i find it funny how the vehement denial of trans girl ralsei happening on reddit actually feeds directly into their arc. you, the player, exist in the game’s narrative as the force pushing the story along. ralsei is defying the will of their god (you) by even considering their gender identity. you are only making their inevitable transition more poignant the more you fight it!!

the fact that getting noelle “girl next door” holiday to use a very powerful, element-based spell that insta-kills enemies is what unlocks the weird route — a glitch that the game keeps trying to stop you from exploring, giving you plenty of chances to get the story “back on track.”

at the same time, the prophecy dictates that ralsei “prince of the dark” using a very powerful, element-based spell that could insta-kill the seven flowers is something that HAS to happen.

but the “raging inferno” prophesied by gerson never comes to pass. because ralsei accepts some part of what flowery is trying to show them, that they’re not completely bound by the prophecy and have room to consider their gender identity and what they want.

and while, in the normal route, noelle doesn’t have the external validation to act on… let’s say… the maladaptive ways she tries to escape her role, she still tells susie that she’s thought about what would happen if she “left.” and when susie tries to clarify that she means “running away,” her answer is a very noncommittal “i guess…”

the game/prophecy is trying to keep these two from questioning the gendered roles they’ve been assigned, but even with combined power of you + the game trying everything to keep the story on track, it doesn’t change anything.

even if noelle doesn’t have the chance to really examine the lack of power/autonomy in her canned, girl-next-door life the same way she does in the weird route, she still feels it. she is still trapped. even if you make ralsei take off the dress, they still put it on in the first place. they still want what they want. they don’t burn it all down. they still choose to heal flowery instead.

anyway i’m ready for noelle and ralsei to officially meet next chapter.

i have so many thoughts about the flowery ralsei dynamic that i do not know how to articulate yet because i love it so much but it's so funny that they have this almost mentor mentee relationship where the lessons are delivered primarily through rage baiting ralsei until they articulate every repressed feeling they've been hiding since chapter one. it's like gerson being exceedingly kind to susie cause he knew she needed encouragement but it's flowery realising ralsei needs a rage room and can't have one so he gives ralsei the best alternative instead
