other superheros get training from their mentors, from the super secret society, from alien tech, from the monks or they have some kind of military background.
phantom, on the other hand, got training from the firefighters in his town after he crashed on their cases one too many times and they decided that "yup, if your gonna try to help, might aswell give you some training so you could be useful.", he got training from the paramedics because they were worried he wouldn't know how to help an injured human, he got training from his local town detective who smokes too much and gives him cookies when he can help with his Ghost senses and figure out if this was a human crime or a ghost crime.

20th march, mass Tumblr log off in protest of the reblog update
Remember when we threatened a mass log off to get rid of shapes.inc and then all the shapes.inc ads mysteriously vanished? yeah, let's do that again. On the 20th of march 2026, we tumblr users will log off in protest of the split notes on reblogs. Spread the word!! Reblog!! Tag your moots!!
Side note: tag yapping doesn't seem to count as an addition to the OG post, you can use that to carry out conversations.
Tumblr is rolling out a new reblog/notes system that completely disregards creators. In their new system, they're taking a twitter-style approach where reblogs will have their own notes that DO NOT contribute to the original post's notes.
Because of this, creators will no longer be able to see an accurate display of likes/reblogs/etc. This is completely altering the way feedback and responses to works are going to be received on this website.
If you come across a fan work that you enjoy, please take the extra step to go to OPs original post, and leave your comment/like/reblog there. Or go one step further and send an ask to OP directly to tell them what you liked!
I really hope Tumblr staff reverses course and reverts to the original reblog system for the sake of the large base of creators who use this site to share their works, but until then, please be considerate and make sure the creators here see/feel the love.
I wanted to write about dunkinberry but I had no plot idea. In dire situations such as these, there is only one solution: projecting.

“I don't know how to love.”
Dennis never really had meaningful relationships in the past. Yes, he had crushes and a girlfriend in middle school, but he was 13 and had never experienced true and serious relationships before. At least, outside of friendships.
He's never told anyone about how that bothers him. When he and Trinity talk about relationships, he acts as confidently as he can, trying to appear nonchalant about the concept. “Relationships can be troublesome. I don't want to rush it.”
And it's true, he doesn't want to rush it. But also, he wants to love. Dennis wants to know what it feels like to really fall in love with someone and be loved in return. All around him, he sees people getting together. He sees Trinity exploring new kinds of vulnerability with Yolanda. He watches soft interactions shared in the brief moment between the day and night shift change, with Robby and Abbott.
He sees the new nurse student, Emma, blushing while talking with Joy. He watches as Victoria gets all out of breath every time she has a conversation with either Mateo or McKay. Dennis sees all of it, all around him, and does his best to ignore it.
He doesn't want to feel this way, for his heart to constrict at the thought of never experiencing this soft and warm feeling. He feels late, like he's falling behind. Dennis is under the impression that, as a 27-year-old, he is supposed to at least have a girlfriend or boyfriend. Even if not for a serious relationship.
It's like everyone decided they would be settling down now, while he has to watch all alone on the sidelines.
“It’s not exactly something you learn. There’s no guideline to it, it just…happens, you know?”
Trinity had spent a good amount of her time keeping herself from loving. She is well aware of all the harm that can come with exposing yourself fully to someone. She tried, with friends and partners alike. She had forced herself into a heterosexual relationship, believing that girls were just a phase, something she could use to spite her parents.
She had revealed herself completely to a man who promised her all sorts of wonders, who took it in himself to “teach” her the ways of the heart. Trinity, sweet and innocent, full of love and so willing to give herself to this man—much older than her—had to pay the price for it. In the form of her best friend.
She had promised herself never to love again, and maybe she developed a bit of hatred towards men. So, she was surprised at how easily she gave herself to Yolanda. The older woman made it so easy; she made her feel so safe and loved. Trinity had, obviously, a hard time letting down her guard. Yolada understood, even when Trinity didn’t—couldn’t—explain why.
Even with Dennis. She had to learn how to live with him, not only because he is her roommate, but because he is a man. It was a learning curve. Ten months ago, they were both tense around each other; nobody was willing to let their guard down around the other. Now, they’re inseparable, in the way a dog and a cat who were raised together would be. They’re a package deal. She never thought this sad man would become her substitute brother.
She had to relearn love, see that it could be safe, warm, and good. Not just for romantic relationships, but also for platonic ones. She had to let herself be seen by people who would have been considered a threat to her in other times. Dr. Robby and Dr. Abbott, for example, quickly became a very important part of her system as soon as she allowed herself to let them in.
Trinity is proud of her progress; she is proud of the woman she became. She is happy where she is. She is loved, she is safe. She found her system.
“I just wish I could understand it."
Dennis sighs, closing his locker, and Trinity is already waiting for him. They had a long shift, lots of emotional displays. Someone, a teenage girl, came in with a gunshot wound. A cruel reminder of their first day. Dennis is almost sure that Robby disappeared midshift somewhere, probably needing a bit of air. Maybe also of heights. All he knows is that he saw him come back when a particularly important influx of trauma came in, some car accidents.
