I fell out of kemeticism for awhile but I’m back on my pagan bullshit now, I only hope that the gods don’t hate me for ghosting them during my crisis of faith da;hdak
Djehuty as a trickster god
One thing that often surprises new followers of Djehuty is that he is very firmly within the category of “trickster archetype”. And surprise about this is exactly what Djehuty wants. You see, he’s a bit of a rare breed among tricksters in that he actively tries to convince others that he’s /not/ one. He bends the rules, exploits every loophole, and all the while projects this image of a serious, stuffy fuddy-dudd who would neeeeever. Underestimation is the name of the game here. Who better to trick others than the one no one suspects?
Nowhere is this better demonstrated than in one of the most famous myths about him, the origin of the Epagomenal Days. You likely know the story – Ra had forbidden the very pregnant sky goddess Nut from giving birth on any of the then-360 days of the year, and Djehuty decided to help her out. He did this by challenging the moon to a tournament of Senet, with the condition that every time he won, the moon had to give him a portion of its light. Eventually, he had enough moonlight to create five extra days for the year. Now, you should keep in mind that Senet is a strategy-based game … and Djehuty is the god of wisdom. It was practically a foregone conclusion that he would win, and the moon probably knew that too. (Although, as this story demonstrates, Djehuty is not the same thing /as/ the moon, he is very much associated /with/ the moon. So presumably this was not the first time they’d met!) How could Djehuty have possibly gotten the moon to agree to such a thing? Easy. By making sure the moon thought he had absolutely no ulterior motives, he was totally innocent, he’d probably let the moon win.
An emissary of Nebt-het reminds us that no memory is ever truly forgotten; no person is ever completely gone…
Nebt-het (Nebet-het, Nephthys) is an Ancient Egyptian goddess associated with mourning, death and the dead, protection, temples, and night/darkness. She is frequently depicted as a kite, as this bird of prey has a loud, piercing screech that sounds like a cry of mourning. She is a dedicated protector in both life and after death. May Nebt-het watch over all the people murdered by white supremacy. Black Lives Matter.
Some Sekhmet sketches, my favorite Egyptian goddess (ok I’m lying I love them all)
She gets to eat first :>
“Witchcraft is not safe. Witchcraft is not good and kind. Witchcraft is the domain of the trickster, the outcast, the wanderer, and the crooked. It belongs to those who know every light casts a shadow; who have looked into the depths of darkness in their soul and accepted what they’ve seen along with all that is good. Witchcraft requires cunning, manipulation, self-awareness, adaptable morals, and dash of madness.”
