Just got back from the goodwill and I still can't believe what I found:
Behold! An honest to goodness physical copy of My Immortal!
I didn't get a picture, but I opened it up and, yep, exactly what it says on the tin. I had no idea there were physical versions in print. I didn't end up getting it (I unfortunately currently have far more books than bookshelf space), but I absolutely will be thinking about it forever.
THE SACRED TEXTS
*guy who doesn't know anything about sports and has never cared about sports in his life* hey did you know womens professional baseball is returning after 70 years and the games are going to be streamed for free on youtube and the season starts august 1st

Our time is now. The inaugural season of the WPBL begins August 1st, 2026.

I think this is so cool and it's awesome they're streaming games for free! I also think it's incredible that this picture is the one they used to advertise the opening day. It's like those videos where someone threatens the camera while their partner shows off their collection of rocks they found.
Ohhhh boy finally I’m finished with this bad boy. This is for @plaidshirtjimkirk ‘s @oldmarriedspirk Challenge! This of course takes place before Spock returns to the Enterprise in TMP, and if it’s not entirely clear it’s a slight twist where Spock does in fact seek Bones’ advice for how to approach the Unfuckening he caused between TOS & TMP.
The format and coloring was largely inspired by Tongari’s 25 Lives, which is one of my absolute favorite comics and pieces of writing, like, ever. :) I think it’s so beautiful and it inspires me so much every time I come across it/an incarnation of it. Please check it out!
I really enjoyed working on this, but more than anything now I’m pleased to get it out into the world so I can stop worrying about it LOL. I hope you enjoy reading it! Thank you to my babes @nomical @beacorominas & @onedamnminuteadmiral for their eyes and ears and words of encouragement! <3 (Bigger and clearer version here.)
i don't remember what originally inspired me to start on this gramophone girl, but recently i found her in my wip folder and decided to finish the project. also finally got a chance to test this shiny copper filament and i love how it looks.
being an executioner used to be an inherited job. imagine dealing with teen angst and also job shadowing your dad the town’s torturer
I was actually going to have an "Umm actually" moment, and I had to check: executioners did double as torturers in the Middle Ages, more often than not.
You also had to remember that being the town executioner and torturer meant you were the town outcast as well, leaving you with nice side jobs as removing animal carcasses or cleaning latrine pits. Throw that on top the teen angst too!
And think of the dating prospects, did they just marry the daughters of other outcasts?
Yeah, pretty much. They were that perfect "everyone hates them but they do the job no-one else will do" group.
I recently read an article about executioners in feudal Japan. They were under the same sort of societal discrimination as in the west, with designated families plying the trade.
But because Japan transitioned from a feudal society to a modern nation state comparatively late (the second half of the nineteenth century), these families are still known and their members still face discrimination in things like hiring and dating.
As of European executioners there were three options regarding marriage:
Members of other "undesirable" professions. The executioners usually had close ties with undertakers, for obvious reasons.
Executioner families from various cities married between each other. Some of those marriages were quite international.
Less often, people ended up in the profession due to various circumstances. For example Charles Sanson (1658–1695), the first "Monsieur de Paris" of the Sanson line, that held the office for seven generations until 1847, and great-grandfather of Charles-Henri Sanson (1739-1806), the man who executed Louis XVI, Marie-Antoinette, and Robespierre; was a military man, who for some reason ended up marrying the daughter of the then executioner of Paris, and took over his trade.
Speaking of the Parisian Sansons, there's a beautifully illustrated (at times a little bit psychedelic) and very interesting manga titled Innocent, which follows the family's fictionalised history, especially during the final years of the Bourbon Monarchy and the French Revolution.
Gotta love the usage of social media and other anachronisms to showcase Marie Antoinette's isolation in the chapter, when she comes to Versailles
So that's what the well dressed skeleton picture is from. Dammit man....I might just have to pick this up now. I've not seen anything so utterly up my alley in a while...
@irishironclad
Gunna once again shout out a favourite historical piece of literature. Although Franz seems specifically well suited to this job so he should be seen as an outlier. You don't get much of internal thoughts from him except when it counts
randomly getting intensely interested in some bullshit like
some wips of my newest project!
this one will have hair, maybe a cape of some sort, and possibly mechanical wings, but i'm not quite sure how i'll approach any of those things, so i'm posting her as she currently is. i've really enjoyed doing projects that involve both making the base sculpt and a fair bit of post-printing customization, and painting & adding details to this doll was mega fun to spend my weekend on. the sculpt itself just kind of happened; couldn't exactly tell you why she is a steampunk violin demon girl, except that it was what i found fun in the moment.
how it feels to read 85 pages of a book in one sitting
lost media is awesome. the way lost media is found ranges from "it was found while looking at commercials on youtube" to "we found the fucking workprint for hoodwinked featuring the original lost audio in a thrift store for seventy five cents"
