Alright alright, letâs all be honest here.
Sanji (or whoever she is) is shapeshifter and the only reason Bo Jingles keeps her around is because sheâs the closest thing heâll come to mythical puss.
What kind of call out ...
âYâall need to remember that Iâm old as dicks, and have no idea whatâs going on. Iâve lost control.â
At what point does drinking alone stop being a thing you do and just become a thing that's sad and borderline pathetic?
Matt sighs, shifting a little in his seat. His hand stays near his mouth, covering it as he speaks to hide the fangs. âI just⊠I just fed a few days ago, you know? Itâs gonna lead to a blood lust if I keep feeding multiple times a weekâŠâ Matt looks at their feet while he mumbles, tapping his toes inside his shoe.
After a moment, he looks up, eyebrows furrowed as if heâs thinking. âHey⊠Maybe you can⊠If you want. Maybe you could poke around in my head, see if you can push Skinner back a bit? I donât know how youâd do it, but you might be able to keep him from needing to feed, even if itâs just a day or two.â A slight hesitant streak runs over Mattâs face, and he bites his tongue a little. âJust. Be careful. The last thing we need is for him to be let out.â
Geoffâs only ever pushed people in bars, when people try to pick fights or are just too drunk to make good decisions. Weak-willed and intoxicated, itâs easy to get them to calm down. He doesnât like to cause a lot of trouble himself, and is really just trying to help. However, a sober victim is an entirely different playing field. Geoff doesnât know how well that can go; if Skinner fights, it could make everything worse. Geoff could call for help, but that might make Matt feel like a liability. Or worse, a threat.
âYeah, I can see what I can do.â Geoff offered his hand to Matt, waiting for him to make the decision for himself. Pushing can be tricky, anyway, and Geoff has to make sure he finds Skinner or heâs going to make Matt end up doing something stupid instead.
Hey Buddy | Geoff/Peake
Peakeâs mind is deep in thought as he clicks through the latest Know episode Adam and James just filmed, working on editing to get his mind off of him and Spooleâs fight yesterday and the pain in his arm.
Chop here, fix the lighting hereâŠ. Audio fix, cut cut câ ow.
Wincing, Peake adjusts his arm in the sling. He can see Geoffâs reflection in the monitor, and he swivels around in the chair to meet him. He almost knocks a picture of him and Spoole off of his desk with his bad armâs elbow, and he catches it just in time with his good hand. Just the sight of him and Spoole that happy makes his stomach turn, and he swallows back a few thoughts before meeting Geoffâs eyes.
I fucked it up. I really did.
âHey, Geoff. Whatâre you doing in here? Need some help with something?â He asks, keeping his voice even and soft, like he usually does at work. He gives Geoff a small smile at the question, shrugging his shoulders as best he can. âNothing, besides this arm. Howâre you doing?â
This close to Peake, the thought is loud, and Geoff almost calls him on it but thinks itâs best left alone, if Peakeâs not going to own up to it. Geoff keeps tabs on most peopleâs abilities, but knows that they donât always realize or remember that he can hear their thoughts, sense their pain. Geoff keeps his mouth shut most days but heâs not an idiot.
He offers a small smile Peakeâs way, looking over his arm. Whatever he did to it, it canât be fun to be sitting in the office with it slung up like a useless piece of equipment. âIâm fine. Came over to see someone about something.â Heâd forgotten why he was in the office in the first place. Stupid.
âWhatâd you do to your arm?â
âYeah, this is a lot better than the mines,â Matt admits, following Geoffâs hand around the room. This⊠All of this. Matt never thought heâd ever have a family, find love. Sure, he has the other undead members who roam the Earth, those who call themselves the âBrootherhoodâ. But Matt never really followed them, even less so now. Now he has a real family, ones who donât kill for sport. A real bed to fall into at night, a real person to hold while they dream.Â
âItâs almost too good to be true,â He whispers, just under his breath. Clearing his throat, he turns back to Geoff and gives him a soft smile. âSorry. I, uh. Got lost in my head.â An awkward laugh leaves him, and he drains the coke before tossing it in the small trash can by his feet. His stomach growls, and Matt slaps it before looking back at Geoff. âDonât worry, Iâm not gonna attack you. Iâve got a blood bag in my fridge.â He thumbs towards the Editor office, his lips pulled back to reveal a sharp-toothed smile. His hand quickly flies to his mouth, and Matt would blush if he could. âS-Sorry.â Fucking Skinner. Back, back! Not now!
Geoff watched him, seeing the distant look in his eyes. Usually, heâd be able to see what they were thinking, hear the musings in their head but itâs just ... silence. He wondered if this is what everyone felt like around other people and the thought makes him uneasy.
Itâs nerve wracking not knowing what someoneâs thinking.
Matt turns back to him and Geoff was going to laugh him off when the other man panicked a little. The sudden switch gave him whiplash, and he sat up a little straighter. âDonât worry about it, we all have our ... appetites.â He almost said âvicesâ, but itâs not a vice if you need it to survive.
Hey Buddy | Geoff/Peake
Back in the Funhaus office, once again Geoff was left with nothing to do. Lawrence made fun of him; said he was just acting like a boss, but honestly Geoff had so many people working for and with him that he didnât have anything to do but stand around, drink, and look pretty. Everyoneâs clicking away at their computers, eyes scanning screens and Geoff catches a look at Matt Peake.
A pretty quiet guy most days (mostly when Geoffâs around, it seems), but Geoff knows when somethingâs up. And itâs not just the mind-reading thing, heâs an excellent judge of character; when youâre that dead behind the eyes and youâve got a bad arm, somethingâs up.
