after mike and el broke up, max told el mike would come crawling back to her begging for her forgiveness and he didn't do that. instead, after mike and will had a fight, mike biked across town all the way to will's house at night and under pouring rain, pounded on his door and screamed his name to beg for his forgiveness. and when he couldn't find him home, he went looking for him in the woods and these two insane things happen in the same episode and they didn't do shit with it

like why go out of your way to write this and then have it mean absolutely nothing those people are crazy (derogatory) i hate their guts

They can make their characters say slurs even in other languages

but they use the queer character to do torture porn since he was a baby, he can't say the word gay or queer either and has to frame his sexuality as a negative and being forced to come out by the villain and then ALL the queer relationships (rovickie!) have no happy ending and then the main gay character is sent to a queer bar in a FANTASY of "future happiness and acceptance amongst people like him" so not even anything that we can be sure is actually real 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 they're so funny 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂die😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Genuinly so sick of this show only caring about romantic relationship, because wdym in Janes FINAL moments, she was nothing but Mikes girlfriend? Her montage before she DIES and you decide it should all be about her and Mike! What about her happy memories with Max? Hopper? Will? Lucas? Dustin? Joyce? It's so misogynestic it makes me sick.

And wdym Mikes biggest trauma is shown to be losing Jane? What about Wills body being pulled out of the water? Him almost committing? Will being posessed? His sister getting abducted? His parents in the hospital? I don't doubt a second he cares deeply about Jane but really?

And wdym for the past two seasons Lucas' entire character has been about Max? Especially season 5 where he literally had no arc outside out Max? I love lumax with my body and my soul but he derserved so much better and he had so much potential.

And wdym in season 4, Max came back when thinking of her happy memories with Lucas, Jane, Dustin, even Mike, but then in season 5, all she needs is Lucas? While it's really sweet, it just kinda dumbs her down to Lucas' girlfriend. And don't even give me started on elmax... the girl who saved her and their reunion after years is giving cousins at a christmas lunch?

And wdym Nancy has been treated as a prize to win since season 1!?

And wdym they randomly decided to bring back Steves crush on Nancy and have that be his entire character?

It’s frustrating to see people/the writers/etc. act like the disappointment with Byler is a shipping thing. This isn’t about just wanting two boys to kiss. This is about Mike Wheeler, who has been sidelined all of season 5, lacking a real arc and meaningful personal journey. This is about his poor treatment of his friends in seasons 3 and 4 never being adequately explained or resolved. This is about his personal struggles remaining ambiguous and denying him the opportunity to process his feelings in the story in a meaningful way. This is about Will Byers, a character who never thought he would fall in love, learning that if he does, he’ll get over it. This is about a character who has spent the whole show having what he wants taken from him, willingly giving up the thing he wants most. This is about a character who was shown to fall in love slowly over the course of 4 years with his best friend, the person he is closest to and most similar to, only to decide it was just a crush.

This is not about wanting two boys to kiss. This is about writing two characters who care about each other more than anyone else, who feel most comfortable and themselves with each other, having it develop into something romantic, only for it to amount to self-acceptance on one side, and a relationship built on “love at first sight” and a lie on the other.

So stop saying it’s about shipping when it’s about the impact that this writing has on Mike’s character, Will’s character, and the story that was written. There is more to Mike and Will than Byler. But Byler heavily affects their characterization and arcs whether you like it or not.

Having a queer character believe he won't find love and proving him right is not good writing.

Having a character grow up in solitary confinement and then ripping her away from the only family she's ever known to live a life of solitude once again is not good writing.

Having a character be in love with his best friend and then just compare it to a high school crush is not good writing.

Having Eleven say that Mike has always been the person who truly understood her after showing us in the previous seasons that he only sees her as a superhero IS NOT GOOD WRITING.

Having two girls be abused by a man with power for the majority of their lives only to leave them dead and alone as a direct consequence of the trauma they suffered IS VILE WRITING
