Hello fellow dog lovers, my name is Canis, I’m 25, I’m a Wolfdog (Specifically Pyrenees and Grey Wolf) Therian, and my pronouns are it/its!

Frankly, I wasn’t planning on making any kind of an intro post. I didn’t expect anyone to like. Look at this blog? But people have been enjoying it I think, so I might as well, right?

If you ever wanna just talk dogs, get to know me, ask for dog advice, feel free to shoot me a DM or an ask! And of course, please feel free to submit your dogs so I can take a gander at what breed they are! I’m not always right, but I try my best, and if you ever think I’m wrong in one of my identifications, I take criticism!

If you need Dog Maintenance Advice, please also feel free to send an Ask or a DM. I know it’s somewhere on the blog but I am a professional dog groomer and a former dog trainer, and while I’m a bit out of practice training wise, I know how to take care of a pup’s coat.

Hi! This is my doggo:

We know her mom was a mix of german shepard and chow chow, but have no idea what her dad was. Can you please help?

I am so sorry for getting to this ask so late, I’m just now getting around to clearing out my ask box after a kerfuffle with Tumblr being stupid and refusing to show me any asks. Onto the wuppywog! I’m a bit surprised to hear that she’s got any chow chow in her, but thats probably because the German shepherd traits are definitely more dominant in both coloration and in a lot of her shapes- though I can definitely see a bit of that chow in the shape of her chest and torso. With the white patches, I wouldn’t be surprised if she had a bit of Australian shepherd in there, honestly, but this one is definitely tough. I would assume theres at least a little Aussie in there, maybe a bit of lab or Anatolian shepherd? This one’s tough, honestly- definitely an odd mix of breeds to pick apart! My final guess is gonna be German Shepherd and Chowchow (ofc), with a bit of Aussie and a little lab (mostly based on the shape of the paws, as size could be attributed to GSD).

She’s absolutely beautiful, and her coat looks very well maintained! You’ve got a lovely pup.

Came across this blog and started wondering if it could help me find out what my late dog actually was.

This is JoJo! My parents always had assumed she was a rottie/beagle/chow mix, but I'm not so sure as she never had any DNA tests done.

Alrighty, first, my sincerest apologies being as late as I am answering this, Tumblr has been choosing not to give me any notifications for this blog, and so I never saw the ask. Now, onto the doggo! To me, Jojo looks like she definitely had some rottie in her. Chow, I’m nt really seeing, but the rottie is very clear to me in the build of her face and her patterning.

Based on what I can see of her size, and the light dappled pattern on that white paw of hers, I’d say beagle is a pretty likely mix, albeit a bit of an odd one all things considered, but with the shape of that snout, I could also see a bit of American Foxhound in there. Now- that being said, most hounds have a head shape like that, so take that with a grain of salt. My final verdict, I think your parents were at least partially right about her breed makeup- Rottweiler and Beagle do look to make the most sense to me, but she could also very well have been a super mutt with those being the two breeds that displayed the most traits.

Overall, Gorgeous girl, and I’m sorry for your loss. Even in blurry photos you can see how much she was loved. Thank you for sharing her with me.

This is a basset hound! I don’t know if this color pattern counts as lemon and white or tan and white, but he’s still a basset.

This dog desperately needs his nails done, and he could probably do with losing a couple pounds, but he’s also very clearly an old man, which means he’s lived a full life, so it’s nothing I would be to concerned with if I’m honest.

Sivi is retired from nose work, but he got a turn last night bc Tyche is still recovering from her cold. One of the main reasons he is retired is because he LOVES to lie. He thinks it is very funny if he manages to trick me, and to him that is way more rewarding than actually finding the hide.

Oh my goodness gracious what a beautiful Silken Windhound! His coat looks so healthy, he’s such a gorgeous boy-

I always love seeing Silken Windhounds. Despite my love of livestock and herding breeds (and my desire to have a standard poodle that I can one day show), Sighthounds, and particularly Silkens, are another one of my favorites. I think they’re incredible dogs, and I think they’re incredibly under appreciated.