Geoff drags one of the chairs over to Peakeâs desk, sitting down with his back to the manâs monitor. âWhatâs wrong, buddy?â
"Superhero" Training | Meg/Geoff
âI donât think I am.â Meg agreed, her smile coming back again. It was small, but obvious. She let her hand hang int he air for a moment, just above Geoff;âs and short of making actual skin-to-skin contact. âIâve, uh, never used my powers for long before, so please donât be freaked out if my body does something weird. I know my eyes change colour immediately anyway, but Iâm not sure if other things may happen the longer I go or not.â
Then she dropped her hand and took a hold of his.
Geoff knew it was weird using your powers to their full extent, using them for a long time. It was hard, if you werenât used to it. The first time Geoff ever pushed anyone, he thought he was going to throw up. The first time heâd really used any of his powers to their limits, he did throw up. He was open to her when she grabbed his hand and the transfer was immense.
He could feel her brain searching his, then gone. The feedback made his head pound, and he closed his eyes until she finally pulled away, the noise dying down some. He opened more to her, trying to search for what she stole from him.
âYeah, all the time,â He says with a soft roll of his eyes. âBut I worked in coal mines and in dark areas for most of my life: I barely saw any tech come to life. Sure, I remember some of it, but barely even at that.â Matt explains, his long hands aiding his speech. âSteam boats, and then electrical motor boats were both cool. Same with the lightbulb. But video games, man, thatâs where it flourished.âÂ
Laughing, Matt gets up to grab himself a Coke from the fridge. He cracks it open as he sits, taking a long sip. Once his throat is wet, he continues. âVideo games were⊠amazing. You probably remember when they first started, but holy shit, it was so cool just goinâ into a pizza place and seeing a fuckinâ arcade machine. I⊠Yeah, sorry. Iâm ranting.â Matt laughs, taking another swig from the red can.
Geoff would be lying if he said he wasnât interested in immortality. Everyone had thought about it once or twice. Geoff didnât think he could actually do it; the old manâs too social, too into people. He couldnât take generations of death around him. Hell, he didnât handle a single lifetime of death well.
He shrugged, laughing with Matt. âNo, itâs cool. I mean, yeah, I remember video games starting, getting cooler. Shit I had when I was a kid is nothing compared to what we have now but fuck.â Geoff laughed again. âIâm sure itâs nothing from watching cave walls to this.â He gestured around them.
Geoff listened to him ramble, sipping on his drink as Matt talked. There was definitely something strange about staring at someone he was physically older than and hearing him talk about the Civil War on a personal level. Geoff pushed the thought away, trying to refocus on what he was saying.
He'd done a little time in the Middle East, knew that it was actually very boring, and he laughed. "People glorify it but you start bringing it up and they want nothing to do with any of it." Not that Geoff had really suffered or done hard time but hell, he had seen some things that you can't unsee.
"I bet people ask you all the time how cool it was to see the turn of the century, the rise of technology, all that."
"Superhero" Training | Meg/Geoff
Geoff shrugged gently, still smiling at her. "I can keep you from doing anything too terrible. I don't think the power changes too much in transfer, so anything you get I know how to handle."
Not an outright lie. Geoff's usual way of handling the power was by way of drinking heavily, but the point remained. He knew how to deal with his powers sober, and he wasn't going to let anything bad happen to her.
"That is, if you aren't opposed to being pushed."
"Superhero" Training | Meg/Geoff
Geoff had texted Meg to meet him in a kind of secluded spot at the park. Since neither of their powers manifested ohysically, they were pretty safe out in the open. Geoff kept himself open just in case, faint voices and peaceful thoughts in the distance. It almost startled him out of his skin when he felt the familiar mind rush in at full volume, eyes wide and a little panicked when he found Meg.
He wiped the startled look from his face and smiled at her, waiting for her to get within earshot before saying, âFirst lesson, everything has a feel to it. A color, a taste, a sensation. Sometimes you donât have time to identify who, just what.â Geoff knew the Huntersâ energy by heart, could probably locate any of them in the city if he wanted to.
He offered out his hand to her. âGo ahead.â
Geoff laughed with Matt, shaking his head at him. Sometimes the kid could be funny. Who knew. He pushed up from the chair and carefully walked back to the cabinets, pouring himself some more Jack and grabbing one of the Cokes out of the fridge.
He sat back down, obviously more relaxed this time. Between the alcohol and Matt's silence, he's feeling a lot better. "I mean, no war is civil, is it? Seems dumb to call it that anyway."
When you get the Green Star and win at Mario Party 8 against your friends
It hadn't occurred to Geoff that Matt would feel him picking around in his head. The affirmation startled him and he laughed in his fear. "I'm sorry it's just ..." Geoff had never been too big on Burnie's rules and regulations. He'd always done what he wanted, made his own boundaries with people.
The buzz around Geoff is positive, not fearful or angry, so he relaxed a bit, smiling comfortably back at Matt. "It's strange to be in your head. I know there's something going on up there I just can't," he hesitated, then continued, "I can't get to it. It's very frustrating."
Geoff sank into one of the seats as well, head bowed low as Matt poured him a drink. He hadn't even agreed to it, well, out loud. He didn't think. He couldn't remember, honestly. He took the drink gratefully, throwing back the entire glass in one solid drink. He popped an ice cube into his mouth, crunching on it for a second.
"If I were having a stessful week, I'd already be drunk." Okay, that was a fucked up plan. It was true, though, and Geoff knew that everyone knew it. Everyone had their own ways of coping with their powers. Well, anyone with serious disadvantages.
Geoff finally glanced up at Matt, grateful for the silence for once. Usually it unnerved him. Matt was alive to him, walking, talking, person. But when Geoff tried to pry, there was only the low buzz of consciousness; the same buzz he got around animals. "Thank you for the drink."
