She had been watching his hands on her belly, but her gaze quickly meets his with his last sentence. For a moment she simply stares at him, her eyes wide as she processes what he’s said. It was one thing to commit to a relationship with someone with a child, but it was an entirely different story to offer responsibility for their child as well.

“Jack... are you sure?” she asks, her hand moving to cup his cheek. Her thumb caresses his cheek as she watches him, wondering how on earth she had gotten so lucky to have him in her life.

The laughter that erupts from him is borderline hysterical as he listens to her tell him that she loves him. “That’s a relief,” he manages when he’s gotten his hysteria under control. This is such a typical Janet thing to do, catch him off-guard with a kiss and an almost word-for-word recitation of what he was just thinking.

“I don’t know how you do it,” he muses, his thumb still moving as he closes his eyes and savors the feeling of their closeness. “I was standing there in the doorway and realized that I’ve fallen in love with my best friend and it never crossed my mind that a gal like you could ever love a guy like me.” He feels a nudge against the hand he has on her belly and the feeling makes him laugh. “Little Miss seems to approve.”

She can’t help but laugh when he does- his laugh has always been infectious, and it’s apparent that he’s just as relieved at this revelation as she is.

“It would be very hard for a gal like me not to love a guy like you,” she replies, smiling before tilting her head to kiss him again, chuckling as they both feel her daughter kick. “She’s always approved of you. She moves a lot when she hears your voice,”

He’s so caught off-guard by the kiss that he doesn’t respond immediately; he stares up at Janet in complete and utter shock, his mind racing at the fact that Janet just kissed him. When he can process the fact that his best friend just kissed him, Jack tilts his head and narrows his eyes slightly.

“Are you really sorry?” he asks, keeping one hand on her belly as he lifts the other to touch her face lightly. Pushing up so he’s kneeling level with her, Jack lets his thumb stroke her cheek and his eyes search hers before he leans in and kisses Janet.

“No,” she murmurs back before his lips meet hers again. Her hand moves to cup the back of his neck, gently holding him close as she kisses him back. Her initial moment of dread is replaced by a whirlwind of emotions, most centered around the fact that Jack was kissing her back.

After a moment she pulls back, only enough to lean her forehead against his. They’re silent for a moment before she speaks again. “I’m not exactly sure when it happened,” she starts, her fingers playing with the short hairs at the base of his neck, “But somewhere along the way I fell in love with you.”

The thought of refusing doesn’t even occur to him and he moves quickly to sit next to her on the floor, his eyes bouncing between Janet’s face and her belly. He’s fascinated by the idea of being able to feel a tiny human being moving around in her mother’s belly and as he feels the first nudge against his hands, a grin splits his face and he looks up at Janet in awe.

“She’s strong,” he says as he starts to laugh. “Just like her mother, yeah?” He takes a moment to stare up at her face for a long moment and then he focuses on her belly again, trying to track the baby’s position by the location of each kick against his hands.

She can’t help but giggle at his enthusiasm, chewing on the corner of her bottom lip as she watches him. His hands on her belly are soft and gentle, and when he looks up at her, there’s a measuredness there that she’s not sure how to read. When he looks back down at her belly, she resists the urge to run her fingers into his hair.

“Jack,” she says softly to get his attention. When he looks up, she gently hooks her finger under his chin and lifts his face up as she leans down slightly to press her lips to his. It’s a soft, lingering kiss, and part of her wants to deepen it, but instead she pulls back with a soft nervous huff. “I, um... sorry.”

She laughs before she can stop herself, though she doesn’t want to hide her emotions from the her lover. Letting herself look at her lover’s body for another moment, Sam finally looks up and meets Janet’s eyes in her reflection. “You’re definitely starting to show,” she agrees with a nod and her smile grows. “Like I said, you look beautiful.”

