Even though it was never actually confirmed, I always figured that the parents The Truth knew all along. Cause falling down the stairs leaves bruises that you certainly don't need an autopsy to see. They were scared fifth graders, not cover up experts. Soooo parent/guardian headcanon time!

It's not unusual for parents to split after a child passes, even if they have other children. But Sunny's father is convinced that something is fundamentally wrong with his son and him wanting to get Sunny committed or otherwise sent away was the last straw in the marriage.

Sunny's mom is low-key convinced that she can love the trauma out of her son but she's always been kind of a mess. So her attempts to show him extra affection while managing her own grief, job and new home are often well meaning but clumsy to downright manipulative. She's trying her best but she is really, really struggling.

Basil's Grandmother knows. And the decision on whether or not to tell her put another enormous strain on Sunny's Parents' relationship.

Both guardians then had to have a very difficult conversation about whether it's dangerous to let Sunny and Basil remain friends.

Sunny's father and Basil's grandmother decided it was best for the boys to maintain some distance from each other. Sunny's mother never agreed to it, but she never disagreed either, she just simply stopped talking to Grandma after that.

Polly doesn't know and it's likely no one will ever tell her either.

Kel and Hero's parents don't know The Truth but have always had an inkling that there was more to the story. Still, they're too wrapped up in themselves to really think on it. They'll never know unless Kel or Hero tells them.

Basil's Grandmother really wasn't that old, she was just in very poor health.

All the kids' parents and guardians used to be very close. After all, they had to trust these people to be around their kids. However after Mari Died, they all gradually drifted apart.

Kel's mother just seems...lonely.

Sunny's father still calls on holidays, but neither he or Sunny really look forward to it.
