How DM Became My Home When I Didn't Have One
By: Christina Givner, 2013-2014 CORE Member
I started Dance Marathon as an individual dancer, I can’t explain why I was drawn to DM, but for some reason it always felt right and when I walked through the doors my first year dancing I felt like I belonged. I knew from the moment the first line dance started that I wanted to get involved even more with Dance Marathon. I took my own initiative and e-mailed everyone and anyone I could about joining the CORE team. I cried when I got an e-mail saying I had the opportunity to become an Assistant for DM 2013.
If I could put into words everything this organization has done for me, there wouldn’t even be enough words in the dictionary. To me Dance Marathon isn’t something to put on your resume, but rather a way of life. It is a feeling for me; it’s the fact that I would truly go to the moon and back for this organization. I don’t know why I feel so passionate about it, but I know it’s where I belong.
When someone chants the words “FTK” or speaks anything about Dance Marathon or CMN I’m instantly brought a joy like no other. DM was the first organization that took me before I joined anything else and I think that's why I love it so much. I didn't truly feel like I had a home until I found Dance Marathon. I am now and forever will be “FTK” and it’s all because of Dance Marathon at The Florida State University. 19 years strong of standing for those who can’t.
How DM Helped Me as a Transfer Student and Why I Stayed Involved
By: Kyle Meredith, 2013-2014 CORE Member
When I first came to Florida State as a junior transfer student, I was unsure how to go about creating new friendships and relationships when I didn’t get the original “freshmen dorm room” experience that most others were able to have. I rushed a Greek fraternity, and soon thereafter, found Dance Marathon at FSU; my life has changed ever since. I’ve always been a person that takes pride in giving back to the community and helping others, Dance Marathon definitely gives you that chance! I took part in the event for the first time as a dancer 2 years ago, and seeing the Miracle families and how our fundraising money affects each one really drew me to continue to stay involved.
Because of DM, I’ve created friendships that will last a lifetime, and learned so much more about what goes into the organization of student run events, and how they can be so beneficial to our University. It’s never easy to truly understand the value of Dance Marathon until you attend the event and see everybody coming together for one cause; it’s truly a once in a lifetime thing, but for us, we get to see it every Spring! Dancing, singing, cool outfits, what could be better? Becoming a part of the CORE Board this year has been amazing, I’ve learned from so many important people about how to make this event the best we have ever seen, and we can’t wait to show you all in just a few short days!
Being a part of Dance Marathon is the best decision I’ve made since coming to Florida State, and I hope that if you’re interested, you join us this coming weekend to see what we’re all about!
We're so close! Putting the final touches on DM this week before we move into the Civic Center!
ONE WEEK until DM 2014! ONE WEEK! This is not a drill!
We are so excited for the dancers who were OFFICIALLY invited to dance today! Congratulations to you all and we'll see you at the Civic Center!
8 days until DM and we couldn't be happier! Who's ready to make miracles happen?
3rd Year Dancer Spotlight: Kevin Jimenez
With 8 days left until DM, we want to continue to honor dancers who return year after year! One great example of this dancer would be Kevin Jimenez. Kevin will be participating with Dance Marathon for his 3rd year.
When asked why he dances each year Kevin responded, “Dancing for 20 hours sounds cool, but raising money while you’re at it? Need I say more.” Kevin will be participating this year as a member of Zeta Beta Tau’s team. Thank you Kevin for participating for your 3rd year! Without people like you, Dance Marathon wouldn’t be able to function. You have helped so many kids over the years and it has not gone unnoticed! Thank you!

9 days until Dance Marathon 2014! It's seems like just yesterday we were counting down from 100!
Remember: TOMORROW is the last day to raise the $150 needed to dance! Official invitations to dance will be sent out on Friday!
