oh this is a life saver
So these are bothย โAw Fuck Iโm outta real foodโ meals BUT ALSO:ย if youโre learning how to cook, these are greatย โbaby stepsโ meals to learn how to cook basics into something enjoyable withoutย โwastingโ anything expensive.ย Though I maintain that even cooking screw-ups are valuable in terms of lessons learned.
Also theyโre great for when you get absorbed in something and you realize your blood sugar is dropping and you need to make something Quick.
Making basic storecupboard or fridge ingredients less basic and more nutritious.
This is wonderful.

An audio clip I made to go with this art โค๏ธ
I used to hate it when people said the trick was to just do it until โdo it scaredโ started going around, because thatโs truly it. Life didnโt start changing until I applied for jobs with one hand in front of my eyes and a trembling hand navigating my computer mouse. Or until I said everything on my mind (in moderation) with my fists clenched and my legs weak. Or until I refused to accept that Iโd โjustโ be shy forever while also kind of being nauseous at the idea of trying to be the opposite. Two things can coexist and thatโs exactly the point of believing that you can do anything.
living is just figuring out how to save your life over and over again Like over and over you wake up and realize you are dying and you either save your life or you donโt

I got art block what should I do
Take a day off and see if you feel like making art the next day. Or the day after that.
Still nothing? Then sit down and make a piece of crap art.
I mean, CRAP. Make it as bad as you possibly can. Screw everything up! Don't just break the rules: jump on them from a height and mock every one as you come down and stomp them into mush. Challenge yourself to be the worst you can possibly be.
...No, not like that! Worse!!
WORSE THAN THAT!
Good!... There you go.
...And at the end of it, guess what? You'll still have made art.
It may indeed be terrible art, of no damn use to any other being on the planet. But you will nonetheless have asserted your claim to the right to create art, even when the creative process isn't working particularly well.
And just keep on doing this until the juices start flowing properly again. Because, pretty much inevitably, they will.
Disclaimer: do I use this approach? Oh God, yes! You should see my bad pages. (Or on second thought, no you shouldn't. I like the Hague a lot, but not that part of it.)
But sometimes the road to making good art (waving at @neil-gaiman) runs through the territory inhabited by making bad art... and sometimes willingly, shamelessly, hilariously bad art. The very act can be surprisingly cleansing.
Fear nothing. Make crap art, and let it set the stage for the good stuff. Then laugh at it, and keep on going.
Hope this helps!
the summer after the war
after the war, the house was silent, and ginny couldn't stand it
the first two weeks following the battle of hogwarts felt like a never-ending series of funerals, grief almost temporarily taken out of her and put on display, culminating with the hearts of others who loved and lost, who had feared the worst and now faced it
then the smaller wakes happened, of fred and collin and remus and tonks, private and quiet, and she is forced to address the knawing pain, the endlessness of grief
baby teddy and his grandmother come to stay at the burrow a week after the funeral of remus and tonks
everyone comes down to the living room to look at this boy with wispy blue hair - for the first time in forever they are not brought together by something sorrowful
harry loves him, ginny can tell
he spends all his time with teddy, spending all night with a cranky teddy when andromeda is feeling too tired
one night ginny wakes to hear teddy crying, which isn't abnormal, but it doesn't stop
she goes down and no one is there - and she feels uneasy
what should she do? wake up harry?
