My Best Friend’s Uncle | Bruno Madrigal x Fem!reader Part 1?
A/N: I know I haven’t posted any stories in forever. I have had a ton of writer’s block. Zero motivation and zero inspiration. After watching Encanto I totally fell for Bruno. I thought he was so cute and adorable. So I sparked up some inspiration to write this.
You had to get up early to get ready for your best friend’s wedding. You quickly got dressed and grabbed your bridesmaid dress. You then quickly made it out of your house and ran to the Casa de Madrigal. Casita let you in. Once you entered you saw all of the Madrigals frantically making the preparations. Luisa was helping with any heavy lifting. Isabella was in charge of the flower arrangements. Pepa and Felix were sitting on the stairs. Pepa was rubbing her temples trying to calm herself down while Felix was consoling her. “My daughter is getting married. Just the other day she was receiving her gift and now she’s getting married.” She continued to mutter to herself. Felix turned away and looked up at you and gave a friendly smile. “Oye Y/N. Go on and head upstairs. Dolores is in her room waiting for you.” He stated.
You nodded and ran past them up the stairs. You reached Dolores’ room and knocked. The door opened a crack. You saw Dolores peaking out to see who it was. As soon as she recognized you she opened the door all the way to let you in. Once inside she closed the door and gave you a huge hug. “Dios mio, I’m so glad you’re here. I feel like everyone is freaking out and it is freaking me out. Mama is inconsolable if you noticed and everyone else is running around trying to prepare the house.”
“Nena, its going to be fine. Let’s focus on you.” You stated. Dolores already had her dress on and a robe over it. She wanted to wear her mother’s dress which made Pepa so happy. You watched her put her hair up the way she prefers to have it. You then grabbed her white headpiece she was going to wear. It looked like a bow but attached to it is her veil. You adjusted it to make sure it was even. Then you began to do her makeup. You opted to do a simple look on her that helped enhance her natural beauty.
Dolores looked in the mirror when you finished. “I look so different.” She said which freaked you out. “Si no te gusta dímelo y puedo cambiarlo.” You responded. She waved you off. “No I love it. Its not that I look different. I feel different. I’m getting married to Mariano. I just can’t believe it.” You smiled and gave her a hug.
“Don’t worry about me right now though. You need to go get dressed.” Dolores stated handing you your dress. She then began to shoo you out of her room. You looked over to the first floor and spotted Mirabel playing mediator. She wanted to make sure everyone was calm, relaxed, and not overdoing themselves.
You felt the tile under your foot nudging you to the direction of the bathroom. “Okay casita ya voy.” You walked in and locked the door behind you so you can change. Your bridesmaid dress was a solid red, Dolores’ favorite color. You walked out with your old outfit in hand. When a figure bumped into you. “Oh I’m sorry.” You apologized.
The cute man that bumped into you had curly dark hair that stopped right around his neck and dark eyes. He was wearing a green ruana. He looked at you wide eyed as if he almost knew you. “Bye” he stated and walked past you. You were confused and were about to say something to him but casita nudged you the other direction to Dolores’ room.
You knocked on her door and she let you in. “Aww the dress looks so cute on you.” She smiled. “Thank you.” You replied. She noticed the expression you had on your face. “That was my tío Bruno that you ran into. He doesn’t talk much. Well he does sometimes but not to new people.” She said nonchalantly as she was putting on her earrings.
You sat next to her in silence as you put your eyeliner on. You couldn’t believe that was Bruno. Camilo always said that man was like 7 feet tall with rats all on his back. From how he described Bruno you were intimidated but after actually meeting him you got the impression that he was more scared of you then you him.
You put on your red lipstick that matched the dress and then some mascara. You kept thinking about Bruno. You never got the chance to meet him. It was just last year that he resurfaced after being gone for ten years. Although you were curious to meet him you weren’t visiting the casa Madrigal that often this past year because Dolores was always out on dates with Mariano. Sure you could’ve gotten to know the other magical Madrigals but they all intimidated you. Dolores seemed to be the only Madrigal that didn’t intimidate you. You did like Mirabel from the little bit that you spoke to her here and there. She had a good heart and she was pretty different from the rest.
After finishing your makeup you put on your earrings. You couldn’t get Bruno out of your head. Wait. Do I have a crush on my best friend’s tío Bruno? The thought alone made you think you were going crazy. The man was a little over twice your age. You couldn’t deny he was really attractive though. Stop that!
“Y/N, are you okay?” Dolores asked breaking the silence. You turned to her with wide eyes. “Huh? Why wouldn’t I be okay? What makes you think I’m not okay? I’m okay, you’re not okay.” You stammered out. Dolores looked at you surprised. “Sorry I was just asking. You were pretty quiet.”
You shook your head. “I’m sorry. I was just thinking.” You apologized. “About what?” She asked squinting her eyes. It felt like she was onto you. “Um your…tía Julieta’s arepas. Yeah.” You lied nervously. You knew she could tell you were lying. Your heart was beating rapidly. She knew that you knew that she knew you were lying. You thought she was going to say something about it but she didn’t. For that you were grateful.
“I’m uh…gonna go check on how your family is doing. Let me know if you need anything.” You broke the silence once again and got up. You walked out and went downstairs. “Ah Y/N. Its so good to see you. I didn’t see you come in.” Abuela said and gave you a friendly hug. You smiled “Its good to see you too. Everyone was everywhere by the time I came in so I just went upstairs to help Dolores get ready.” You replied.
“Would you like some café?” She asked you. You shook your head. “No thank you. I was actually wondering if there was anything I could do to help?” You asked. She thought for a bit. “Can you please check on my Brunito? I haven’t seen him this morning and I would like to make sure he is okay. He might be in his tower.” She replied.
