he sends out a wave of calm to the newborn – and there’s no doubt in his mind that she is just that, fresh from the change and bloodthirsty and chaotic as a bat out of hell. he sighs. “well, alright. welcome to the neighbourhood. name’s jasper. we’d prefer that you not hunt people ‘round here. all that said, i can see you’re new at this. you want some pointers, you feel free to let me know.”

a warm sensation washed over her and doused the flame of defensiveness, her body visibly relaxing. it left melike a tad confused to be honest and she looked back to the stranger, figuring he must be the cause. nothing else was around to cause it so. “jasper... well jasper.... i need to eat, and they are the only thing that stop the pain. plus they taste good so forgive me for saying i would rather not oblige”

“oh my god. that’s…” vienna winces. she can’t stop staring at the blood her friend is wiping off her own face. she caused it. and the relief at not having killed melike is fading – now vienna is just horrified that she’d done something like that, so unthinkingly. “that’s awful. i’m sorry. but why…? you really don’t know what happened? what… what caused it?” something dawns on her, and her eyes go wide. “what are you thirsty for?”

"hey, it’s alright... i’m... i’m okay i think. think it’s just a little bit of a nosebleed is all...” the newborn replied to vienna’s concern, stepping back to let her come inside if she wanted to sit down. though she wouldn’t blame her if she didn’t want to after that scare. melike swallowed down hard when she realised that she really couldn’t remember what happened, and the follow up question just made her even more nervous.

"i... i’m thirsty for blood. i don’t know why but its the only thing that seems to stop the burning for a little while...”

“suit yourself, sweetheart. i think they taste just fine.” she raises the bag of fish. “i’ve just been doing a little hunt myself. turned up some very nice specimens for dinner.” the bag is rearranged so that it is, once again, draped over her shoulder. “and i’m from algeria. been a long time, though. let’s just say i don’t exactly look my age. you’ll get used to it, if you meet more of us.”

“yeah, much prefer sticking to my current diet.... somehow animals just doesn’t sound as appealing” the young vampire hummed before raising a brow “algeria? i’ve never been there. is it nice? i hear its pretty hot over that way.”

“you’re alive. oh, thank god.” vienna would think, given the adrenaline she can feel and everything that just happened, that she would be tongue-tied and incapable of explaining anything, but she finds herself rather level-headed in the moment. “remember when i said i couldn’t be a singer? it’s because my voice does that. i’m honestly so glad you’re okay. i mean alive. i think i gave this guy an aneurysm once, when i was a kid. um, actually. are you okay? i am so so sorry, i just… i was really scared. your eyes are red.” okay, maybe she’s not as put together as she thought. but it could be worse. she’s actually stringing sentences together.

pushing her hair out of her face and wiping away the little drips of blood from her nose, melike got her bearings and tried to focus on what vienna was saying to her. seemed whatever she had done had snapped her out of her hungered stupor -for now anyway-. the burn was still raging in her throat but she didn’t want to have to go through all that pain again so she stayed cautious.

“i... i’m sorry... i don’t know what happened to me. i just.... i woke up one day and something changed... my throat burns all the time, no matter how much i drink...”

“that’s rough, buddy. whoever turned you must have been an absolute freak. a mad cunt, if you will.” hamida pauses, then shrugs off her own turn of phrase. “sorry. spent too long in australia. i’m hamida. melike’s a pretty name. what are you, turkish? anyway, don’t worry about a thing. being immortal’s not so bad.” she smiles at the vampire. “and it’s conditional immortality. just live until you get bored. lovely, isn’t it? have you figured hunting out yet? you can eat animals, by the way. i’ve heard some vampires have a fondness for bears. mountain lions. carnivores in general.”

“yeah... if i ever find out who the hell it was, i’ll give them a piece of my mind, that’s for sure” she scoffs, leaning on the nearest tree and sighing. “hamida.... that’s a nice name... where abouts are you from? and yeah, i’m from istanbul”

“animals? but they don’t taste as good....” she turns her nose up at the idea

the fear that has been building ever since she arrived at melike’s door ready to knock reaches a crescendo now. vienna is fully aware she is stuck between an unknown entity – melike – and an immovable object – the wall behind her – and all she can think to do is to shriek “stop” with all the power she has within her. it’s pure instinct, and a split second after she’s done it, after she’s come back to reality, is regret, because she’s destroyed things this way, and she doesn’t want to melt melike’s brain.

the human’s shriek rattling through her head, melike stumbled back, clutching her head and gritting her teeth to stop a yell of pain from escaping from her lips. she swore her vision went black for a moment and her nose dripped with a little bit of red. shit, that hurt like a bitch.

eventually her vision started to return, slowly fading to black spots and then returning to normality with time. she was a little disoriented too so took a moment before she registered vienna again. “w-what the hell was that?” she winced before looking back up to her with wide eyes.

