I want to share some wisdom from my high school art teacher.
In my AP Art class, there was a girl who was just starting to experiment with mixed media. At this point she was still playing around, trying to decide what direction she wanted to go with her portfolio. So one critique day, she brought in an abstract canvas with some rhinestone highlights and painted and real peacock feathers. She loved sparkles and peacock feathers so she thought she’d try introducing them a *little*. And after everyone had given some input, the teacher gave her his advice, VERY roughly paraphrased here:
“So here’s the thing… I do not like this style. These are just elements that do not speak to me personally, but I see that you like them, and you’re doing interesting things with them.
“My biggest critique is, I only merely *dislike* this piece. I want you to make me HATE it. Go crazy with the things that you like. Don’t hold back trying to make it palatable to people like me. Because I am NEVER going to like it. And if the audience does not like it, it should drive them crazy seeing how much YOU love it.”
Her portfolio was chock full of neon colors and glitter and rhinestones and splashes of peacock feathers and it was a delight. Our teacher despised every piece lol, but she got great marks and I think even won some awards. And more importantly, she was happy and proud of the results. Because she didn’t limit herself by trying to appeal to people who were never going to enjoy what she enjoyed.
Takeaway here: be as cringe as you want. Don’t limit yourself based on other ppl’s tastes. They’re not you, and you are incredible 💕

because so far, the story has been driven by niran's love for pete. he was the one to approach pete, to tell him what he could do and ask for his help. niran said pete had been calling him, but he was the one we saw reach out and ask pete, more than once, to come to him. niran was the one who stuck by pete and bound them together when pete might have been lost. niran was the one to break the jar instead of breaking pete's heart. niran's love has been as loud as his calls when sealing demons and yao.
through it all, pete's love for niran has been quietly answering. pete followed niran, gave him is trust, risking his life and soul over and over without question, calmly accepting that it's absolutely right for theirs to be tied together. niran moved into his house but pete turned it back into a home and made them a family. and when niran was lost, it was pete that called him back and swore he would do it again. pete has been loving niran in a way that seems quiet because it's always been in answer to the love niran has shown.
now that niran can't move forward, it will be pete's love driving the story forward. all the love pete has shown has been a echo of what he's been shown, but with niran trapped in silence, we're about to see just how big and loud pete's love for niran truly is.

Kids books is probably not the best way to word it, you can enjoy them at every age, including your childhood, as you get older you may find new truths in them, but they're still good for any age.
When I started Wu, I didn't care whether or not they kissed because they were new and fascinating levels of insane for me to see and that was enough.
But after finishing the series, I'm actually glad they did kiss, and more surprisingly im glad they never had sex.
There are so much that gets minimized by viewers because these epic moments are followed by intimate scenes that rather than emphasize that intensity of their emotions, creates a transactionality
The idea that risking their life and making huge sacrifices is worth it because they get something out of it that no one else does is pervasive through all media. It essentially turns sex into their rewards.
But for Niran and Pete, their is no grand prize at the end. Niran sacrificing his powers wouldn't have meant finally getting Pete in bed, and Pete didn't fight more fiercely than a demon so he could get his hands on Niran. Dying in the soul realm didn't promise them the next life together and risking the world for one to keep a promise the other didn't come from some overwhelming and uncontrollable desire.
Every crazy thing Niran and Pete did was just so the other would still exist and to simply be able to spend time together. They ask nothing else of each other. There's something beautiful about that.

Tldr Amnesty International, global human rights organisation, published a report called 'A growing threat: the anti-rights movement in the UK'. In it is detailed, amongst others, a whole bunch of transphobic groups and organisations, including Beira's Place, JK Rowling's trans exclusionary sexual violence support service. JK Rowling threw a shit fit and got Amnesty to take the report down by threatening libel. This was obviously not enough, because you can't appease a fascist, so now she's going to bankroll a bunch of lawsuits anyway through the JK Rowling Women's Fund.*
