call such would be kitsune art (which was prediction to his shapeshifting due kitsune being said to be shapeshifter trickster and reason where it gets “female” points is because kitsune is said to take form mostly of attractive woman to seduce men/ wonder about key on his belt though? Because kitsune is also said to be guardian. But I shall not go there now as it’s not the point to current topic....) & art in calendar in where he appears to be dressed as onnagata (onnagata are male actors who assumed role of female).
These are only two gender plays I can think of. If you mean on
↑Skirt thing. Nah. I wouldn’t call that “gender play” much or at all honestly.
Uta’s fashion is meant to be gothic (though he doesn’t go for specific and single goth style) mixed with punkish sometimes. And there is thing called “unisex goth skirts” which are worn by both sexes (mostly used among Industrial goths).
So nah xD
Wouldn’t add that to his “gender play” just gothic fashion.
(Phew I made it long LoL) But thought to add this.
hey do you got any clue what did miyavi tweet to Ishida?
ᴍɪʏᴀᴠɪ: Sui-kun, thank you!
♦He’s thanking him on making shirt for him for his 15th Anniversary and RT Ishida’s tweet in where Ishida did another drawing for him talking about how honored he is to have been invited to MIYAVI’s 15th Anniversary♦
ɪsʜɪᴅᴀ: Miyavi-san, same, thank you very much as well!
If I’m able to draw something again, I would be happy to…!
ᴍɪʏᴀᴠɪ: Certainly!
in Ishida's recent pic I see Nier Automata >.>
SAME I JUST WOKE UP TO THAT TWEET AND IM YELLING
Seems like he was saying he bought the CD so he could get the picture book! [x]
I’m taking this as confirmation that the Oggai kids with the blindfolds are based of the NieR YoRHa Androids
especially considering how similar Kijima looks to Emil, another MC from the previous NieR game (was it ever confirmed that Ishida took inspo from Emil for the character design?)
I wonder if the Oggai are going to have names like 9S and 2B…. Furuta Nimura is based on his birthdate so basically that anyways!
ok but real talk, Ishida drew Kaine from the previous NieR game [x]
I wonder if he’ll do art for Automata too *PRAYER HANDS*
Is it weird that I love Donato the same way I love Uta? Are there other Donato fans?

Biggest Donato fan trash before he was even cool to like for sure ;)

This faceswap is creepy and hilarious. I can’t. Akira’s cat is safe. We need to protect it.
You think Furuta is going to die soon?
Considering everything about Furuta that has been set up is now just about resolved, yes.
We now know what Furuta’s 101 children are. Furuta is most likely not going to grow or change as a character, because he represents the biggest block on Kaneki himself that prevents his own growth (lack of a sense of self, trying to constantly find reason and self fulfillment in others, but kaneki is a passive manipulator and Furuta an active one).
In a jungian tale in order to conquer your shadow you have to absorb them. Kaneki is only going to grow once he directly confronts Furuta and defeats him in whatever way, the same way that Amon won’t grow until he confronts Donato.
The only thing we don’t know about Furuta right now is the meaning of “Super Peace” and the location where he’s currently hiding Rize (which is inevitably tied to his cooperation with Kanou too, he even says we’ll get back to that later). Once those two facts are revealed Furuta’s pretty much done for, a character who doesn’t grow or change or have things to reveal is a dead man walking.
As others have been saying this is the arc of illusion. Furuta looks unstoppable right now and like a true final antagonist, but that all could be uprooted very quickly. Especially with all the hints that Furuta is not invested in this conflict as personally as all others are and is merely staging a show.
I quite agree about it.
I myself don’t picture Furuta as that end game villain. Seeing how everything is going smoothly right according to his “plans” and how much in control he’s shown to be, I smell downfall for him before expected time.
Other thing that makes me sure of it is that Furuta is villain, but mainly of Rize’s story more rather then Kaneki’s. Just like Donato is villain but mainly of Amon’s story. No matter what Donato might do in future, no matter on what villain chair he sits on next, despite everything he shall always remain main villain of Amon’s story only. Same with Furuta. He’s one set against Kaneki but he’s mainly main villain of Rize’s story. Yes he was there, was (one among) who started everything but despite that Furuta doesn’t have that connection to Kaneki. By that I mean he can’t shake up Kaneki emotionally in any way.
Sure, he’s guy who fucked him up (kinda saved him at same time) and now his main rival but connection between two on emotional level doesn’t exist.
Call me cliche all you want but I do believe that villain of story needs to be person that can shake his enemy up on every level including emotional. Furuta doesn’t have that with Kaneki but with Rize.
So I think villain (perhaps not TG’s main villain) but Kaneki’s, needs to be villain of Kaneki’s story and in there there are two that come to my mind: Uta or Hide.
While Kaneki and Uta don’t have who knows what special bond between each other, still Uta is someone who was like guide in his life. Someone Kaneki held respect for. But thing that makes him option is his connection to people Kaneki cares about which is what could shake Kaneki on that emotional level. Now that you think of it.... it truly is terrifying of knowing that he could beyond mess with Kaneki not only by hurting him but also ones he cares for as he is more then acquainted with them.
But most perfect one imo would be Hide.
Because nobody could shake Kaneki up as half as Hide would. Hide played largest part in Kaneki’s life. You could say that it actually all started with Hide! Because Hide was first person Kaneki had in his life that he could call friend. Hide is one who’s “death” has affected Kaneki most and seeing Kaneki grinning in this chapter after Takizawa points out at Kaneki having ulterior motives, something tells me that those got to do with Hide.
Hide’s words to keep on living.
So honestly I have to say Hide indeed would be that most perfect for Kaneki’s story because it actually did started with Hide, kept going on with Hide and I feel it should end with him as well.
As for villain overall?
Well ... Kanou sure got top hat or perhaps even Itori might be that perfect candidate which would explain why she’s kept in dark since start of :re.

Who’s convinced that Furuta was inspired after Japanese rocker (singer) Sawada Kenji a.k.a. Julie?
Face structure, eyes, eyebrows, then even mole (except Juli got it on opposite side). Only difference would be hairdo but in face like they look a freaking whole lot! ... to me at least.
Especially now because of how Furuta looks on that cover
Just ...
... I can’t ...