She moves their hands from Janet’s hip to rest on her little belly and she kisses her lover’s neck lightly. “We’ll go shopping this afternoon and you can give me a little fashion show,” she teases, unwilling to make this conversation heavy; they’ve had enough heavy emotions in the last few months to last a lifetime and she’s determined to help Janet see that this isn’t the end of the world. “Y’know, I’m very excited to watch you grow and waddle around.”

For a moment Janet isn’t sure if she’s irritated at Sam’s laugh or grateful for it. She realizes it’s the latter as she allows herself to smile a little, thankful that Sam is able to pull her out of her dark mental hole, even if it’s just a little bit. It’s incredible how intimate the moment feels, and she can’t help but smile a little more as she’s reminded why she’s so deeply in love with this woman.

“I resent the fact that you think I’ll be waddling,” she replies softly, giving her love a small, but genuine smile, “You’ll have to roll me around like the girl that turned into a blue berry in Willy Wonka.”

Faintly she squeezes Sam’s hand, licking her lips as she tries to remember exactly what happened. The terror she had felt when Richard had found them caught up in an intimate moment together was something she was never going to forget, and what had directly followed was clear in her mind. But sometime during his abuse, it started to all blur together, and Janet’s not entirely sure that she might not have passed out at some point. One thing is for certain- she’s glad it’s Sam at her bedside now, and not Richard. In all of the turmoil and chaos that her life had been for the past several months, through it all, Sam had been her rock, her constant. Every time Janet felt like she couldn’t face the changes in her life, every time she felt like giving up, Sam had been there, keeping her going and at least functioning.

Sam's been by Janet's hospital bed since the petite doctor was brought in and she's refused to move until her lover regains consciousness. She's going on two days of no sleep and she's starting to nod off when she feels a definite movement in the hand she's been grasping gently and the feeling has her up and leaning over Janet in a heartbeat. "Janet? Can you hear me? I need you to open your eyes, soul."

Everything feels foggy and distant as she slowly rises to consciousness. She hears a familiar voice, Sam’s voice, and vaguely she feels the corners of her lips tug up. But then she feels pain in almost every part of her body, and she lets out a faint groan before her eyes flutter open. Or well, one eye does anyway. The other is swollen shut.

“Sam,” she wheezes softly as she slowly focuses in on the figure hovering over her. “Heart.”

It's early - far too early to be awake and hours before the alarm is set to go off - but Sam's wide awake and finds herself watching her wife sleep; watching Janet has always been one of her favorite hobbies. Usually she's able to just watch but tonight she finds herself unable to keep her hands to herself and lets her hand roam over the tempting curve of Janet's hip.

There’s a soft grumbling as Janet feels a hand sliding under the fabric of her tank top and shorts, rolling over to cuddle into her wife’s chest, continuing her grumbling.

Sam’s known from the beginning of their relationship that children are in their future, though the tablet gives them the advantage of having a child that’s biologically part of both of them. Sam ran his plan by Jack, who confided in him that he’s taking command of the SGC and would be promoting Sam to the full-bird colonel in charge of SG-1 and that added stability prompted Sam to reconsider their time frame for children. “I’m being promoted,” he says by way of explanation. “And I think it’s time we live our lives for ourselves, not just the Air Force.”

Janet beams brightly at the news of her spouse’s soon-to-be promotion, pulling him down to excitedly press her lips against his once more. “Sam that’s great!” she exclaims as she pulls back a bit to look him in the eyes. “You’ve earned it, heart,” she adds softly, smiling as her hand slides up to rest on his jaw, her thumb caressing his cheek.

She looks into Sam’s eyes for a moment before slowly pulling him back down to her once more, this time for a slower, more deliberate kiss. Gradually she deepens the kiss as she pulls him closer, and in turn presses up into him. When they’re forced to pause for air, she barely pulls back to mumble a soft “Take me to bed?” against her lover’s lips.

“Uh, yes! What does it entail? Is there a needle involved because I don’t think I can handle getting a shot in my six when I’ve been through so much already today.”