They’re both very tired and very happy to see the nightshift take over. Dennis looks over at the nurse station, looking for that one attending. The one who sparked the doubt over his ability to love. Dr Shen. He’s talking to Lena, the night shift charge nurse, he’s smiling with that little corner smirk of his, a cup of coffee in his hand. Dennis is sure he’s never seen the attending without some Dunkin coffee.
It’s always in his hand, from the beginning til the end of his shift. This makes Dennis wonder how many cups he has in one shift, how he always has the time to get more of them, if he has to order them already cold to avoid the taste of a coffee gone cold, or if he doesn’t care as long as it’s caffeine.
His thoughts are suddenly rudely interrupted by Trinity snapping her fingers in front of his face.
“Earth to Dennis, you with me?”
Trinity looks at him with an annoyed and tired expression. Clearly, the woman wants to go back home and throw herself in bed and stay in it for the foreseeable future. Or, up until her alarm goes off. She absolutely does not want to stay in this hospital for more than she has to.
Dennis blinks at her a few times before shaking his head, gesturing towards the exit as an indication that he’s ready. Both doctors are currently unable to properly communicate like normal human beings anymore.
Here’s what I think the Whittaker-Santos household would look like. Just warm tones, all the maximalism, and plants that huckleberry begged santos to let him bring into the house. They got all their furniture either from thrift stores or curbs.
Dennis and Trinity would browse rich people's Zillow listings and try to sell one another the dumbest and most expensive houses known to man. After a miracle of a day where no one dies, they decide to bring their little hobby to one of the park hangouts. Everybody gets super into it, until Abbot and Robby stop by to say hello, and Robby says, "Hey, I moved out of that house last year!"
Safe to say, the rest of their night is spent laughing at Robby's terrible taste in home decor and looking at pretty houses they could never buy.
(Santos starts leaving Robby dumb knick-knacks at his desk for his house.)
I want ya’ll to just imagine something with me. (Disclaimer I need to watch season two so please no super big spoilers)
So in season 2, Whitaker makes a bet on what the code black is, what if he wins? Idk if the pool is huge or not, but let’s assume it is.
So Dennis has got a shitload if money now, and he’s got no idea what to do with it.
Does he pay Santos for rent? Hell no, Trinity would not let him.
Does he buy something reasonable? Also no.
Instead, he buys tiaras for himself, and every single woman on the ED staff. And I mean ALL OF THEM.
Of course, the girls all friggin love thier pretty tiaras (because Huckleberry has zero idea on what makes a good crown, Santos helps to buy all of them)
A few of them wear the tiaras on the regular, but most keep them at home for fear of breaking or ruining them.
Whitaker gets nicknamed ‘little prince’.
Later on, he ends up getting crowns for Mateo, Shen and Langdon because they felt kinda sad they didn’t get one.
Jack bought a crown for himself because he wanted to join in on the fun.
When Robby comes back, everyone decides to wear thier tiaras to work (including Whitaker), and Robby’s confused as to why most of his colleges are wearing tiaras and calling one of his protégés ‘little prince’
Whitaker also bought a crown for when Robby gets back, and he’s crowned ‘King of the ER’ when they get off shift. Someone brought a ceremonial sword and everything.
Keep in mind, I’m writing this just after taking my sleep meds.
What if Trinity Santos was a witch?
She fully realized her powers a few weeks after her friends demise, and dove head first into researching both magic and medicine, hoping one day, she would find something to let them speak one last time.
She ignores the fact that if a soul has already moved on, it’s impossible to call them back to the living realm. She pushes herself and her magic well past her limits, and chose do become a doctor to at least put some of her research and abilities to use, even if she can’t see her friend.
Then, Trinity meets Dennis Whitaker.
He was so obviously a witching that it hurt her soul. Hell, she had to cover up a magical outburst to prevent their attendings from realizing and blowing both their covers.
But when she drags the Huckleberry to an empty room to ask why the hell he doesn’t have his magic under control yet, the guy bursts into tears.
He explains that his family had disowned him for a number of different reasons, and the top two were his sexuality and his magic.
And goddamnit, his life was way too tragic to be hearing about sober and at work, so she tells him to shut up, offers him both a room at her apartment and magic lessons.
And for a while, things are good. Trinity has a new magical sidekick in the form of a sad gay witch, a hot hookup that doesn’t mind when she makes the house decor float when she’s exited, and movie nights every weekend because none of her fellow pittings have seen Hocus Pocus aside from her.
And if she gradually stopped looking for a way to drag her best friend back from the dead, it’ll stay between her, her grimour, and the dead.
In a bout of inspiration powered by nothing but The Pitt and Girl Scout Cookies, I ended up making these logos!
I imagine Pokémon would wear vests, collars, arm cuffs, and a whole bunch of other clothing items to display these patches. The PTMC one would allow Pokémon to free roam around the hospital without having animal control called on them, and the offical looking governmenty-one is proof that a Pokémon has obtained an SHC.
I made these logos using https://www.designevo.com, and if you've got no clue what I'm talking about but think it sounds interesting, check out the Masterlist to the AU where my friend and I mashed together Pokemon and The Pitt!
