“You know I wouldn’t normally turn down a challenge but I’ve got to rest up an injury before training starts up.” Doc frowned. It killed his pride to turn down the pretty dark haired girl’s challenge but if he was going to beat Potter out for the Cup, he needed to be in peak form.

“I know I am, but you can keep saying it.” There was a soft smile, blonde locks being tucked behind her ear. “None of your business.” Narcissa folded her hands to rest in her lap, one leg swinging over the other. “I have to advance my studies and I decided charms was the way to go.”

“Mmm, wouldn’t want your pretty head to get too big.” Doc grinned. “Got it, none of my business.” Rolling his eyes, he went about his studying. “You have to?” He asked, glancing up at her for a second before looking back at the tome.

“Don’t ask, just run.”

“Hmm?” Looking up from his book he saw a wild haired girl running towards him, being followed by a stampede of Hippogriffs. “Shit!” Jumping up, he fell into step beside her. “What the hell did you do?!”

“Pass the firewhiskey, if I’m not completely intoxicated in twenty minutes you’ve failed your duty as friend.”

As soon as Doc had opened the door to his home, he knew that the Lestranges had had another miscarriage. His family had forgiven him for going into Magical Law Enforcement and Bella had slowly come back into his life. They still weren’t the same as they once were but every time she had lost a baby, she turned up on the doorstep of his modest apartment and the two would drink away their worries. Honestly, he was glad that Rodolphus was alright with their friendship and never questioned it. 

“Sure kid, I’ll summon Hattie to get the finest I have.”

“Is that a wand in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?”

Bellatrix trying to embarrass him in front of pretty girls was nothing new. He smiled at the pretty Irish girl he’d been speaking to before Bella had swooped in, hugged him and made such a silly comment. “Bella, you’re looking as lovely as ever. Have you met Miss Aoife O’Halloran? Aoife, this is Bellatrix Black of the Sacred 28. I must admit she’s usually a little more behaved than this.” With twinkling eyes he quirked a brow at Bella as if to say ‘your move’.

“Did you just hex me?”

“Hmm?” He looked up from his book, an expression of faux confusion on his face. “Hex you? Why would I do that? It’s not like you were sitting there drooling over your intended and looking like a complete fool.” A grin spread across his face. “It was only a slight stinging hex, Bella. Do get over yourself.”

“You’re freaking out over nothing.”

Doc felt as if he’d just been slapped. “Narcissa, you can’t be serious.” He deadpanned. What he’d just walked in on in their world it was... “Do you know how much trouble you could get in for this?” He couldn’t even look at her. It was like walking in on one of his little sisters with. Glancing at Heath, he fought back the hex right in the forefront of his mind. What had they been thinking? “Put some clothing on, Narcissa. You’re lucky I won’t be mentioning this to your sister.”

“That last pumpkin pastie is mine, don’t you dare.”

“Oh? You mean, you mean this one?” Doc smirked, dangling the pastie just out of her reach. “I’ll think you’ll find that I had it first soooo...” Biting into the snack he groaned at the taste. “Mmm, still fresh.”

Rolling his eyes, Caradoc stepped back from the hug. “Annnnd you’ve ruined the moment.” He teased, pulling his wand from his pocket and waving it. “I really am glad you’re feeling happier, Cissa.”

“We’re going to get caught and I am not getting detention for you.”

“You don’t look cute when you cry.” She called out after him, her head shaking ever so slightly in amusement. There were a few more notes written down, the book then being closed as the blonde shifted over to his table. “You’re welcome.” Narcissa stated with a soft smile, book being placed in front of him as she sat on the edge of his table. “Don’t say I never do anything nice for you.”

Chuckling at her call to his back, Doc sat down at the chair and opened the few books he did have on charms to help with his studying but Narcissa was once again at his side. “You are a goddess.” He gushed as she put the book down in from on him and perched on his table. “Oh, of course not. Thanks, Cissa. Just what did you need with a prescribed 7th year charms book?” He grinned, resting his elbow on the table and his chin on his elbow.

Bella smirked in amusement at his words. Most pureblood siblings that were brothers were hardly as protective as Dearborn was with his sisters. She was positive Malfoy could care less, let alone Rodolphus with his sisters. It was the way things were. They never questioned. 

“Perhaps I’ll say yes.” she told him, her coy gleam suggesting if he had to get through Rodolphus he’d most definitely have to get through her next. At his question on whether or not she was suggesting breaking the rules, Bella simply kept her eyes on his with a look completely convincing. 

“A girl like me? Never.” she said, before her actions betrayed her and she began to walk down the corridor, not waiting to see if he’d follow her or not.

Spending time with Bella was always a laugh and the Slytherin knew all the best ways to sneak around - it was handy to have a friend in the dungeons - so he wasn’t worried about getting caught. “Pitty, I could have used a bit of excitement.” He followed her, knowing full well that an adventure was on the cards.

He was perfectly comfortable walking along in silence with Bella. The two purebloods never found it necessary to speak more than they needed to.

“I have the right to be worried!”

“Do you now?” Though Doc’s tone was light, his eyes flashed in annoyance. The Black family had made their stance perfectly clear on his banishment from not only his family but their world, and their girls (at least Bellatrix and Narcissa as Andromeda had met a similar fate) were expected to follow suit. Doc didn’t have the favour of a rich uncle like Sirius and his family had cut all ties so he was more or less living each day on his ever dwindling savings. “I thought your family severed all connections with me along with my own family?” Caradoc made to cross the street, he’d be late to his job interview if Narcissa didn’t move.

“You should worry about yourself, Cissy. This is no way to live a life and you know it.”

“Blood? Are you bleeding?”

Caradoc wiped the back of his hand against his lips. “Looks like it.” He panted, his hand moving up to brush through his hair. It didn’t matter though, Narcissa was safe. He’d been walking through Diagon Alley when he’d come across the girl being manhandled by some blonde oaf. The Blacks were family friends and you never messed with family or friends of family. What he hadn’t counted on was his opponent to have such a strong right hook or the fact that he’d barely been able to hold his own. He could just here his mother now: “Fighting?! With your fists like a common muggle?!” With an annoyed groan and a roll of his eyes, he surveyed his face in a nearby store window. His eye would bruise, his nose was most likely broken (not for the first time, mind) and his lip had a large split slightly off centre. 

“It doesn’t matter. Are you alright, Cissy?”
