Been trying Don't Starve Together with a friend, and the way the characters run reminds me of Buddy Thunderstruck.
Happy Valentines day! I had to celebrate by going back to my roots on here and draw my OTP once again! I also experimented with having alt versions without the text for once.
Not overthinking the caption today! Just dropping this poster for my fanfic — because why not?
I thought for a long time about what to write under this post... Well, this is already the fourth version. Anyway, speaking about this picture, where Darnell is in the clothes of a 20th-century French police officer, I must note that it's a reaction to my deep doubts about the sincerity of my own words. I keep thinking, "Do I really love this, or has it been imposed on me?" Recent events have prompted these reflections. This image... you know, I create collages, paint pictures, and compose stories precisely about what I lack. And the image of the police officer, like the image of Darnell himself, is a reflection of my searches, my doubts, and my fidelity to my own desires and ideals
I'm rewriting this post for who knows which time, and I ran into a question while thinking about a comment for the collage: "What does Buddy Thunderstruck mean to me personally? Why can't my brain live without these two and the whole small town?" You know, I've been thinking about this ever since I got to know the series. Over 9 months, I've rewatched it 3 times, and this winter I plan to watch it again. I don't know. I mean... I just don't know. Every time I try to explain it, it comes out somewhat clumsy and incomplete. After learning the Buddy Thunderstruck opening, I often catch myself humming it under my breath. I think that's enough to understand this collage.
I noticed that everyone liked the collage where Darnell was sitting at the kitchen table... It honestly surprises me. If you'd like, could you tell me why that piece stands out so much compared to the others? Well, okay, never mind that. I recently watched Chantal Akerman's short film "La Chambre" ("The Room"), and it fascinated me. I don’t understand how she can turn something so ordinary, even mundane, into something so beautiful... Anyway, soon I want to write a vignette titled "Still Life," which will be part of the fanfiction. On TikTok, I called it "Dinner at Lunch," though it’s actually a still life. It’s also inspired by Brodsky.
I heard from another artist words that said an artist cannot create without attention. As if it pains them to be without recognition. To be honest, being in the Buddy Thunderstruck fandom makes me feel like I'm performing Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" alone on a huge stage. There are two people sitting backstage watching me, and in the auditorium, which has seats for a thousand, there are barely ten people sitting in the balcony. My voice may change, it may warp, like it did now when I saw a French hint in Darnell, when I think and think, but I hope I can affirm my love in this world. If I don't think about Buddy Thunderstruck, then who will? Even if I didn't attract a single viewer, I would still post my work, because that's the kind of person I am
I'm very amused by this quirk of mine: every time I read a book, I get sleepy, and I end up falling asleep. So, unfortunately, I can't read books properly. Many works of art have influenced me; in many, I saw myself; many comforted me, and some taught me. My favorite childhood fairy tale is "Cipollino" — my mother often read it to me when I was a child. Among modern figures who influence me now, I can single out three: Marilyn Monroe, Buddy Thunderstruck, and Dante Alighieri
Meet Darnell Fetzervalve! Couldn't sleep, so I spent the night learning the program and brainstorming ideas. This is what happened. P.S. I've now got the Buddy Thunderstruck opening down pat!
Buddy thunderstruck and Darnell Fetzervalve
Sometimes I wonder, what other stories could have existed for Buddy Thunderstruck and Darnell Fetzervalve? What if their story hadn't ended so soon? How would their lives have unfolded? Oh, it's heartbreaking how many wonderful stories are missing, all because the show is known by so few people. I recently watched Buddy Thunderstruck for the third time this year, and every time it feels brand new. I pick up on new details and find new explanations for their behavior and their world. I'd love to create, to write a story about them that could capture at least a part of the original's spirit. Because to me, the original is pure genius.
For me, Darnell Fetzervalve has a strong connection to New York.
