As an older queer, allow me to say: the walls of the closet are load-bearing. It is our job as a community to stand in front of that door and tell everyone who wants to peek inside to fuck off.

There are so many reasons a person may choose not to come out and there is no reason a person would owe the public or a stranger that information. Certainly it's not owed simply because someone is famous.

We have fought for decades to make it safer for people to be open and authentic about themselves, but we are not yet there. And even if we were, the closet would still be something we need to maintain for those who are not ready to reveal that part of themselves.

#an AU where Adam kills John would have been VERY interesting #but I have this image in my head of an AU where the Men of Letters wasn't wiped out by Abaddon-#and either:#somehow John didn't get initiated (Mary only found him so attractive because he was just A Normal Guy and her ticket to A Normal Life)#OR he did get initiated- which has two paths #a. Mary and John have this whole Romeo and Juliet thing going on. MoL have too much red tape for his taste and he goes hunter.#b. Mary and John BOTH hide their family business from each other. John finds the sulfur and tracks Azazel down himself using MoL resources-#in the former it's the MoL who kill him. or get him killed by some naive sheltered patriarchal bullshit.#when Dean dies the first time and John doesn't bring him backˏ Sam won't leave John for Dean's sake but gets REAL dark about it #and eventually the whole Azazel Miss America pageant happens. John shows up with Bobby. John almost takes Sam out-#something about him walking in at the wrong time and thinks Sam is gonna kill Jake. Bobby steps in and pulls Sam out before it goes too far #they learn about the conditions of the pagent and using his MoL training he manages to get it up for a ritual that fakes Sam's death so well #that is fools Azazel and Jake and Bobby.#Bobby puts the pieces together when John refuses bury or burn Sam's body. John means to let Azazel use Jake so that he can track the demon-#and protect Sam from the demon until he can kill it... but Bobby is pretty damn convinced that there's a part of John that is keeping Sam #as an ace up his sleeve in case he fails or needs to catch Azazel off guard.#When the gates of hell open Sam is awoken either by vessel instincts or by angelic intervention.#Dean is returned to Earth by angels simultaneously #John is duking it out with Azazel and Jake (losing) when Sam shows up and takes out Jake. Azazel is over the moon and John is horrified.#The pair are about to lose when Dean shows up and genuinely takes Azazel off guard. John gets the Colt the way that Dean might've and #takes Azazel out.#aftermath scene takes place with Sam relieved Dean is back and pissed at John #In their argumentˏ Dean hears what happened and is devastated. John let Dean die after everything Dean sacrificed for his family but Sam #Sam was protected. When Sam tells John to take a hike Dean is too heartbroken but knows he has to protect Sammy. so he stays with Sam.#After they do the brother sceneˏ we cut to John in some dindgy hotel room on the phone with Bobby who tries to comfort him #ˮthey'll come around. you're a family and they need you. especially now with the whole apocalypse thing. just let them cool off...ˮ #ˮjust keep an eye on them for me?ˮ #the call ends and John takes a drink. sensing that their brother had fallen and the gates were opened the remaining three generals stir #and ramiel shows up to avenge his brother. he is quietly hinted at throughout the following season as watching sam being tempted by meg and #evading being noticed by the demons who would have him lead.

Hey. Why isn’t the moon landing a national holiday in the US. Isn’t that fucked up? Does anyone else think that’s absurd?

It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! That’s a big deal! I’ve never thought about it before but now that I have, it’s ridiculous to me that that’s not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why don’t we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!
