i absolutely could not be bothered with miroku, but how'd I do with the others?
Watched Suzume again and I thought how much I love this movie. It's one of the most beautiful portrayals of grief, not just personal grief but communal grief, the loss of people and places and the land itself. I love the banality with which Daijin treats death in the face of his selfish love and how he becomes ill when faced with rejection. Yet he eventually understands Suzume's love and then strives to sacrifice his feelings for her.
