hell hath no fury
a name he hadn’t heard in a long time. a name he never wanted to hear again. a name he escaped so many months ago, and truly believed he would never be called.
but now, someone had just said it. someone had found him.
and as he heard that dreaded name ring through his ears, he had only one choice.
respond.
he turned, brushing dark locks threaded with gray after months of stress out of his face, golden eyes still bright as ever.
“where did you hear that name? why did you call me dominic?”
“….I mean?? That’s your name, isn’t it? Jeez, has it really been that long??” Sham lets out a soft chuckle. “As if I’d ever forget those glimmering golden eyes of yours.”
he shook his head, brows furrowing at the implication. “no, i left that name behind. i only came back here for…”
he paused for a moment, as if his mind had gone blank.
“well, now i’m not quite sure why i’m here. who are you…?” he asked quietly.
He blinks, smile dropping in a near instant. “I- You don’t… you don’t remember me? At all?” He swallows thickly. “H-How long has it been since we last saw each other? It couldn’t have been THAT long… It’s… It’s Shammy…”
the man stared at the other for a moment, blinking slowly. his mind had been deteriorating ever since he had allowed the king of demons to take hold of his body for a prolonged time.
“as far as i recall, it’s been… over a year.” he paused again, looking at the other’s face carefully, trying to recall his features.
“…shamrock?”
And the glimmer of hope returned, his eyes lighting up. “Holy shit, you do remember!!” He squeaks, immediately running to give Dominic a tight hug. “God, what happened to you…? All of a sudden you were just… gone…”
the hug was… nice. after months of isolation deep within the soul of the literal devil, affection was much needed.
“i just felt hopeless and… i let lucifer take over. he let me go free just the other day, but i feel different.” a hand ran through dark brown and gray hair, dropping back to his side. “i hope nothing too bad happened while i was gone.”
“Oddly enough, things have been… eerily quiet.” He sighed. “Wait, you feel different how? Also, side note, I like the salt n pepper look ya have going now.” He chuckled lightly.
he frowned, trying to recall the time he spent alone. “i just feel very weak. i mean, not physically, but it’s like if lucifer wanted to take over now, i wouldn’t have to give him permission.”
the comment on his hair earned a small laugh. “well, the blue faded out and then it just kind of ended up like this. i’m not any older, as far as i know. i think i’m still just 30, but i sure do look like a middle aged man.”
He snorted, smiling a little wider. “Oof, I know how that feels. Demon, remember? I may not age but boy do I feel old.” He grins. “I can help you out with your hair, if you want. I’m good with that.”
laughing gently again, he shook his head. “no, i think i’ll stick with it for a while. i think it makes me look distinguished.” taking a deep breath, and then exhaling as though it was the only thing he remembered how to do, he smiled. “so my name is dominic. i almost forgot.”
“Damn. Never thought I’d see the day you forgot your own name… I guess it has been over a year.” He sighed. “I’ve missed you, Dom, I really have.”
“it was just painful to be trapped, alone, for what felt like the longest time. i lost a lot of memories, frankly.” hearing the nickname his friends had called him caused a warmness to settle in his chest. “i’ve missed you too. i think i’ve missed everyone, but i’m not sure who that includes.”
