Summary: After seven weeks apart, you reunite with Soonyoung at his military completion ceremony, struggling to hold back tears as pride and love overwhelm you. When he finally finds you in the crowd, your emotional reunion reminds you both that no distance could ever dim what you share.

Seven weeks.
Forty-nine days.
That’s how long it had been since you’d seen his smile — that same smile that could light up your entire world, the one you’d fallen in love with years ago.
You’d never realized how long seven weeks could truly feel until you spent them without him. No nightly calls. No random “I miss you” texts. No sound of his laugh echoing through your apartment when he came over and pretended to cook but ended up making a mess instead. Just silence — and the ache of waiting.
But you never told him that.
You never told him how hard it was.
Because the last thing you wanted was for him to worry.
He had enough on his plate — leaving group activities for his military services, leaving his members, the pressure, the leadership role he’d taken as platoon leader. You didn’t want to be another thing on his list of worries. So every time he wrote you a letter asking how you were doing, you’d write back with cheerful updates, jokes, and little doodles of tigers and hearts, pretending everything was fine.
You’d tuck away your tears late at night, whispering to the empty air:
“I’m fine, Hoshi. You just focus on doing well, okay?”
⸻
The day of his completion ceremony came faster than you expected.
You stood beside his sister, nervously fiddling with the hem of your coat, the cool breeze brushing against your face. His parents were just ahead, clutching their phones and cameras tightly. Latte — his fluffy dog — was in his sister’s arms, wagging her tail excitedly as if she knew exactly what was happening.
You tried to stay calm, but your chest felt heavy.
When the soldiers began to march in, your eyes scanned the rows of faces, searching desperately for the one you’d missed more than anything.
And then you saw him.
Uniform crisp, posture straight, expression serious — but your heart recognized him instantly. Even if you hadn’t seen him in years, you would’ve found him in a heartbeat.
Your Soonyoung.
Platoon leader Hoshi.
He looked so different and yet exactly the same. Stronger. Sharper. But the moment his eyes flicked to the crowd and found yours, his whole demeanor softened just slightly. It was quick — just a second — but you caught it.
The tiny smile that dared to break through the sternness.
The way his eyes lingered just a moment longer than they should have.
Your throat tightened. Tears stung your eyes, but you blinked them back.
“Don’t cry yet,” his sister whispered, gently nudging your arm. “If you cry, he’ll cry too. You know how he is.”
You pressed your lips together, nodding quickly. “I’m trying not to,” you said in a shaky whisper. “It’s just—seeing him like this…”
“I know,” she said softly. “He missed you so much, you know?” she continued softly, smiling as she watched him proudly. “He wouldn’t stop talking about you in his letters to Mom. Said he dreamed of you every night.”
That made it even harder to hold it in.
Your eyes never left him throughout the ceremony. Every command, every salute, every step he took — you watched him with so much pride it almost hurt. You’d known Soonyoung since before the fame, before the uniform, before everything. And now, seeing him like this — grown, proud, standing tall in front of everyone — made your heart swell.
⸻
When the ceremony ended, families rushed forward. You hung back a little, letting his parents go first.
His mom was crying. His dad was beaming, patting Soonyoung’s shoulder proudly. His sister joined soon after, bringing Latte, who barked and jumped at his feet while Soonyoung crouched down to rub her head, his grin finally breaking free.
You watched from a few meters away, hands clutching the strap of your bag tightly. You didn’t want to interrupt that moment — he deserved it. But your eyes burned, your lips trembling as you tried not to cry again.
You’d missed him so much. So, so much.
When he finally stood up and looked around, his eyes landed on you.
Your breath caught.
He smiled — that same smile that could make every storm in you quiet down — and began walking toward you. You immediately turned around, covering your face with your hands. You heard him laugh softly behind you.
Then, a poke to your side.
“Excuse me,” he said teasingly, voice deeper, a little husky from training. “Are you here for someone?”
Your voice came out muffled, trembling with both laughter and tears.
“My boyfriend… I’m here for my boyfriend. You should help me find him if you can.”
He chuckled, the sound wrapping around you like warmth after a long winter.
“Ah, that’s too bad. I was really hoping you were here for me.”
You felt his hand rest gently on your waist as he stepped closer.
“Y/N,” he whispered, soft but firm. “Please… don’t cry, okay? If you start, I’ll start too.”
You shook your head, hands still hiding your face. “You don’t understand,” you managed to whisper. “If I look at you right now, I’ll fall apart.”
He laughed under his breath — but it was tender, like he understood every unspoken word between you.
“Then let’s fall apart together,” he said quietly, spinning you around gently until you were facing him.
Your hands were still over your face, your shoulders trembling. He leaned down slightly, his forehead almost touching yours.
“Yah,” he said softly. “Look at me. I missed you so much.”
You shook your head again, biting your lip, until he pressed a soft kiss on top of your head — the kind of kiss that felt like home.
And then, slowly, he reached up and pulled your hands away.
The second your eyes met his, the tears you’d been holding back fell freely. Your lips trembled as you tried to smile, but your face crumpled instead.
He didn’t even hesitate. He wiped your tears with his thumbs, whispering softly,
“Ah, look at you… you’re still beautiful even when you cry.”
You let out a small laugh through your tears. “Don’t say that,” you sniffled. “You’re gonna make me cry more.”
He smiled, eyes glistening as well. Then, leaning forward, he kissed the trails of your tears — first your left cheek, then your right — and finally, your lips.
The kiss was soft, desperate, filled with everything you both couldn’t say over the past seven weeks. Every ache, every longing, every night spent wishing for this moment — it was all there.
When he pulled back, his voice cracked just slightly.
“I missed you so much, Y/N. Every single day.”
You let out a watery laugh, cupping his face gently as your thumbs brushed under his eyes — tears threatening to spill from his too.
You tried to smile through the tears, your hands cupping his face now. His skin was slightly tanner, his jawline sharper, but he was still your Soonyoung. Still the man who laughed too hard, who loved too deeply.
He blinked rapidly, trying to stop his tears from falling, but one escaped anyway. You brushed it away with your thumb, whispering, "Hey... you're not allowed to cry either. You're gonna ruin that perfect soldier image you've got going.""
He laughed quietly, sniffling. "You started it. But I’d ruin it for you any day."
You both laughed - watery, shaky laughs - but they felt so real, so alive.
“I missed you too you know,” you whispered. “So so much, I just didn’t wanna worry you by telling you. You already had so much to handle.”
He shook his head, pressing his forehead against yours.
“You always do that,” he murmured. “You always try to protect me when I should be the one protecting you.”
You smiled softly, brushing your fingers along his jaw. “You were protecting something bigger this time,” you whispered. “And I’m so proud of you, Soonyoung.”
He smiled — a real, soft, almost shy smile. Then he pulled you into his arms, wrapping you tightly against his chest.
You could feel his heart pounding — strong and steady.
You buried your face into his uniform, breathing in the scent of soap and faint sweat, feeling every ounce of the love you’d missed so much.
He rubbed your back slowly, whispering,
“You waited for me.”
You nodded, clutching the back of his jacket.
“Always,” you whispered. “I always will.”
He chuckled softly, kissing your temple again.
“You’re not getting rid of me that easily,” he said with a teasing tone.
You pulled back, eyes still watery but smiling now. “Good,” you said softly. “Because I’m never letting go.”
He grinned, brushing a strand of hair from your face, then pressed one last kiss to your lips — longer this time, full of warmth and promise.
And when you finally broke apart, he held your hand tightly, leading you back toward his family with a proud, soft smile — as if every battle, every lonely night, every ache had been worth it just to stand here with you again.
