Delphine Takes A Walk Through the Neighborhood to Observe
Delphine rolled her neck, stifling another yawn, deciding that caffeine would be the best pick me up. She had not slept well last night, for it was the first week that Project Leeda had been brought into one place. The fact that she could see who each of them had grown into and how they would interact from a scientific level now that they were all together actually caused her to bounce on the balls of her feet with excitement when she had been told. Although she had yet to meet any of them or seen much of them (she had been told by DYAD to merely observe and not interfere unless they approached her first), she still felt thrilled at the thought of watching all the new dynamics play out.
She grinned, pushing a curl back behind her ear and pushed herself out from behind her desk. Locking her leather journal (laptops have been her enemy as of late for the important sequences), in the safe behind her, she grabbed her coat and purse, leaving the lab to enjoy the outside air and the walk to her favorite coffee shop.
She pulled out her pack of cigarettes, her friend in the lab kept telling her that they’d kill her, to which she retorted that life was short and she was alone in the world so who cared, and lit it up. She ambled through the neighborhood, noting with a bit of sadness that it was practically empty, short of an employee out for a run, and a mom, whom she believed to be Alison (she could be wrong though, Delphine was keeping her distance and had only just now became privy to their files and was still learning who was who) shuttling her kids into her mini van exclaiming they’d be late for practice.
She took a long drag wondering if they all knew why they were truly here. It was then she noticed someone she had not seen before out of the corner of her eye. It was a woman with dread locks, on her phone, gesturing enthusiastically with her hands. Delphine stopped walking a moment, allowing herself to observe her. The woman was smiling, and shoved her glasses up, laughing at something someone else said on the other line.
Who is she? Delphine mused to herself, finding herself extra curious, for she was not quite like the others. But then again, from what she could tell right off the bat, none of them were.
She took another drag on her cigarette before stomping it out and continued walking to the coffee shop.
Once she arrived she pulled off her coat, ordered her expresso and pulled out her phone while she waited for it to be made. She began checking her calendar, pausing for an instant to glance around. It was slow, not a lot of people in this afternoon. However that's when she spied him. In the back of the room, she saw the clone she had seen on the first day, Tony Sawicki sitting at a back table in the corner. He glanced around to see if no one was watching him, (she was still holding her phone in front of her face, most likely throwing him off to her monitoring), once satisfied he pulled something out of his back pocket, a flask, and quickly poured whatever the liquid was into his coffee. Delphine grinned, taking a guess it was whisky.
“Delphine?” The barista called. She dropped her phone back into her purse, pulled back on her coat and went to grab the drink.
“Merci.” She said and walked out of the shop and back to her lab to finish her sequencing.
Oh yes. This was going to be interesting indeed.