You gulped at the thought of going to look for him but you couldn’t back down now. You did offer to help. You then nodded. She then handed you a small plate of Julieta’s arepas. “Can you take these to him with this tea?” She then handed you a mug filled with tea. “Thank you mijita. When you find him. Bring him down so he can help with the preparations outside.” You nodded and went upstairs towards his tower. The hallway was dark except the door. It had a faint glow. He didn’t seem to use his gift that much but it seemed like he was using it now.
You walked up to the door and knocked. There was no response. You slowly opened the door and walked in. You saw a large opening. You then saw a huge set of stairs that you were beginning to dread having to go up. You took a deep breath and began to walk up the steps with the plate and mug. You were so tired by the time you made it to the top. When you were on the top the stairs were separated from the second floor. “Uhh, casita? A little help please?” The stairs then began to move closer to the second floor. “Thank you.” You walked off and looked around. It was incredibly quiet and dark. This made you very nervous. You then saw a faint glow of green at the end of the hall. You followed it and peaked into the room. You saw sand swirling around Bruno that created a bright emerald green dome around him. You squinted trying to see what he was looking at.
It looked like he was seeing himself with a woman in a wedding dress. You assumed he was looking in to see how the wedding tonight will turn out but you realized the woman looked nothing like Dolores and Bruno was a little too close to her for it to be his niece. You then saw the woman kissing Bruno in the vision. Oh this must be a vision about him getting married. You were curious to see who the woman was. Then they separated and you saw them posing together for what appears to be a picture. You finally got a clear view of her face and it shocked you. The woman was you. You were supposed to marry Bruno. You had leaned in too much and it caused the door to open up all the way. The sand dropped around Bruno and he stared at you as he held an emerald slab. He looked at you then the slab. He threw it at the wall causing it to break.
“How long were you standing there?” He asked. “Umm n-not long. A-Abuela told me to come get you. Arepas!” You shouted holding up the plate and tea. He walked up to you. You could tell he didn’t believe you but he took the plate and mug. He took a moment to observe your face. Your heart was beating a mile a minute. “Thank you.” He stated. “Um…Abuela wanted you to come outside to help with the preparations.” He started to munch on an arepa. He then grabbed your hand and pulled you outside of his vision cave. In the hallway he stopped by a door you hadn’t noticed before. “Wait out here while I go change.” He went inside his bedroom and shut the door.
Now you stood in the hallway alone with your thoughts. You couldn’t believe what you saw. You were outside the bedroom of your future husband. It didn’t make sense though. He was twice your age. How would people react to that? How would Dolores react to that? You were going to marry your best friend’s uncle. Not to mention that Abuela might just faint hearing about this. Moments later Bruno stepped out. He was wearing a dark green button up shirt and black slacks. He looked very handsome in this slightly formal outfit. “You look nice.” You stated softly.
He blushed slightly. “Thank you. Um…so do you.” He returned the compliment. You smiled a bit and blushed. He cleared his throat than began to exit towards the stairs. You followed behind him. “You walk surprisingly fast.” You stated losing your breath a bit as you tried to catch up to him. He remained quiet the whole way down the stairs. “I guess Dolores was right about you not talking much.” You said. He stopped and looked at you. You stopped in your tracks and stared at him. “What?” He shook his head. “Nothing.” He continued his descent. We were almost at the bottom. “These shoes are really uncomfortable I can’t believe Dolores th- ah!” Your heal broke off from the shoe causing you to slip and tumble forward towards Bruno. Luckily you two were already towards the bottom so it wasn’t a terrible fall but you both hurt yourself. Bruno softened your landing though. “Ouch. I’m so sorry. Are you okay?” You asked him as you got off from on top of him.
“You’re very clumsy.” He stated as he sat up noticeably in pain. You furrowed your eyebrows. “It wasn’t my fault, the heal broke off.” You showed him your left shoe as proof. Bruno reached into his pocket to pull out an arepa. He then split it in half and handed you the half. “This should help with our pain.” He took a bite and got up like nothing happened. You took a bite of your half and instantly felt better. Bruno offered you his hand to help you up. When you took it he yanked you up causing you to get pulled close to him. You were now face to face with Bruno. You took a moment to observe his features. He had tired eyes with dark circles underneath. He had a slightly large nose but you thought it was cute and a perfect place to leave kisses. He also had a bit of a stubble on his face and smile lines.
He broke the eye contact between the two of you and turned towards the door without a word. “I saw your vision.” You stated. He took in a deep breath as he froze in place. He began to cross his fingers. He then pulled out a small little sack from his pocket. He opened it and took a pinch of salt out and threw it over his shoulder. He put it back. “No one was supposed to see that vision. Especially you.” He stated as he turned around to look at you. “I think I’m the only one other than you that should’ve seen it. It was my vision too. Not just yours.” He began to look around frantically then ran towards the door. You ran after him. As soon as he got to the door he began to knock on it. “Knock, knock, knock, knock, knock, knock on wood.” Then he knocked the top of his head. You looked at him a bit confused. “How accurate are your visions?” You ask him.
He turned to look at you. “They’re never wrong.” He stated. “So I really am supposed to marry you?” You asked him. He began to knock frantically on the door again. “Y-Yes. I’m just as surprised as you are. I’m too old for you. I don’t understand. I-”
“You’re not too old for me. We’re both adults.” You cut him off. “We can’t say anything to anyone at the moment.” He stated. You nodded. “I agree. We need to focus on Dolores’ wedding.” He crossed his fingers then opened the door. You saw Dolores standing there looking at you both wide eyed. “Dolores! I…how much did you hear?” You asked. You fumbled to get to the door. You stood next to Bruno.
