Domini's 2024 Fiction Round-Up:
I Wrote You A (Lot Of) Stor(ies)!
(633,459 wordsā worth!)
Hi hi friends! I have written what experts might perhaps call a ātruly bonkersā amount of Rizzoli & Isles fanfiction for you (and me, obviously) over this calendar year, and I figured since I have relentlessly appeared in your feeds with words and words and words, why not do it again, but with all the words in one place? So! Here they are!
The titles of each story link to their respective tumblr posts, in case you liked any of them and feel so moved to recommend them On Here; the AO3 links are the links that say AO3!
The list is arranged by genre, AUs are broken out into their respective genres/by chronology for handy reference! (The smut is also classed emotional/hedonism, in case you donāt want to get any feelings wedged in there on accident.)
I included the AO3 descriptions if youāre new to my stories, or missed any of them and are intrigued (real talk: I myself forgot about a couple of these); itās a long post so the good stuffās under the cut!
Itās been a delight and a pleasure for me, a person who can apparently only coax dopamine from their squeezed-dry brain by tip-tapping about These Two Idiots into the notes app, ideally between 8-14 hours a day, and I hope it has been at least tolerable for you.
Thank you love you <3
(And a friendly reminder from one of your local fictioneers: writing into a vacuum does, ironically, blow; tell a writer you like their stories today!)
LONGFORM AU
LATE MEDIEVAL (England 1389)
ā¢The Austringer (AO3)
In 1389 Leicester, England, Lady Maura Isles meets a dashing, mysterious stranger and is drawn into a web of intrigue, danger, and forbidden romance to rival the most notorious of chivalric tales.
THE GILDED AGE (Boston/NYC 1885, London 1886): The Age of Wickedness (Series) (AO3)
ā¢No Rest for the Wicked (2023, but it completes the set)(AO3)
In 1880s Boston, a private detective with a mysterious past meets an idiosyncratic, strong-willed physician; they quickly become embroiled in a series of grotesque, disturbing murders that mirror horrors long thought vanquished.
ā¢The Ways of the Wicked (AO3)
Sequel to NO REST FOR THE WICKED, a Gilded Age AU. Jane and Maura continue their lives together in 1880s Boston, though their happiness is soon interrupted by a new string of brutal murders that draw together the police, the Church, Boston's notorious street gangs, and rapidly-shifting social attitudes, all casting a bright spotlight on the dark underbelly of a shining city.
ā¢Some Wicked Thing (AO3)
The third installment in The Age of Wickedness follows Maura and Jane through their life together in 1885 Boston. A young woman from a notable society family is committed to an asylum under mysterious circumstances, and our heroes must enter a dark, dangerous world in order to discover the truth.
ā¢Among the Weak and the Wicked (AO3)
Jane and Maura are obligated to travel to London after the death of Maura's father in order to participate in the complex and rigid mourning practices demanded of Mauraās social station. Constrained by etiquette to remain within the opulent-but-shrouded Hyde Park mansion ruled over by Maura's stern, proper grandmother Lady Margaret and joined in black-veiled isolation by the elegant, distant, recently-widowed Constanze Isles, the pair spend their days bored and frustrated by the strict and monotonous rules of mourning, until a series of bodies are discovered in the dim, silent manseāthe killer almost certainly moving just as silently among them.
A sequel to Hard Luck: A Hard-Boiled Noir
After the events a few months earlier, private detective Jane Rizzoli is holed up in her converted office over a shirt factory, laying low, until one day a phone call from her brother starts a chain of events that quickly spirals into a life-or-death situation for more than one person.
NOTE: this story progresses from the second ending of Hard Luck ("Fireworks")
COSMIC HORROR
⢠Mother-Thing (AO3)
A too-accurately translated invocation found at a crime scene leads to the arrival of an unexpected guest, and the unraveling of the fabric of the universe itself. Rating is for depictions of unnameable and consciousness-rending terror! Yay!
ā¢I Dare You (tumblr only)
Ancient sex witches! Maura eats a marshmallow!
SERIAL KILLERS (Contemporary Boston)
ā¢Folie Ć Deux (AO3) (ongoing, ad hoc)
Inspired by a tumblr post in which it was proposed that maura and jane are actually a hot, highly-accomplished serial murder team operating right under everyone's noses. it's very dark! and very creepy! if that is not your thing! don't worry about it!
SMUT (EMOTIONAL)
ā¢Diaphananthe hedoniana (Sex Pollen) (AO3)
Maura drags Jane to the annual Isles Foundation gala where theyāre both exposed to a mysterious chemical that does what mysterious chemicals do, but once it wears off, reality has to come back.
