Thank You for 10K followers!
This is really wierd and I donât really know where to start! Itâs my birthday today and to hit such a landmark amount of followers on my Sweet Sixteenth has been the best present ever!
This tumblr has become more than I really ever imagined. I set it up as a huge fan of Tyler Oakley. I had been watching his videos for a while, and had seen some people posting about him, so I figured I would too. I purely started it for my own enjoyment and thats the only reason I do it now, but I guess people care. You see, Iâm not your âsteroetypicalâ teenage girl. Iâm not skinny, I donât ware skinny jeans, and Iâm really geeky, but in tumblr and YouTube I found a community of people who didnât care, and wouldnât judge me.
When I first started this blog I didnât tell any of my friends. I thought they would think I was stupid for having a fan blog for someone who created online videos. (It wasnât thought to be the cool thing to do!)Â I kept it a secret for a couple of months, until Tyler liked one of my posts for the first time. My friend Tilly was platting my short hair for a joke one lunch, and I went on my phone to look at it. As I turned it on I saw the notification and screamed. I had no clue how my blog with 10 followers had been noticed by my idol with millions of followers. I had to tell everybody about my blog, and I assumed they would all laugh, but they didnât! They all seemed to complete accept it. Then things got weird. Tyler reblogged me and I gained 100 followers over night. He put one of my edits on his Instagram. My blog started blowing up, and the thing that I had just started for fun was actually becoming something. I remember hitting 400 followers and thinking it was the biggest thing in the world. My school is tiny, and once I had hit 400 followers I could fill my school assembly with my followers! Then things started getting even weirder! I hit 1000 and then the week before I met Tyler at his tour I hit 2000. I went with my mum to his tour and the auditorium held 1900 people, and I remember turning around and saying to my mum, âThis is the amount of followers I have.â It was at this moment my mum went from thinking I spent too much time online to saying, â I finally understand Gracie, this is a lot of people! I am very proud!â Â When I am older I want to be an opera singer and my dream is to sing at the last night of the proms, a huge summer concert in the UK. It is held at the Royal Albert Hall which seats 5,272 people. I hit 5000 this summer before the last night of the proms, and I realised that if i was ever lucky enough to sing there that I could fill the auditorium with you guys.
Today when I hit 10k all my school friends clapped and hugged me. Somehow my online life is even being accepted at school! Although most now understand my blog, some of my school friends still donât really understand why I spend so much time on my blog. And I guess itâs because it has now become more of a blog to me. It has become a way of talking to this amazing community. It was the way that my idol noticed me, and the way I met most of you!Â
I feel so happy to be part of this massive family! I love you guys, and Team Internet! Tumblr has become the place I turn to at my most upset and stressed, but also at my happiest. I know that as I scroll through my dash, I will see people that over the last few months have become like a second family! I feel as though I can be exactly who I am, with no need to change myself, because everyone in this community is an individual and thatâs why it is so special!
Thank you so much to @dan-senpai (Thyra), who I know I can always turn to to ask questions, or just have a chat! @the-troyler-blog was the first youtube blog I ever followed, and really helped me when I first started. @disneyoakley-x was my first ever internet friend who I met at Tylerâs tour, and I always love chatting to her! @thirstyfortroyler, @lookingfortronler, @whatstroyler, @oakleysworld, @oakleysheart and @wishingfortroyler are all amazing and creative people you should definatly check out! I love their blogs! <3
Lastly @tyleroakley is the amazing inspiration for this page. He has helped me accept who I am and be more confident in myself. He inspires me and when his book came out earlier this month I cried whilst reading it, shortly before dressing up as him on halloween and promoting it everywhere I went. I first stumbled upon Tylerâs videos because a couple of my fiends had met him. They talked about him at school and I eventually relised I would have to look this guy up. From the first video I watched, I got drawn in by Tylerâs kind and welcoming personality. I feel as though in your teen years, you are at your most impressionable and it is important that your role models are good ones. I feel as though I have found that in Tyler. The amount he cares for his fans genuinely humbles me.Â
I literally donât know how any of you guys found me, or why you stayed, but Iâm so happy that you did! Please message me anytime, even just to say hi! I want to make as many friends as possible and meet even more people in this massive, unconventional family! I love you guys!
