Actually, he’s not wrong. For Black women, a period is called such because it should LITERALLY appear to be a drop of blood, hence a PERIOD. Heavy blood flow is caused from hemorrhaging in the system, which isn’t natural. That’s why it hurts, as I would imagine. It really does involve diet.

I was just 14 years old when it happened. Like many young people, I drank alcohol for the first time and drank way too much. The world grew fuzzy and my memory from that night consists of just bits and pieces. What I do remember is spending hours in the bathroom puking my brains out and crying. I remember my friends luring me into the bedroom by holding a bucket under my face while I crawled. I was miserable and sick and scared. I remember when he came in and laid down next to me on the floor while I curled around the bucket. I remember him making me chew a piece of gum which made me feel even more nauseous. I remember him kiss me as I tried to hold back my vomit. I remember him taking my clothes off below the waist. I remember the rest but I’ll spare you the details. Up until recently, I only thought of this as sexual assault. I was a victim of sexual assault. I finally realized it was in fact rape. However, I’m not a victim, I’m a fucking survivor. I was a vulnerable, drunk 14 year old freshman in high school who was manipulated and taken advantage of by an 18 year old boy that knew better. This is my story. I didn’t tell people about it because I was ashamed. I never talked to police, I never told my family, only a few select friends know and they don’t even know all the details. My story went unreported, as do so many others. This shit is important. This shit is a problem.
