Hoyne: Off The Grid (American Red Ale, Victoria)
Pours copper, minimal soapy head. Nose is sweet, fruity malt. Cherry, light bourbon, hint of alcohol. Mouth: big and creamy, perfect for a red. Easy drinking, great malt, not too bitter, not too sweet. Bit of nut coming further down the glass. So many American reds fall prey to one-dimensional, brassy malt flavours, but not this one. Fan-freakin’-tastic, Hoyne.
Pairing: Unexpected out-of-genre detour that works better than expected. Distorted Memory, “Temple Of The Black Star”
If Temple Of The Black Star was a beer?....rad. I should find a bottle of this just cause.