I have not had the joy of meeting a silken in person, but from everything I’ve seen, they seem like such pleasant little creatures.

Anyway-

This dog is gorgeous. His coat is well maintained, he’s clearly receiving the sort of enrichment he needs, and he’s got such a personality to him. I want to be his friend and let him tell me new and fun ways to lie to people.

This is a short haired Dachshund, most likely older judging by the grey in his muzzle.

He has very kind eyes, and while the position of his feet when he stands can be a sign of bad breeding and bone health issues, you can tell he is loved because of the apple in his mouth and the shirt on his back.

This is actually an AI dog. This very particular shor of this dog is AI and this "prompt" has been used as an AI meme countless times. In one it changes to batman, in the other it walks away on it's hind legs.

Hello fortunately that's not true, the dog in the photo has been on the internet for over a decade now, the earliest example I could find was April/22/2013 on imgur the original title is

However the dog has been used for AI prompts, the same way someone a little while back took photos of the POV of rescue dogs training rescuing and putting them in a AI prompt to make them "cuter"

This is an AI photo that stole the original photo, I can't find the direct source but the earliest source i could find, is November 28 2025

There are multiple dogs in the meme! I’m going to identify. All of them. To the best of my ability!!!

Starting from top left and going right and so on- First dog is a Yellow Lab! Second dog is most likely a mix of some sort, probably Rough Collie and Cattle dog! The third dog is a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever! Fourth dog is probably a Yellow Lab Pit Mix (based on head shape and fur length), fifth is a Golden Retriever, sixth is a Dachshund, and last is yet another Yellow Lab!

All of these dogs look happy and healthy, and they deserve the best sticks in the world!

This toothy little creature looks like a silken windhound to me, or a borzoi- the up close angle makes it a bit difficult to tell, but it’s definitely a sighthound!

Those are some clean teeth she’s got, and some healthy looking gums, which is good! Honestly from what I can see this pup overall looks healthy!

Be sure to avoid her maw during feeding, if she develops a taste for human flesh we might all be totally fucked.

These two beautiful dogs appear to be German Shepherds! They could be GSD husky mixes based on the shape of their ears and the texture of their coats, but I would assume they’re just GSDs.

They’re gorgeous, with neatly trimmed nails and nicely maintained coats! They both look very healthy, and very well loved!

Overall, both of these pups are absolutely stunning, 11/10 dogs!

thank you for the compliments! a slight correction, in case anyone was curious for a confirmation — these two are both a niche breed called the American Alsatian.

it’s an easy mixup, since (as the name hints) the breed is originally derived from GSDs mixed with malamute; it was even called the “american shepalute” originally! since then, dogs from other breeds such as irish wolfhound, english mastiff, and akita have been bred into the lines as well

physically these dogs are larger than german shepherds (the smaller, full grown adult is ~95lb and the puppy is >100 and still growing) and are broader in build with smaller ears and wider muzzles. they’re bred for good health first and foremost, and then for a companion dog temperament — they generally much less energy than a shepherd and are velcro to their people, though standoff-ish to non-family

anyway, i know entirely too much about these dogs so i wanted to take the opportunity to share some of it ^^;

This bouncy little guy is an Australian Shepherd! Possibly one of the most big standard looking Aussies I’ve seen in ages, which honestly, is pretty refreshing! As much as I love blue and red merles, I don’t see a standard tri as often anymore. I’ve actually seen more diluted red merels than tris lately, which is a bit wild!

This beautiful boy looks to have a very well maintained coat, and with the way he’s prancing, probably pretty he good joint health!

Overall, absolutely gorgeous dog!

Even with Ollie's help, I'm still avoidant of crowds during the holiday season, so Ollie ends up getting a lot of time off around this time of year.

This dog is a Standard Poodle, and a very handsome one at that!

His coat looks very well maintained, and he’s groomed in a fairly standard poodle cut- though I can’t remember the specific name of the style he’s in, I’d assume either Puppy or Sporting style. Being that us is a working dog, that absolutely suits him!