“now you’re putting those vampire ears to good use. good job.” she flashes the woman a rather wolfish – pun intended – grin. “what, nobody’s graced you with a copy of the handbook for the recently deceased yet? there are more things in heaven and earth, horatio, than are dreamt of in– oh, fuck it. yes, i spend full moons as a dog. you drink blood. nobody’s perfect. nice to meet you, by the way.”

vampire. now that she thought about it, everything made sense now. why she was so thirsty all the time, why her throat was on fire constantly especially around other people. “no... nobody told me anything. i just woke up like this one day with no idea what the hell was going on.” she replied before visibly relaxing around the wolf. she seemed friendly enough. “nice to meet you too... i’m melike.”

vienna can’t shake the feeling that something has gone terribly wrong. it’s just anxiety, she tells herself, as she stands outside melike’s door, steeling herself to knock. and then she does, and melike opens the door, and vienna realizes that something is wrong, but it’s nothing like what she’d been expecting. at first she thinks melike is dressed up for halloween, but vienna knows enough about makeup to tell that this isn’t a costume. vienna backs away a few paces, and when she speaks, it is with her full voice. “what happened to you?” a bit of a leading question, but, given the circumstances, it seems warranted.

she was really here... stood in front of her. the only friend she had here in forks before whatever happened to her, happened to her. part of her mind knew that she shouldn’t want to attack vienna, but powerful insticts overwhelmed those thoughts. she couldn’t think straight. all she was focused on was the hot nectar beneath her skin.

“i’m sorry vienna....” she managed to squeak out, making her way toward her determinately.

“i am the wet dog, sweetheart.” quite literally – hamida’s just gotten back from fishing in her lupine form. it’s a lot easier to do when one can simply brave the chill of the river and grab salmon with their teeth. the bag strewn over her shoulder holds a few chinook that will be wonderful when fried up for dinner. “you know, you kind of smell like a funeral home.”

“wait, hold up... did you just say you’re the wet dog?” melike was completely taken aback, not expecting the young woman to respond with such a bizarre answer. no human ever smelt so strongly like this.... it had to be something else. “okay, say you are what you say you are.... what does that make you? some sort of shapeshifter?”

a knock on her door was the last thing that the young newborn had been expected today, so when she heard the tentative rap of knuckles on the wood of her door, melike’s attention darted over to it. she crept over to the door and slowly opened it with a creak to see who was on the other side. whoever it was certainly smelt good.

everything in melike’s body screamed at her as she opened the door and her crimson eyes settled on her friend that was stood before her. ‘bite down and drink her dry. stop the burning’ god, her throat was on fire. it was never-ending. eyes wide and solely focused on vienna’s smooth skin, she managed to utter her name softly “vienna....”

melike had been cleaning up at her cabin, making sure there wasn’t any hikers laying about willy-nilly when she caught an unfamiliar scent that made her scrunch her nose up. it was pretty unpleasant to her new senses, making her sneer as she dropped the body by her feet and looked about for the source. that was when her wine hues settled on a figure just by the pathway up to her drive. the newborn crept forward cautiously, her body tensed since they didn’t smell like any human she had encountered. no, they didn’t smell appetising in the slightest. so what were they??

“have you been hugging a wet dog or something?”

jasper hunts alone today. a calculated risk, considering how many dangers have been taking up space in forks as of late, but he’s got the home turf advantage. he’s tracking a mountain lion when he realizes that he is not, in fact, the only one hunting, and changes direction, moving toward the other vampire. the scent isn’t entirely unfamiliar. whoever this is, they’ve been in the woods for some time now. jasper’s been catching hints of it, but they’ve never been strong enough to warrant further investigation, considering how many vampires are in the area. until now. “evening, ma’am,” he says. “you new around here?” @dmeliike

life had been going fine for melike, she had all she needed here. stupid hikers to feed on, a roof over her head. she didn’t have to worry about the rent either. her landlord had come around around a week or so ago for rent and had that had been the end of him there and then. her throat was burning, and he was there. she saw nothing wrong with using him to relieve her pain, but the pain was still there, despite feeding on any poor soul that happened to pass by too close. that was why she was out again, seeking out someone else to slake her thirst. but it seemed she had company, and not human.

crimson eyes darted up to meet golden hues, her body tensed and coiled to attack if he tried anything. “you could say that....”

is that SELIN SEKERCI? no it’s just, MELIKE DEMIR. they are a TWENTY FIVE year old NEWBORN VAMPIRE and are a part of the COVENLESS. and they spend their time as a UNEMPLOYED. and people describe them as the smell of freshly fallen snow, a fierce gaze, blood under the nails, and shadowed figures in the forest at night.

melike was born in turkey and moved to america when she was a young teenager (13/14ish). she lived in various places through her teenage years until at 20 she went to follow her dream to be a singer.

unfortunately it didn’t work out as planned, and she ended up just working as a waitress to make ends meet and busked in her free time.

she only just moved to forks recently, after finding a cute little place there which was much cheaper than her apartment in the cities.

she was there for all of two week before she was caught out by a rogue vampire who had been travelling through forks by chance. she was meant to just be another a meal, but something spooked them off and she was left for dead, the other vampire fleeing the area and letting her turn by her home the midst of the forks forests.

her transformation was a long one, taking around a week for her to finally awaken to her new self. of course, she was very disorientated and confused, her instincts kicking in to seek out food.

she currently is staying in her home, and has been living off various hikers who pass on the trails. of course people are going to start noticing soon... and that wont bode well for her....