it was a hard day for him, she knows how exhausted the funerals and ministry appointments made harry, and that baby was looking around, and she realises that teddy is looking for his mother, for tonks, and she is suddenly by his crib
its a bit awkward to hold him, her hands are shaking and she's sure her grip is a little too tight
she puts him down again, gets a bottle from the kitchen and returns
sitting at the sofas, she feeds him the formula, which he drinks in tiny, persistent gulps
harry stumbles out of his room, he went down to check on teddy - that boy always calmed him after one of his nightmares (this one was particularly painful, and kept him so deep in sleep that his didn't hear the cries of his godson)
then he sees ginny with teddy, smiles at how nervous she looks as she holds the baby
for the first time since he returned to the burro he can look at her, really see her - her baggy pajamas, her copper hair, the scars exposed by her rolled up sleeves, the birthmark below her clavicle
only then does he notice that she's shaking, and the tears running down her face
he can't help it, he knows she needs space, but he sees her crumpled face, see's a girl missing her brother, missing her childhood
he sits next to her, and looks at him, not like how they've been since the war ended: quick glances and stilted conversations; now, she doesn't hide her pain
he puts his arm around her and she shifts to lean against him, their heads bent down to marvel at teddy, now sleeping contently
"i can't imagine how tonks and remus must have felt," she whispers. "i can't believe their gone"
fred's memory hangs over them, unspoken but felt all the same
she looks up at him, "you don't need to be alone in your suffering harry," she says, never breaking her gaze
harry looks away, wiping tears; presses a kiss to ginny's forehead
"i miss them too," he says
and that night a bridge is crossed, a wound is healed and two aching hearts start to beat as one again
addition:
when neville comes visit teddy he doesn't say a single word, just holds the baby intently, gazing at his tiny frame
another child of war, another orphan - in him he sees himself, memories of his tired grandmother, too old to play parents, trying to raise him; memories of loneliness, of disconnect from his identity
"we will do better for him," he says to harry as he's about to leave, complete determination in his eyes
The amount of time and trial and error that happens between when you realize you need to change and when you actually start digging your heels in and making those changes is often literal years which is so crazy cause we can know something for so long and refuse to let it sink in when we know it will deeply disrupt our lifestyles and comforts/crutches so it just prevails for so much longer than we could ever imagine even when we realized so long ago what was wrong we just back pedal when we are scared until something just cracks and we feel ready
Toxic romanticization of studying
In a word of introduction, my profile partly shows that studying and exploring is wonderful. But as a person involved in science*, I would like to show healthy and true patterns of this beautiful adventure in acquiring knowledge.
The inspiration for writing this post this time was not the phenomenon from Tumblr (although you can also observe it here), but from Pinterest. There you can come across cycles composed of quotes and photos whose aim is to motivate young girls to learn, succeed and get good grades. These images often also show examples of characters from movies, TV series or real life that you can aspire to be like. Overall, I have to agree that it really works! But I would like to draw attention to certain elements that need to be verified.
1. You shouldn't get up at 5am
First of all, the correct amount of sleep is one of the most important factors affecting the proper and effective functioning of our brain. During sleep, nerve cells regenerate, organize information acquired during the day and consolidate memory traces, which is directly related to learning. Lack of sleep increases impulsivity, deepens negative thinking and slows down the body's reaction time!
2. You can be a genius without good grades
Of course, good grades are a pleasant confirmation of our knowledge and praise for hard work. However, sometimes it is worth considering whether the structure of exams themselves, especially those with closed questions, affects the results. We often study for one specific exam, the knowledge of which may be veryโฆ limited and sometimes not useful, so it is worth prioritizing the topics that we study hard.
3. It's not cool to think you're better than others
We are different and have different priorities in life. It is also worth considering how many people escape from the rat race and start a slow, stress-free life. So we have to agree that judging people based on grades or responses under stress (sic!) is not cool.
The good thing about romanticizing studying
As I have already said, these types of collages are really motivating. So let's talk about what's great about them and what's worth highlighting and saving for later.
1. Knowledge is beautiful, but your outfit and surroundings can also be
We know that we should never judge a book by its cover, butโฆ the issue of social perception painfully confirms that we do and will continue to do so because this is how our brains work. And isn't it nice when someone looks at us and thinks this girl is so classy?
Moreover, a nice outfit that makes us feel good gives us a lot of self-confidence. There are also many studies confirming the positive impact on motivation and concentration of a neat and aesthetic workplace.
2. Not just cramming, but also discovering
Broadening your horizons is easier with passion and real commitment. And to achieve this, the topics must really interest us. Not everyone has yet found something that they are extremely passionate about in science, so that is why you have to dig deeper and discover different areas.
3. Don't be afraid to use your knowledge in practice
Schools and universities, unfortunately, have their own rules and they do not always allow you to show your 100% potential. Thus, share your knowledge with others externally, write essays, blog and social media. This form of activity also makes you learn things faster and easier. In addition, contacts with others will expand your knowledge.
Therefore, I must say that it is worth choosing your inspirations carefully. Nothing helps you enjoy studying better than a clear head and lack of prejudices.
*This post was inspired by my own experience with studying. If anyone is interested, I think I can share my mistakes that did not help me in an academic adventure :)
