@dizzy-boy
Mama, I don’t wanna die.
I sometimes wish I’d never been born at all.
I love this episode with Sheldon
I love you, Amy Farrah-Fowler, my self-indulgent fanfic-writing queen
Still thinking about this one tiktok comment that said smth like “the NBA would be a goldmine for rpf yaoi if fujoshis weren’t so racist” because damn they’re right
they cancelled gen v because that’s what clara would’ve wanted
My thoughts on the final season of The Boys (spoilers ahead)
What I disliked:
Soldier Boy. He had way too much of a presence for a character who ended up exactly where he started. And I really, really hated how obvious the fan service was. I know Supernatural is/was huge and the three main actors getting back together is cool and all, but for those of us who don’t really gaf about spn, it was so distracting and unnecessary and obvious. Also he feels like a strange version of forced tumblr sexy man to me.
Lack of Marie &co. I liked Gen V more than the boys, if I’m being honest, and I was so excited that the two were merging… to be fair, I kind of suspected from the start that they probably wouldnt have a huge role given the lack of advertising about it, but I at least expected more than two scenes. The cancellation of Gen V was a punch to stomach, and the lack of the Gen v characters was even worse because like - we spent two whole seasons establishing how powerful Marie is, just to completely retcon it all??
Filler episodes. There were like three episodes where essentially nothing important happened. This is the finale. What are we doing
Every single scene where Annie and/or MM vapes. So so cringe. I don’t even smoke but holy shit just give them a cigarette this is embarrassing
(Most of) Kimiko’s dialogue. I get that she learned English primarily from the internet, along with listening to the Boys talk, so I knew she would have a unique way of speaking but come on some of her lines sounded like they were written like Vivziepop. I get it was supposed to be for, like, shock value and whatever, but it got super old and grating very fast. Kudos to Karen Fukuhara - she did the best she could with what she was given.
Ryan not ending up with the Gen V kids. I'll never shut up about this. It would have been so perfect come onnnn - I did like that he ended up being adopted by MM, even if it felt a tiny bit random. I wish that he retained his powers, though (could've been cool if he was resistant to Kimiko's blast due to being a natural-born supe) - it would've made Butcher's final few decisions that much more impactful, plus I like Ryan as a character and it would have been fun to think about how he would have to live the rest of his life with the very same powers as his evil father (i.e. great material for fanfic)
This is not my own criticism, but one I wholeheartedly agree with: hated how "small" the world felt this season. As many have pointed out, we never really got any scenes that showed the widespread effects that Homelander's coup had on America/the world; they were only told to us, not shown (cardinal sin of writing. especially in television - it's a visual medium, for god's sake; use it.)
What I liked:
The two minutes we got with Marie, Jordan, and Emma
Tubthumping by Chumbawamba; been going thru hella depression lately and it’s cringe but I gotta admit playing this song on loop has helped me a bit so I have to thank the Boys for reintroducing me
The Billy Joel montage at the end; I thought it was very sweet and actually tied things up really nicely
The scene where Hughie kills Butcher - I thought it was well done, and well-acted, and the part where Hughie’s face flickers to Butcher’s little brother was a great moment. I felt like it was a very grounding scene and helped to remind me of where it all started, and I quite liked that.
The episode with Terror (I don’t have to be more specific you all know what I’m taking about). I initially thought it was gross and weird and very much filler, but looking back, it was a cool way to show what each of the Boys were going thru in that moment. It broke the mold; I have to give credit for that at least.
Ashley's arc. I know a lot of people disliked it, but I love Ashley and I thought her superpower was perfect & loved how tumor!Ashley was her moral conscious - such a good foil to Butcher. Loved pretty much every scene with her in it and thought her arranged marriage to Oh Father was hilarious. I also loved the final scene of her where she announces that she *won't* be stepping down from the presidency - cut immediately to the reporter saying she was unanimously impeached. I laughed out loud. So happy she survived; hope she finds peace and another man who likes to be dominated
(related to above) love the implication that Oh Father's death had. I don't think Ashley intentionally designed the gag to kill him; I kinda think she's genuinely just a freak like that, even while fighting her way to survive in HL's America, so the gag reflecting Oh Father's voice back into his own skull and blowing it up has some pretty bad/awesome (depending on how u view it) implications loll
(fake) Black Noir's story. It was admittedly a let down that the reveal was literally method acting, but I liked what they did with his character from there; love that they kept him morally grey by having him cause an environmental disaster just to get revenge on the Deep.
The Deep dying. Loved how pathetic he became after HL tossed him out; especially love that he was torn to shreds by vengeful sharks. happy at least one of my predictions came true
Oh Father's musical number. Im a sucker for a good musical number
Firecracker's arc. "I didn't think the leopards would eat my face!!!" so perfect.
there's more, but this is getting long and I have work, so i'll end it here.
this job market is a fucking nightmare
like actually guys you wouldn’t believe the influx of emotions I felt seeing mariejordanemma all in one frame like I was gonna cry… but no cate made me so sad too like where’s the rest of them… where are my family…. AGHHHH…
No shrine for kripke, but I did like the Billy Joel montage.
ive gotta be the most empathic person ever cause why did i genuinely feel bad for homelander
he coulda been soooo good.
also i loved how in those moments where he was begging butcher for mercy and being so incredibly pathetic, he was exactly like all the people he had degraded, tormented, humiliated and killed and whom he had looked down on.
my favs who are mentioned almost every episode but are barely in season 5 at all
I don’t like this
Billy Joel in Eurovision???? The boys truly takes over everything for me ‼️😝
Denmark had NO AI in their performance (as far as I can tell) so you know just another reason to vote Denmark!!!!!!!!!!!!! He’s also hot if that is a better motivator
