Animal Room is probably one of the most bizarre movies I’ve ever watched. It has a Wikipedia article that has no section about the plot. It has a young Neil Patrick Harris as an intelligent, introverted teenage drug addict, and a young Matthew Lillard as his hyper violent, vaguely fruity, Bible studying bully. The Misfits are in it. Half of the movie is the main character tripping on drugs. Maggots fall out of Matthew Lillard’s mouth. It has one of the sweetest male friendships I’ve ever seen in a movie. The only characters alive and conscious at the end are Matthew Lillard’s weird gross friends and his weird gross girlfriend. It’s based on A Clockwork Orange. Can’t believe it wasn’t a fever dream I had

animal room (1995) is simultaneously the best and worst movie ever made. its fantastic but its also horrendous. everyone should watch it but also no one should ever watch it. it has so much potential but never quite lives up to it. i need to study doug van housen under a microscope.
