Do you have any reading recs for the Fab Five? I just really think the dynamics between them all are neat and I’d like to know more.
i'd start off w either teen titans: year one, or, if you're of the camp that believes bruce being an emotionally stunted father is "unrealistic" and "ooc," well first of all. why are you following me & second you can read the old origin that it is a modernisation of instead – teen titans (1966) #53 (with bits borrowed from #14 as well).
theres also titans hunt which is a modernisation/callback to their first mission in teen titans (1966) tho i wouldnt recommend abnett's titans run proper in titans (2016) b/c it changes far too much of their canon.
after the origins... it gets a little bit tricky. i'd recommend titans (1999) quite highly b/c there's a strong focus on the fab five in particular, but also if you do choose to start there i would have you note a) that, that comes at the cost of dick's relationship to the other titans, and b) this is at a point in dick's life where everything is going to shit for him, and if you are not caught up w dick's story prior to this then i don't know if his characterisation here would make sense and land as hard for you.
tho the fab five are not as much of a focus in it, you could start w new teen titans instead, and that'd give you perspective on things like dick and kory's history, dick's leadership abilities when he. isn't stressed to the point of breaking, or why dick's betrayal of vic in titans (1999) was such a big deal (itd hurt more too). bc the thing about dicks character arc before the reboot is it did not take on a linear trajectory, he makes huge strides forward in leaving batmans shadow & becoming his own person and then also takes several steps back when he is drawn back to gotham over & over again (...which is the beauty of it for us tragedy enjoyers lmfao).
but then also... ntt is quite dated so it can be a slog of a read at times. its your call ig for which b/w those two to dive into first! if you do pick titans (1999) then please start w titans secret files (the prologue).
individual stories/arcs in chronological order of the timeline:
→ silver age: teen titans
→ teen titans lost annual
→ "the world's oldest teens" in the flash 80-page giant #2
→ "lost pages" in nightwing secret files
→ "last dance" in the flash 80-page giant #2
→ teen titans (1996) #12-16 (the fab five reunion post-ntt breakup)
→ nightwing (1996) annual #1
→ the flash (1987) #142, #159-160
individual stories/arcs where they bond more... one-on-one, than as a group (sorry about the dick bias, i can't help that i've read him more!):
→ dick & donna — p. much all of ntt; titans / young justice graduation day; dc special: the return of donna troy
→ dick and roy — detective comics #402; nightwing: old friends, new enemies (action comics #613-618 & #627-634); batman plus arsenal; teen titans/outsiders secret files (2003); outsiders (2003); nightwing (1996) #114, #124, #143; green arrow (2001) #49-50
→ dick & wally — the flash (1987) #81-#83; "taking wing" in nightwing secret files; the flash plus nightwing; nightwing (1996) #63, #73; the flash (1987) #210-211, #214-215, #228
→ roy and wally — the flash (1987) #245, #247
SORRY ABOUT THE LACK OF GARTH I GENUINELY DON'T KNOW. if anybody else has recs for he please feel free to add on 💀
titans (2008)... skip. theres fab five content but there are a number of terrible retcons here. & also why is roy still bothering w the titans here hes having a banger time on the jla at this point come on let him have his time in the spotlight 😤
i'd suggest leaving teen titans (1966) as a whole for last. b/c again, it's also quite dated and you probably won't enjoy it if you are not already invested in these characters first :)