Overall, beautiful dog! I’m glad he’s working, and that he’s an asset to his handler! He’s a very handsome fella, 10/10 pup!

When you ask your dog for something and they put their own flair on it, so you just roll with it.

I asked Forte to find the ball under the bucket and bring it (the ball) to me. He decided to put the ball in the bucket and bring them to me like that. So I just went with it and when the ball popped out had him put it back in the bucket.

This was silly tricks for fun time to help him learn to focus around the honking piggy toy, which makes his brain fall out. This made me laugh so hard. He's trying so hard because he's trying his very best but made it more complicated than the original assignment.

Y'all I love him so freaking much. He's such a try hard (affectionate).

I’m going to assume that this pup is a Belgian Malinois based on the patterning around his face and also is laser focus on his training. I know German Shepherds can be just as zeroed in, but I don’t see a lot of GSDs with that particular patterning- though that might just be where I live.

This is very clearly a well maintained and loved dog, with a clear and strong foundation for training, and a powerful bond with his handler- who I presume to be his owner.

I love seeing working dogs get the training they need- so often when I see Mals, they aren’t being offered that sort of enrichment, so I love seeing them train.

Overall, beautiful dog! Very cute very handsome, 10/10 puppy!

Reblogging to correct my earlier guess- I forgot that Belgian Tervuren is a breed, and have since been reminded by some truly adorable art I saw on my feed. This pup is a Tervuren, not a Malinois!

You are correct, he is a Belgian Tervuren! He's from working lines, hence less floof than most Tervs and a closer resemblance to Mals.

I appreciate the compliments as I, the handler in the clip, am also the owner and I very much invest in our relationship. We do lots of training and play for both silly fun times and real world scenarios. He is truly an exceptional dog and I do my best to honor him through a blend of work, play, and training in a way that mixes those things together.

The puppy in this photo is most likely a Shetland sheepdog! It looks young- likely somewhere between four and six months old, but it’s already got such a curious little face!

Shelties are wonderful dogs, with loving personalities and a keen minds. If I weren’t able to get an Australian shepherd or a border collie, I’d absolutely go for a sheltie- they’re one of my favorite herding breeds.

Overall, this puppy looks very healthy! Its weight seems to be appropriate for its age, and its coat, while still mostly puppy fur, looks well maintained! Very handsome little puppy!

The wuppydog in this photo is a German Shepherd Dog! His earset is exceptionally sweet, and while I definitely think he should be wearing a jacket in the snow, maybe also some booties, he is very clearly a healthy and well loved pup!

To touch on the statement about this pup needing a coat and some booties- I’m a firm believer that all dogs that aren’t built specifically for cold weather climates or snow should be dressed appropriately for the winter, and even then, I believe that all dogs should be wearing shoes if they’re able to when it gets cold enough for snow, especially if you live somewhere that they actually salt the sidewalks. Snow dogs in snowy climates that don’t have to deal with salt are exempt from this, but there’s no harm in shoes anyway. The drastic cold on a normal paw pad can already cause dry skin, but when you add in the salt, it can get stuck between paw pads, and you really don’t want your pup licking it cause it’s super not edible salt.

As for sweaters- dogs who’s coats aren’t optimized for snow are at high risk of being to cold. Dogs like huskies, Malamutes, Bernese Mountain dogs, and many other double coated dogs are built to withstand the cold, but other dogs, despite being double coated and long haired, are not optimized in the same way. Sweaters and jackets benefit shorter haired dogs the most, but long haired ones can still get cold. This GSD appears to have a short coat, and therefore should be in a jacket.

Now! This is NOT a dig at this dog’s handler, and all of this is my opinion. While German Shepherds are built to withstand cold temperatures, they are at risk of developing things like Hypothermia at temperatures of 20°F and colder. Huskies, however, can handle temperatures as low as -50°F (though -50°F and lower for long periods of time can be dangerous.)

All this to say be aware of what temperatures your dogs can handle!

Anyhow!!!

As far as I can tell from the photo, his fur is very well maintained with no blown out coat or impacted shedding.

Overall a very sweet and cute little guy! 10/10 GSD!