ā¢You Canāt Go Home Again (AO3)
Three years after Paris, Jane and Maura run into each other.
ā¢Beautiful, Brilliant, Talented (AO3)
Jane and Maura are at a bad place in their just-friends relationship and they each have very different ways of dealing with it.
SMUT (HEDONISM)
ā¢Good Girl (g!p jane) (AO3)
jane wakes up with an unexpected new friend: an oblique transtasia
ā¢Diaphananthe hedoniana, Chapters 1-3 only
ā¢Beautiful, Brilliant, Talented, Part 2 (tumblr only)
get you a manager who, when you carefully and apologetically mention late night shifts arenāt your favorite and if anyone ever wants to trade your closing shift for a day shift to let you know, immediately goes into the schedule and changes your one closing shift to the mid, no questions asked
whatever is going on with Keke Palmer and Sean Evans is the only heterosexual thing i will allow this month or ever and not only will i allow it i in fact both require and demand it
Crambinal Mimes: Exposition is back and wowwww yes this show has leaned into camp for a minute but it is a whole-ass backcountry excursion so far and I donāt know if thereās an indica potent enough
so it turns out my coworkerās old nyc roommate was mary mcdonnellās kid? anyway good thing iām old and tired now so my whole reaction to that detail was āoh, thatās cool, is she nice?ā (yes, the whole family is very nice)
Iām entirely areligious and have lots of Opinions on the role of organized religion in public life (mostly Why Is It There At All) but also I was raised Lutheran by my mom (until I very non-dramatically quit going at 15), who was the only Lutheran convert in her very large Catholic family (well, her dadās side was all German Lutherans, but her mom was in charge of church what with Grandpa being in charge of running the farm, so Mass it was)(mom went Lute as young adult, idk why) and my dad has aggressively negative feelings on the Church as he has significant religious trauma from his strict Catholic upbringing, largely due to my (paternal) Very Mean German Grandmother (who was obsessed with JPII, like, we never had to worry about birthday or xmas presents, we just got her Masses and homilies on cassette tape)(she also refused to come to my parentsā wedding unless it was a Catholic ceremony), anyway, the point is, being less than a generation removed, I still have itāand by āitā I mean āwhatever Catholicism does to your bloodlineāāso all this Pope Leo Encyclical stuff is really making my mitochondria dance, let me tell you; also my Very Mean German Grandmother would have hated it but she was such a devoted Catholic sheād have no choice but to go along and tbh this is one of those rare occasions in which Iām kind of all for the whole flock mentality thing; also the American cardinals clearly thought they were getting one of the shitass capitalist Lake Shore Drive Chicagoans but surprise, motherfucker, give your new Pope a fuckinā dirty water dog to kick off the Butlerian Jihad
tomorrow I am doing at least one ice cream, a butter pecan starting with a caramel cream base (literally; Iām starting by making whipped caramel cream except stopping pre-whip and using that to make the ice cream base)(itās just melted butter and melted sugar and heavy cream, so practically ice cream already, right?) and then adding crushed praline pecans and topping each pint with more caramel cream (whipped this time). this is the easy one!
the one Iām super-hype for is fancy butterfingers, which is a peanut butter base (made with peanut butter powder) with crushed toffee (butter and sugar and cream, melted and reconstituted in a different configuration) and a swirl of melted and combined peanut butter and dark chocolate, but iām still waiting on the chocolate because I did not feel like making chocolate (for which Iād need to purchase both cocoa butter and a new double boiler; also I hate making chocolate as it is very finicky).
currently: staring at a cup of granulated white sugar in a saucepot, willing it to at least begin the melting process (itās been nine minutes; this part is incredibly dull but never fear! it will become insanely terrifying and literal milliseconds will determine the difference between caramel success and needing to go ahead and purchase that new pot anyway about twelve minutes from now)
okay! so! obviously it Went Well until it Didnāt; the caramel seized at the dairy stage which i experience about 90% of the times i attempt confections which is why i prefer not to do them! but! the resultant thin brown fluid with horrible protruding tumors of misshapen sugar tasted amazing (since itās still sugar and butter and cream, and it was all heated right, no scorching or anything). so! i blended it all up in the blender! and now iām calling it dulce sbagliato devereaux, or: iāve always depended on the kindness of big daddy (since iām doing the base as a gelato now since it was already on the stove, and itās still a butter pecan, and i finally get to use my homemade bourbon vanilla extract after a year of waiting, and itās for my old queen coworker, and to be fair, i did break the candy)
